We went in looking for some gear to help out with an impromptu December hike and were pleasantly surprised by the selection and layout in here. I picked out a pair of Kahtoola Exospike crampons for my city-slicker flat-soled boots (which worked great by the way!) and asked the gentleman behind the counter if he knew of any good hiking destinations nearby. He recommended Fallison Lake near Boulder Junction and it turned out to be one of the most beautiful hikes we've ever been on. read more

I was looking for a 2020 Seagrass Hobie Mirage Compass with an upgrade 180 pedal drive. Coontail was able to accommodate me with my request. When I got up to Arbor Vitae, the boat was all set up and ready to go and Jason went through it like a pro, giving me some pointers on getting further enjoyment out of my purchase. This is my 6 kayak, (probably my last...no more room in the garage or my wife may divorce me) but my first fishing kayak. I don't get up north all that often, but I have no reservations recommending this store appreciates Jason's communication and helpfulness during the process. read more

Stephen and the staff at Coontail did a good job of educating me on the fishing kayak that was right for me. They also helped me select accessories I needed, but didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. They also did a thorough walk through of all features and accessories. read more

I love Coontail. Tim is amazing, excellent customer service. I was able to put money down on the kayaks I want and can finish paying for them and pick up my boats after I close on my house. great place to either rent or purchase a paddle board, kayak or outtdoorsy clothing items. plenty of options for equipment. staff is great i rented a stand up board. the 20 something kid assisting me was very friendly and efficient with descriptions and expediting my paperwork. i was in and out in a short time and the kid loaded the board up for me too. prices seemed reasonable to me- 10 1/2 ft board and paddle for 3 days for $120. i will be back when im up north again read more

Was so excited to receive my Hobie Outback, since the delivery was delayed by about a month and a half. But, it wasn't, by any way, the fault of Coontail. Due to COVID, the plant was behind in sending all deliveries to the retailers. The staff at Coontail is extremely helpful, and knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make this shopping experience a pleasant one. Steve and Jason are AWESOME!! Unfortunately we had an issue with our new Hobie paddle drive kayak. The drive was making an unusual noisy clicking sound. Steve was very helpful and contacted Hobie and expedited a new replacement drive while we were still Upnorth on vacation. Shopped there many years at both stores Boulder Jct and Arber Vitae. Staff and knowledge are the best. The quality of merchandise is superb. This is one of the few places to get Patagonia clothes for men and women. Prices are fair and there are a few of end of the seasons sales. The AV store has the best selection of men's clothing. read more

The staff is super friendly but not overbearing. The prices are competitive, and the variety of styles in the clothing and accessories is very impressive for a small community. The recreational equipment selection is also excellent, and the questions I asked about certain sports were answered with a lot of additional information. read more

A great locally owned sporting goods store in both Arbor Vitae and Boulder Junction. Every time we have stopped in, we have found some great clothing and the staff are excellent. On our latest visit we found some great Smart Wool clothing. Well worth the trip! read more
