PB Fudge and Butter Crunch in a homemade waffle cone
    Molly H.

YUM. This ice cream is worth the line that seems to be constantly snaked around the building when the weather is nice! My family visited after kayaking in the lake for a few hours (rented the boats from the building next door!) and the ice cream was such a treat afterwards. I tried the Peanut Butter Fudge and Butter Crunch in a waffle cone. The cones are made in house and they smell AMAZING as you stand outside and wait! I loved the flavors and texture of the ice cream, they were fantastic. I've become somewhat of an ice cream snob and I think this is some of the best I've had in recent memory. It's seemingly a staple in the Deep Creek community for a reason! Worth a visit and worth the wait!!!

Came up with a bunch of friends and we all got some ice cream. Waffle cones are made in house so I had to go with it. Solid cone I had a scoop of the coffee and a maple walnut. 11.50 with tip Very fair size and crew that was working was very kind and able to manage us all well Bathroom is available. Lots of collegiate flags around and gives a cabin vibe. Homey place

Wow wow wow! The waffle cones are fresh. I came here 7 days straight. The waffles cones are amazing. The staff is amazing. Ice cream is phenomenal! So fricken good. The wait can be long, but I mean it's the best ice cream so you can't logically expect to not wait for it. I'd wait 5 hours for a scoop of this! MUST GO!!

Very good ice cream. I enjoyed having the mocha chip ice cream in a cup accompanied by a wooden spoon. Nice touch. They had about 20 flavors. My wife got caramel ice cream and she enjoyed it. Very good and friendly service. We would definitely go again.

The ice cream at lakeside creamery is amazing! Super creamy and flavorful! The cost of the ice cream is based on weight. It is conveniently located to access from both boat or car. There is a dock nearby but a lot of stairs to get there. The customer service here could be better. Not friendly at all and impatient if you do not know what you want immediately. Their menu is very expansive and a lot to look over.

First time visiting Lakeside creamery and it was very delightful after a long sunny day in Deep Creek. There was a long line outside when we arrived but it went very fast and probably only had to wait 10 or so minutes. The staff was very pleasant and efficient went taking our orders. I got the chocolate peanut butter (2 scoops) and it was terrific. Good size, waffle cone was delicious. Very cute spot and will be back soon.

Lots of sundae flavors, shakes, and typical ice cream fare. Friendly service too. The summer survivor sundae is $31 and includes 10 scoops of ice cream! Cool spot if you are in the mood for ice cream near Deep Creek!

This is an old school ice cream parlor. The creamery is aptly named as the flavors are all rich with milk fat and decadent. The youngest had Chocolate butter fudge which tasted more like crazy rich chocolate milk. The oldest had orange ice cream which she loved. It I would pass on. Brutal one flavor better done in a sherbet. I had a Coke float with vanilla ice cream and it was the perfect throwback dish. We stopped here within 15 min of arriving and it was the perfect start of our vacation.

I'm not going to say I was not curious about this place. We drove by here Labor Day and saw an insanely long line, so we decided to pass and visit the next day when they opened because, who doesn't love ice cream and want to support a small, local business? Minus (the biggest) 1-Star (possible) for Flavor - As you can see from the menu, there's nothing crazy, just vanilla and chocolate and some more vanilla and chocolate in mixed variation. No non-dairy offerings (one of my tots has a dairy intolerance). I get that they make their own ice cream, but even the basics or subpar basic. Minus 1-Star for the Customer Service - The only young lady that looked as though she were working did not seem happy to have such a large crowd when the store opened. At one point midway ordering, my 4-year old decided to change her mind on the flavor she wanted and I asked (as nicely as I could) if we could change the flavor; the employee tore the paper she was writing on and proceeded to angrily start all over hand-writing our order. It took her longer to write our order than scoop it. *This place doesn't go by scoop, but rather charges by weight- weird because I asked for tiny scoops for my girls and it was about the same size as everyone else's.

This is the go to ice cream spot in Deep Creek!! The selection is always wide range and so good. And the people working here are so nice and helpful with getting your selection. And to grab you Mr ice cream and head out to look over the lake is so relaxing!!!!

