I had never lived in an apartment community until coming here almost 2.5 years ago. In that time I have literally fallen in love with Lakeside. The maintenance crew has always been capable and timely. The office staff has had a few turnovers yet continued to be consistently helpful. Adam, Amanda, Matt and Pam work hard to make this complex feel like "home". Lakeside residents are treated to a monthly event planned mostly by Amanda. She goes above and beyond in her efforts to make these occasions fun for all who attend. My 5 star rating covers people in the office and a lot of the wonderful neighbors. In my opinion, people are one of the most important elements in apartment living. Neighbors are, in general, wonderful folks from all ages and walks of life. The fringes of having a great clubhouse, with game room, small movie theater, a business center, a gym, a hot tub and a pool give almost everyone a chance to relax and unwind. The other amenities are pretty nice as well. There's a playground specifically for the children. There are tennis courts, a volleyball court, a basketball court and there's even a sandy beach with a small lake that gives opportunity to swim or lie in the sun, go boating or even do a little fishing! With all that I have listed there's still another... For those of us who have fur babies there's a well kept dog park. There are other complexes that are newer with granite kitchens and other amenities that are much more up-to-date but I doubt that any offer the beautiful views that are here at Lakeside. I've purchased a house and will be leaving in June but I'll not forget my stay here, nor will I ever leave the wonderful friends I've made. read more

This is a warning to anyone considering living at lakeside in Charlottesville. They will do anything to get you to submit an application. One of their tactics is to make you hurry up and apply before you see the apartment. They will lie to make you hear what you want to hear. My experience was terrible! I called them to inquire about a specific unit number listed as available on their website. I asked if it is a first level, with no stairs, and with a lake view. To which I got a "Yes". I confirmed multiple times, with my wife listening to the whole conversation while I had their representative on speaker. I put the application in, they charge me the $100. They waited until I showed up to check the unit, then they rum my credit. What did I see when I checked the unit? Glad you asked, its a unit that has a view of the weeds covering the lake, and has steps going up and down to it from the front and the back of the unit. Went back and let them know that this unit has nothing to do with what i was told and asked for my money back. I get the sorry we can't refund you, your credit check is running right now and there is no way to stop it and refund you. I kept asking them to check with "Corporate" letting them know that I was misled and rushed to apply before seeing the unit. They ignored me till I had to call them a couple of times request my money back. Then I get an email stating the same result: sorry we can't refund you. I then get compromise from them offering me a unit that really has no stairs, but more expensive for some reason with $50 off every month. Even after the discount, it was still a lot more expensive. Turns out, it was a unit that they didn't have much interest in, because of its high monthly rent. I am posting this to warn people of Lakeside's unethical tactics. Do not pay for an application until you see the unit. Do not believe what they tell you about unit features. They are liars. You have been warned. read more

This is a combination review because honestly we had a positive and negative experience. We lived here for a year. This review will be a long one ;) Leasing office: 2 stars Maintenance: 3-4 stars Before move in we were given false information in regards to how we could move to a different apartment if another one became available facing the lake before our move in date. Well, that was false. Read the fine print of the contract. The gal that signed us up is no longer there but still, read the fine print, don't go by what they tell you :) Our apartment was nice. We had issues though with house centipedes, which the former manager helped get someone out to spray and even had them test our apartment for moisture because it was like an infestation, seriously. We never did get them all the way gone even though the bug spray tech came to spray every time we called which was nice. There was a time however when he came into our apartment when we were not home and we hadn't called for spraying and we Were Not scheduled for spraying. If you live on a ground floor apartment, be prepared for people letting their dogs crap in the mulch and not picking up after them. Or leaving garbage, cigarettes, etc in the mulch as well. All the leasing office did was put up signs and ask if we knew who was leaving the cigarettes, etc. um, no! We don't sit by the window and wait for that stuff to happen ;) I get it that they can't do much but their is a grounds person. Walking around the complex people would even leave bags of dog crap underneath bushes, etc because they were too lazy to walk it to the dumpster or dog poo stations. The maintenance staff was nice. They were pretty quick with things at first but there were times where we would go a week after putting in a request and no one would come fix whatever issue it was that was broken. Our AC went out quite a few times :( the Windows "leak" because of the humidity so make sure to clean around the Windows otherwise..mold :( We did have a few nice neighbor's and the community is dog friendly which was nice, minus the owners that didn't pick up after their dogs. And some owners that let their dogs off leash :( but again, if you complain about it to the leasing office they won't (or can't) do anything. If you move out, make sure to do the walk through with them because you may get charged for stuff you didn't do, otherwise. Some of the management has changed since we moved so hopefully things have gotten better but wanted to leave a review to share our experience because it was not a "luxury style living" like they claimed :( read more

