FAMILY FRIENDLY, FLEXIBLE, GOOD FUN BOAT I rented a pontoon boat from Lakeside weeks before I was going to need it. Along the way, I confused my pickup date to be one day later than my actual pickup. When Lakeside called on my actual delivery date, I wasn't able to pickup the boat and without hesitation delivered the boat the following day with no additional costs or hassles. The person dropping the boat was terrific. He helped us inspect the boat, showed us how to operate, and quickly sent us on our way making sure we don't have any questions. Pickup up and delivery were right on time so we weren't left waiting at the boat landing. The pontoon boat was clean and well maintained with a 90 HP Mercury engine that worked flawlessly every time. We were able to water ski without too much trouble...some wanted a faster boat. 90 HP was fine...move to a 150 HP for a quicker start or just opt for a ski boat. We wanted both living room style comfort and sport for this trip. My final invoice didn't have any surprise costs and the gas cost was surprisingly cheap for the three days of fun. While renting this pontoon boat wasn't cheap with a average daily cost of $465/day (90 HP motor, gas, ski's, prop insurance, fence lake drop off, and taxes), we had a fun everyday without the hassle of boat ownership. Friendly staff was there at our start time and we were permitted to aboard our pontoon about 5 minutes later. Seems like a well oiled machine. Boat did not have a Bluetooth hookup. I will rent from them again next year. read more

I have a cabin around an hour away from here . I was going to the cabin with friends in tow and needed a large pontoon . I can't tell you how happy I was with Lakeside , from my first interaction on the phone to the return pick up ! Very pleasant and friendly people to deal with !! The owner called me personally to work out the rates, as we needed it delivered quite a distance , who was fair and friendly. The gentleman who dropped of and picked up for us was very knowledgeable , curtious and on time . All in all we will ABSOLUTELY rent from them again and we have already spread the word to family that uses the cabin and local friends too ! BEWARE when renting from this place they like to charge additional for prop damage etc. when u return boat. And they charge a ridiculous amount for it also. Definitely not a way to run business. CHECK EVERYTHING OVER WELL before signing agreement and take photos of everything for documentation. Sorry we learned the hard way. read more

There is a reason that this place is lowly reviewed, and I would caution you to avoid. I stored my boat in the winter with Lakeside for the third, and last, year, and not once did I get it back where (1) they did the agreed upon work, (2) it was done in a timely matter, or (3) there was not some sort of oversight. Final straw? They failed to include the replacement battery that was discussed this year which I realized after picking up the boat. And the employee's response to me on the phone was to ask if I was going to have a heart attack, or wine about (yet another problem). Have never seen anything like it - either they have way too much business, or way too little education. Perhaps both. read more

Great service! I rented a bayliner speedboat with a 125 horse outboard and it was great! I can't believe how cheap it was too. I ran the boat all day (8 hours) with 5 adults and lots of gear on board and only used $60 in gas. The whole rental was about $305 with fuel and delivery. read more

I recently rented a pontoon boat and a speed boat from this place. Overall I was happy about the quality of the boats which ran well without a problem. On the other hand, I was very dissatisfied with the way in which they charged me for gas at the end of the rental period. I was told when I rented the speed boat I would have to pay $5.00/gallon for any gas if I did not bring back the tank full. I rented the speed boat for six days, each day I used the boat for fishing and water skiing and only had to put gas In the tank the last day. At the time I put gas in the tank the gas gauge was reading about 1/4 tank. I put $75 of gas in the tank to put the gauge on full the last day and only drove the boat for 10 min that day. Upon arrival for pick up the gas gauge was reading just under full. To my disappointment the man that came to pick up the boat and close out my account did not check the gas gauge with the boat in the water but took it out onto the trailer on an uneven surface where it was obvious the boat was leaning forward and then checked the gas gauge at which time it was reading 1/2 tank and I was charged an additional $60. I questioned this with both the delivery man and the manager and was told that you can only get an accurate reading on the gas gauge when the boat is out of the water on the trailer because the weight of the engine in the water. To me this is a total scam and makes absolutely no sense that the engineers of this boat did not calibrate the fuel gauge to give an accurate reading with the boat in the water sitting still with no one in the boat vs. putting the boat on an uneven trailer. How is it that I drove the boat for an entire 5 days water skiing and tubing and only used $75 of gas and then I drive for only 10 min and have used $60 of gas. Does this mean all boats need to be removed from the water to get an accurate reading on a gas gauge? In this case what is the point of the gas gauge? It seems to me that a better method of calculating gas would be to fill the boat and record the amount it takes and later apply those charges to the total bill. read more

I don't normally write reviews but after how we were treated I had to say something. I hope this remains the only post on this because they are truly that bad. We rented 2 boats for a wedding weekend on Thursday and Friday. The boats and keys were return to an employee of theirs on Friday night who was also driving the boats for us that day. They then called to ask about picking up the boats Saturday morning. I am not sure why they called to pick up something that was returned the previous evening but I said ,"yes go right ahead". So they decided to charge an extra day plus some pick up fee (mind you the boats were 100 yards from the launch point) when we didn't even have the ability to use the boats the final day as they had the keys. I would have been able to deal with this except for how we were treated when I called. The women who claimed to be the office manager was rude and interrupted every word I tried to say. All she kept claiming was that I would not get a refund nor did she wish to talk to me about it. I am in the sales and finance industry and I have to say that this is a great way to terminate client relations. I will be writing this review on every site I can throughout the northern Wisconsin area. Just got the most condescending lecture from the service guy! I have had my boat serviced by a local "guy" in the past but thought I would take it to a marina this fall for winterizing. No issue there. Just put my boat in the lake and the trim doesn't function. Called to ask if there was something I was missing (like a wire I hadn't hooked up) and got the most condescending lecture I have gotten since elementary school! I was informed of all the ways I messed up by not driving over from Minnesota in the spring, didn't know there was such a thing as "summerizing" the boat (never had to with the local "guy"). When I said that it would have been nice if someone had told me when I winterized it that I wouldn't be able to run it without summerizing, he actually said "so it's our fault that you're having trouble?" Wow. They must be too busy for customer service on the holiday weekend. Will try someone else in the fall. read more

Always have had nothing but positive experiences with Lakeside. Have used other area rentals and was not impressed by the laid back, careless attitude. That's why we like Lakeside, they respect us and our short time on holiday. Mr. Chas sounds like you had a bad time cause you didn't communicate your needs clearly or with the right people. Did you hire these guys outside of lakeside? Sounds like you did from your post. Just seems unwise to leave the best equipment and all around service because you are seeing things from one side. They don't give out infant life vest cause of liability. I didn't slander their name because of it, we bought a jacket instead. Just saying you get what you pay for. Sounds like you went under the table for drivers and that's what you got. Shrug it off, don't leave the best cause you made poor choices.