Craft beers, nice decor, good food, great staff, good for a group…read more About 12 of us wanted a meal all together in McHenry MD, and we all like craft beer and pizza, so the Mountain State Brewing Co. restaurant was an easy choice. (Jun 2026). It's a large brew pub with a cabin-like décor, out Sang Run Road just north of Deep Creek Lake. There's a little carved bear by the front door, and a kid-size huggable bear at the host stand. Photo ops! And fun for the kids! They seated us quickly and our server was quick in taking beer orders. They have plenty of soft drinks, and we got Lemonade and Apple Juice, Orange Fanta (a favorite), and a pitcher of Mountain State's own creamy MSBC Root Beer - made here! Beer-wise, there were 16 draft crafts plus a couple of old standards to choose from on a paper menu or by looking at their website or QR-code. Most were around 5% ABV. We had Pennsylvania's full-flavored grassy citrusy mildly-bitter Victory Summer Love golden ale. We raided MSBC's just-west-of-here West Virginia brewery of their creamy malty lightly-bitter Miner's Daughter oatmeal stout, and a lightly-bitter caramel Almost Heaven amber ale. New York's Hudson North brewed us some summery sweet Salted Watermelon cider. And we had some from home: Columbia MD's Black Flag Snozzberry Haze: a fruity piney hazy IPA, standing up at 7% ABV. Baltimore's Mobtown Fever Dream, a creamy flavorful somewhat fruity IPA, punching at 7.4% ABV. And Baltimore's Wico Street Yeah Brah, a strongly-bitter double IPA, clobbering us with an 8.5% ABV! A wonderful fermented tour of the northeast! Get ready to say "yum" out loud... From their wide range of bar foods and appetizers, we had fresh crisp tortilla chips with their medium-spicy cream cheese and homemade-ranch baked Buffalo Chicken Dip, elevated with blue cheese on top and an add-on side of chipotle! They made their own fresh-Spinach & Artichoke Dip with fresh basil, roasted red peppers, and an extravagant blend of cream cheese, feta, mozzarella, asiago, parmesan, and cheddar jack. The giant soft crust Pretzels & homemade Beer Cheese were notably popular with the kids. Salads? Yep. Tasty Lemon Herb Chicken Salad, crisp and crunchy Caesar salad, house salad with requested black olives, and cole slaw. And sides of orange segments and raisin-like cranberries for the little ones. And on to the main feast :-). Simple fried chicken nuggets and off-the-menu Pepperoni Pizza to be sure the younger crowd was satisfied. The Boars Nest sandwich was overnight-tender pulled pork with tangy Carolina BBQ sauce and fresh crunchy cole slaw on a lightly-toasted brioche bun. The spicier "wilder" Wild Boar sandwich had that low-and-slow pulled-pork awakened with bright jalapeños and spicy Chipotle BBQ sauce, topped with provolone on that toasted yet pillowy brioche. The fresh Caprese sandwich had firm ripe Roma tomatoes, tender baby spinach, and fresh mozzarella with requested added chicken. It was all dressed with bright basil dressing, drizzled with tangy sweet balsamic glaze, on crisp and soft toasted Italian bread. A well-made classic caprese re-invented by MSBC as a bright crunchy sandwich! Everyone liked those classic crisp pepperoni pies. From their world-class pizza recipes, we had the Supreme: pepperoni, sausage, onions, green peppers, their cheese blend, and black olives, drizzled with fragrant fresh olive oil. And the vegetarian so-tasty-you-wouldn't-guess it-was-gluten-free Yard Sale pizza: marinated artichokes, prosciutto, mozzarella, with an olive oil & garlic base, sprinkled with fresh basil and a dash of freshly-cracked black pepper. Mountain State Brewing Co. gave us a memorable spread of great beers and delicious creative foods. You know we enjoyed leftovers the next day :-) Our terrific server Claire was ever-attentive, and between you and me, made it seem effortless to host our full table of hungry adults and kids. We'll be back, especially for their wide-ranging ever-changing draft list and those amazing pizzas!

We were able to sit out on the patio, have a great local brew and sample some absolutely great food, highlighted by some spectacular pizza. I've spent a bunch of time in the area in the other seasons but seeing it spring was new for me. So was lunch at Firewater. I enjoyed both. As you might think from the name, Firewater is all about the drinks. Not only do they look beautiful but they punch above their weight in a tourist mecca. My Baby Got Daq was so much better than one would imagine for a cocktail on tap. Served in a coupe, this traditional daiquiri was made with anjeo rum, which gave it a gorgeous brown color. The simple (traditional with a twist -- pineapple!) recipe (lime and sugar) allowed all the ingredients to sing and you would be hard-pressed to tell that it came from a tap, rather than a bartender's careful hand. Drink in hand, the food menu acquitted itself just as nicely. My large (Southern) party made short work of the deviled egg appetizer. Likewise, my brisket sandwich (on gluten-free bread and served with a side of grits) was filling, smoky (with a crunchy bark) and deeply-flavorful.My group took advantage of the nice weather and are outside, enjoying the lovely water views and pleasant service. With a population the size of a New England liberal arts college, odds are if you're patronizing Firewater you're not a local. That's fine. Tourist cities need tourist dollars. Spend yours here. While in Deep Creek, this will become a trusted lunch destination. I'm just surprised I 'discovered' it so late after multiple trips.

You do have multiple ice cream options in the McHenry and Deep Creek Lake area, but Bear Creek has a couple distinct advantages. First, it is open year around, something the ones lakeside are typically not. Second, it is not usually overrun with lines out the door as some of those lakeside ones are (and there is a time and place for those as the view overtop the lake is good fun as well). The selection of ice cream is more than ample and the prices don't break the bank like many tourist-centered locations can do. And over the course of at least five visits across multiple years, I have never experienced slow, grumpy, or impatient service. Any frustration here is likely to come from other patrons rather than those behind the counter. And fair enough, it is the first time visiting for the tourists who often make up the clientele. There can also be big intergenerational groups where getting all the orders organized in a timely manner can be a challenge. But honestly, hopefully you are on vacation as well so where do you really need to be? There are a few tables inside and out so take a load off if you need to.