The hall light was never on in spite of my complaints, which is perhaps why the woman downstairs installed a battery operated motion detector light of her own on the bannister beside her door. Filthy place with barking dogs running loose. "Maintenance" workers always hiding out In the building adjacent to the forest leaning on their brooms and smoking. Loose dogs. Vans full of non-resident fishermen flock to the lake via the already overcrowded parking lot, leaving unsightly trash. Poor sound insulation. Lakeside has purported themselves as 'luxury' and "choice" apartment homes. In personal experience, they are neither. The appliances are ancient, the 'garden tubs' cracked and discolored. All cabinetry and counter tops are the lowest level barely fit for salvage. The "maintenance" barely exists to the point where even changing a bulb in the dark dirty breezeways and entries are dangerous. These are temporary apartments at best if you are new to the area, or someone who doesn't mind noise and filth. The number of dumpsters is completely inadequate, yet knowing that, they are never cleaned up in the surrounding area and trash is seen as 'close enough is good enough.' The "lake area' is laughable, dirty and fly filled because the goose droppings are rarely (if ever) policed. What they call a "Dog Park" is an old fence surrounding a mud pit (disgusting!)The worst part, in my personal opinion (and that of a former neighbor) is that if you complain or request assistance, the office staff views one as a 'troublemaker' and the LAST thing they want to hear is 'input' of any kind. Considering the cost, and the poor location, it would be preferable to stay in a 'dive' where at least one knows 'going in' to keep their expectations LOW! read more

I thought this place was nice until my 2nd weekend here and my upstairs neighbors decided to have a party. Imagine trying to sleep with 10 people stomping all over the floor, shouting and clinging beer bottles together. This has happened 5 other times in the the 7 months I've lived here. The tenants above me are naturally heavy footed and I mostly try to ignore their daily floor stomping, but when you have people drumming on the floor it becomes hard to tolerate. The maintenance staff is horrible, twice they've come to fix stuff and said there is nothing wrong. I told them when I first moved in that the dryer timer did not work. They said there was nothing wrong with it. I have to use a timer on my cell phone when doing laundry because the timer doesn't move (it's a real fire hazard if you ask me). They came to check out an issue with my refrigerator not cooling and they said it was fine. The next morning the ice pack I put in the night before was liquid still. Then they said they misread the maintenance request. They ordered a new refrigerator after coming a second time and said it would be in the following week. A week went by and no refrigerator and not even an update from the staff. Went down to talk to them and they said their sales contact had quit so they were having trouble getting it delivered or something. This place is a joke and overly priced. I was in the military and have lived in a lot of different apartment communities. This is one of the worst I've lived in and most expensive for what you get. read more

Our family lived at Lakeside for 3 years and absolutely loved it. It is by far the best apartments we have ever lived in. Our apartment was very nice and comfortable. Casey, the mgr, is great and the nicest person. Her staff at the front office is always helpful. The response time to fix things is incredible. By far the best thing is the atmosphere that Casey has set up there. The frequent community parties set up by Casey are great and fun (The last party was on the lake's beach with free grilled burgers, beer and hotdogs. Did I mention the live reggae band?) The nice little touches are great too: the car wash area, playground, tennis court, pool area, fitness gym, Movie Theater, Lake Beach area with BBQ grill, and even free firewood. Did I mention the parties?!?!? My kids loved fishing in the lake. The only reason we are no longer there is that we moved to our house. But we still miss Lakeside and the great community there.
