My wife and I visited this restaurant for dinner. Earlier we had stopped by and got a take-away menu and learned that if you order on-line you get a 15% discount! We opted to eat in (using the outdoor seating) and ordered a couple of dishes. Our waitress warned us about how spicy "hot" really is...we're really enjoy spicy food but accepted her warning. My dish was hot...very hot...but tasty. My wife had gotten a mild dish and found it too mild. Regardless, both dishes were very tasty and in nice proportions. They have an extensive menu. Zinger Taj was one of my most frequented restaurants when I lived in Lavender Bay. It was right up the hill from my house, and I really like Indian food. So it's a match made in heaven. They're open for lunch and dinner. You should check out Groupon to see if they have any deals up. The staff is extremely friendly. There's a small bar with a limited selection of wines, beers and mixed drinks. If the weather is good, I prefer to sit out on the street as do most Sydneysiders. They make a good vindaloo and a flavorful tikka masala. My favorite thing is saag, but I don't see it on the menu anymore. After eating dinner or lunch, stroll down Lavender St or King George St and walk through the little parks along the water near the amusement park. read more

After going to Blu Ginger in Canberra, I was excited to go to the Sydney version at McMahons Point. Being a Tuesday night, the restaurant was reasonably quiet - perfect for a special dinner occasion. On arrival (we pre-booked to avoid disappointment), we were welcomed at the door and shown to our window table which included one of those comfy lounge style benches. Water with lemon quickly arrived as did the menus. The menu is similar if not the same as the other Blu Ginger restaurants. Entrée choices included the usual Onion Bhaji, Vegetable Samosas, Seekh or Barrah Kebabs, Chicken Tikka and Malai Chicken Tikka. There were too many choices - I love them all, so I ordered the Blu Ginger Platter (for 2) which came on a sizzling hotplate with selected pieces of chicken tikka (served with a mint sauce), tandoori prawns and fish cooked in banana leaf parcels ($22.90) Also I decide to order a serving of Nepalese Chicken Momo (which I was surprised to find on an Indian restaurants menu)! Add a good drop of Cape Schanck Pinot Grigio ($32.00) and you are off to a good start. Choices again for mains are varied and plentiful - Seafood, Chicken, Classic Indian Curries and vegetarian options. On this occasion, I chose Chicken Chettinad - boneless chicken pieces cooked with dry coconut, dry chillies, green chillies and peppercorn and finished in tamarind sauce ($16.90) and an old favourite of mine Sagwala Lamb - Punjabi's favourite dish made with puree of spinach, spices and cream ($16.90) Add Basmati Saffron rice ($3.00 per person) and Cheese Naan Bread / Cheese and Spinach Naan ($4.00 - $5.00) Verdict: The platter is the best way to go and saves you over $20 instead of ordering the same items separately. The Patra Ni Machhi ling fillets were the shining star or this platter. The two large tiger prawn were also very delicious and tenderly grilled in the Tandoor clay oven. The mains were amazing in flavour and in quantity. A very good serving of all dishes ensured that you wouldn't ask for more. In fact, I was so satisfied that I could not order desert as I originally planned and I ended up bring the Sagwala Lamb home for another meal. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. My YELP rating is 4/5 stars for food and service. I'll be back for sure - love this place. read more

My ex is Indian and thus I am a bit of an Indian food snob and this place is legit! The chicken jalfreezi was some of the best I have ever had, and the samosa dough tasted handmade rather than store bought, a small but important distinction in taste! The paratha was good as well, although I do wish they had a none filled option that offered me all the flaky yumminess i desire, but that said the paratha was very delicious. Nothing disappointed and the service was so friendly. The restaurant was not crowded but there was a steady stream of take out orders being picked up the entire time we were there, a good sign the locals also enjoy this place. read more

We sat at a table on the sidewalk halfway down Blues Point Road. Sipped some semillon, did some people-watching. The entrees arrived on a sizzling hotplate, and left with a standing ovation. (A Parsi stunner: parcels of ling wrapped in banana leaf and steamed with chili, coriander, and ginger; and the Barrah kebabs, baby lamb cutlets tandoor-broiled and yoghurt-dipped.) Another table's waiter came over to shoot the breeze. The wine disappeared and was replaced with Goat Curry and Sagwala Lamb. My nephew smeared his face with spinach sauce and threw his Lego into the bushes. Aloo Matar Tamata was delivered, and devoured. Mum slumped in her chair in a spice coma. I breathed heavily and undid a notch on my belt. No more, we begged. Please, have mercy. But our waitress was ruthless, and attacked with Panjim Fish. I tried to fight her off with a goat bone but was no match for her dazzling smile and nimble hands. An hour later I pushed my sister down the hill in the direction of the car and then rolled after her holding my nephew like a football. Best Indian I've had for six months. This place might be a tad pricey (compared to Indian Home diner), but good lord the food is amazing. Ordered takeaway on a Friday night. We got what we thought would feed 5; 4 mains dishes, vege biryani, rice, sides and 5 naan. Quick and friendly service, freebie papadums thrown in. the bill was $95. Which sounds a lot until you realise iwe stiffed ourselves for less than $20 a head and we were still eating leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. Check this place out. I'm on the hunt for a really good Indian restaurant - after 5 years living in London I've become a little addicted to good Indian food, and am really hoping to find some good Indian restaurants in Sydney. I'm giving this place 3 stars, as the food is reasonably good (personally I think the food could be hotter, the Vindaloo was not as spicy as it could be)... I think it is fair to say the quality of the food is on par with most other places on Blues Point Road. The staff seem friendly, and whilst I have always grabbed take away the restaurant itself seems a nice enough place to have a meal (if not the most memorable). I'm saving 4 and 5 star reviews of Indian food for when I find good Sydney Indian that I believe rates well compared to other places I have had it around the world. This was the chosen venue for a group Valentine's Day meal. We were a large group of ten at this smallish Indian restaurant. Despite being told we would be able to order off the menu, we ended up having to order off the set menu and paying more than we had planned on. Despite this, we were well accommodated and the food was amazing. This was our second visit to this restaurant, the first was a takeaway meal that was generously portioned and food that had you wanting every last bit. The food is amazing but it's extremely confusing wine service after they placed a purchased bottle of wine on the table unopened to find out that they expect you to do it yourself. This is the second time this has happened and to have to ask them to open a non-BYO bottle let alone serve it brings a level of poor service to their establishment. One of the best dining experience for Indian cuisine. This place is now called Zinger Taj. We ordered chicken Tikka and tandoori v Prawn for Entrée. Prawn Malabar and panjim fish curry and butter chicken for mains. Gulab jamun and mango Lassi for dessert. Tandoori prawn is to die for and definitely the winner for Entrée.. Chunky Prawn well marinated and cooked to perfection in Tandoor. For mains strongly suggest their Prawn Malabar. The Prawn is fresh and crunchy cooked in balanced curry gravy with perfect portion of coconut milk. For dessert both Gulab Jamun and Mango Lassi are equally good. Can't fail any of them. If you are ordering wine make sure you choose the Rothbury Cab Merlot. It complement the dishes very well. read more

We went for a family lunch to Zinger Taj today and it was great! As Indians, it's hard to find an authentic Indian restaurant in the Lower North Shore, but this place surprised us with their authentic and amazing food. This was a last minute booking for a group of 13 people. I was worried that we had left it too late but not only did the restaurant accommodate us, they provided excellent service as well. Their Madras lamb curry, tandoori chicken and onion bhajias were the highlights amongst a large selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes we ordered.
