My husband and I love Indian food! We were referenced to Lal Qila by our taxi driver from the airport to our hotel. I'm glad we stopped by here. This was the last restaurant we had in Australia. Their food is pretty good. I feel it has an upscale feel but it was still good. My husband and I always start off with the same appetizer and drink from any Indian place which is papadum and a mango lassi. Every time! The papadum here wasn't anything special. The cracker could have used a little more flavor. The sauce that also comes with it was different from what we are use to. It had to grow on us. We are use to three sauces in which they have a kick to them. This sauce was different, it certainly didn't have any spice. It was more cool and like a creamy dressing like a ranch with something green (I say green because it was green in color) in it. The mango lassi was pretty good. No complaints here. I ordered the Butter Chicken and my husband ordered the Chicken Tikka Marsala. Both chicken dishes had a good flavor and were seasoned well. We had no complaints about our chicken. The rice was good and I loved that they added fried onions to the top. We also ordered an order of the Garlic Naan. The naan was very good. It was light and fluffy yet slightly thick. It had a nice chew and I like it this way. Some naan can be very thin and I don't like that. It had some butter and a nice amount of garlic. The naan was yummy! Overall, we enjoyed our food from Lal Qila and feel it was a good suggestion made by our taxi driver.

Quite nice Indian/Pakistani restaurant. Went on a Friday and the only option for lunch is buffet (which I found weird since they have a big sign board outside with the menu and prices). The restaurant was quite busy, so there was a good turnover of food, meaning most of it was hot and fresh. Reasonably good selection of food, and spice levels were not too extreme. Staff are friendly. Lines for the food can get quite long as there is only a small area for people to queue up.

The menu has a good variety, though the dishes felt more comforting than standout. A solid option if you're nearby, but not necessarily a place you'd go out of your way for. Food: The curries had good flavor and spice levels, but were a little oil-heavy for my preference. Portions were fair, and the dishes came out fairly quickly. Some items stood out more than others, but overall the food was enjoyable without being particularly memorable. Service: Service was efficient despite the busy crowd. Staff were polite and managed the small space well, though at peak hours it can feel a bit rushed because of how packed the restaurant gets. Ambience: The restaurant has a traditional Indian theme with old Maharaja portraits and classic décor elements throughout. The space is on the smaller side, and the décor can feel a bit overcrowded, making it slightly cramped during busy times. Still, it has a lively atmosphere that fits the tourist-heavy Circular Quay area.

Upscale Indian dining at an overpriced cost and questionable ingredient pairing. The best thing we…read moreate was the basmati rice so it's saying a lot. We constantly were just trying to get through each dish ordered, hoping it'd improve but the taste, quality, and texture - something was always off. The meat also smelled funny. Besan Fritters were rubber in texture with balsamic type cream sauce. Pork Curry spice was extreme and the water could not come fast enough. This had dish the most weird meat smell. The Beef Dosa tasted more like a sunscreen quesadilla. Poorly described but that was the meal in a nutshell for us. Great aesthetic and staff was semi attentive - although a reservation, there was no one at the host stand for 5min+ nor no one seated in the front section of the restaurant so awkwardly stood until the bartender finally gave in to ask if we needed help. Overall, wouldn't recommend. Especially in group settings where food would be shared since the menu incorporates a lot of different flavors/textures into one dish - not all would be inclined.
