How can you not like a bar that celebrates Christmas all year round? I discovered these guys on that Texas Bucket List back in 2024. I thought it was so cool beans and had to go check them out - and I did on Christmas Eve last year. Yeah, so last year Christmas Eve I was getting my last swim in. And spoke to a couple of buddies who I met there about what they were planning to do over Christmas. Well, both of them said not much and I told them I was gonna head over to this bar called Lala's that celebrates Christmas all year round. They also never heard of it, but we ended up meeting up there later that night. The place was packed, and everyone was dressed up in their Christmas sweaters, and there was a countdown clock to Christmas Day, which I thought was really cool. We hung out there until the clock past midnight and to a shot for Jesus's birthday. I don't think Jesus does shots on his birthday so we figured why not, it's a really big deal, and so we'll do a shot in his honor. Amen. My friends really liked the place and I enjoyed it. A few few months later, a friend of mine came in from out of town and I told her about this bar and she got excited and I took her there and she really enjoyed it too. It looks like it does have a few regulars, but the people there are generally very friendly and I always have a good time here. It can get very loud if there's a crowd, but there's also outdoor seating. read more

This was a very fun place to start the holidays with. There is outdoor seating for the overflow, which was nice as there is not much seating on the inside. I had the holiday cocoa, was nice and hot and very potent! Did not need a heater to stay warm. Sitting outside did have some draw backs. The temperatures, would have been nice to have heaters outside. The section we sat in, the ground sloped so you always felt you were sliding down the plastic bench seat. Inside is very very dark. It is decorated very cute. Was disappointed there was no Christmas music playing as it is a Christmas theme bar. The holiday drink prices are a bit expensive, but you are paying for the atmosphere. This is such a great spot to come year round, but especially in the holiday season. They have SO much signage about not parking in the strip mall, so if you still park there, that's on you. Lala's is always such a fun spot, and I recently discovered their great happy hour which includes $5 bloody marys M-F 4-7 pm. Pretty delicious! The seating outside was spacious and service was great. Love the decor and festive feel. Highly recommend! read more

Classic dive bar with strong drinks. There's a pool table and a Photo Booth. Theres excellent happy hour specials. The bartenders are not overly friendly but not rude either. They open on time but they didn't have their holiday drink specials available even though they were advertising them so that was highly disappointing. Plenty of seating outside in their decorated area but many people were smoking cigarettes so we didn't stay out there. Do not believe there is a lot of parking so best to uber if possible. read more

Love this bar but the only reason I give it 4 stars is because parking can be a nightmare and cost you a pretty penny. I parked in the lot in front of a barber shop and they booted mine and three other people's cars. Great bar, but just be sure to park across the street and save yourself from having to pay to take the boot off. Whoever runs the shop next door has too much time on his hands trying to rip off people buying $5 beers. read more

Before my dad passed away he always told me I needed to check out this Christmas theme bar that is year-round! About 2 weeks ago I was finally able to check this place out when they were ramping up for their mojo(Even more than they already have, like mixed drink specials) I personally didn't get any food but they had pizza next door. Is that the person I went with got and it smelled really good and a lot of people were getting it so I will have to check it out next time! I got one of their special cocktails. I cannot think of the name of the drink off the top of my head but it was not too expensive and the mix ratio was really good. Santa would come more than once a year if he knew about Lala's. What would be obnoxious and winky in L.A., this Christmas themed bar feels authentic and homey and unpretentious in Austin. With a big Santa throne, Christmas Story lamp, Christmas lights, hundreds of memorabilia (a still of Clark Griswald from Christmas vacation; Brooke Shields in Christmas light earrings on a Playboy cover), and a Countdown to Christmas timer (*points candy cane* Say Christmas one more time!!), with Santa himself on the roof with his sleigh, it feels right. It might be too much to say they don't slap you in the face with it, so instead I will suggest that it doesn't hurt. I absolutely loved the place, though it's small, and I would drag my friends here any future visit. The patio is a great place to eat pizza from next door. Amanda and Eric were awesome. Unlike the other Christmas bars located around downtown Austin that pop up around the most wonderful time of the year, if you're looking to celebrate Christmas year round and away from a numbered street, you've found the right place. Unfortunately, since these elves work 365 days a year, they are not the friendliest, especially during the holidays. During The Season, Lala's is packed. You'll typically find a line out the door, but don't be deceived, as this line is to order drinks inside, not to actually go inside. There is also a bar outside, along with more seats, but the selections are limited. My advice after visiting and having a lackluster experience: visit this bar outside of the season. It's too packed during The Season and you can't even take pictures inside because it's too packed and small. Drink options are limited (about 6 drinks) and nothing special, bartenders/waitresses give too much attitude-- definitely on the naughty list. read more

Super fun set up and plenty of space for large parties. Really enjoyed how there was a super big outdoor area with a heater above, the weather is getting a little chilly so a hot toddy with Christmas lights all around was so cozy and cute. Does have a sort of "dive bar" feel but still everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Can grab a cocktail but also a beer which is great for everyone. I absolutely love going to Lalas any time of year! It's one of those places that remains true to "old Austin"- weird, unique, and divey. Pros- drinks are really yummy. Lots of Christmas themed ones of course. Hot toddy's for days! Also there is a pizza place right next door that you can order and bring your food to LaLas patio and eat. Fried ravioli and Christmas drinks- can't beat that. The energy here is on point- lights everywhere, cheesy Christmas decor, yes! Cons- it's pretty small and can get crowded during peak hours especially inside and at the bar. I mean that attests to how popular it is. The patio has heaters but when it's really cold I'm weak af and shiver. Nine years later, and we still love this bar so hard. We met a couple friends here for post-dinner drinks last Saturday, and that 8:00 pm time is the real sweet spot because it started getting a bit too loud and rowdy for our preference when we left a little after 10. The whole premise is still charming as hell--and the kitsch factor is done with such benevolence and spirit! We love the chill, laid-back spirit and that the place was mostly filled with folks around our age who just wanted to be somewhere fun and unpretentious. We ordered a couple of specials cocktails that were actually served in "jingle juice" containers that you got to keep. You have to order at the bar, but a salty staff member was gracious enough to take our second round orders at the table. All in all, we heart Lala's! We may not be here often, but we definitely appreciate it when we are and hope that it never changes. And we want to be back again soon because we've heard that the adjacent pizza place is really good....5 stars strong! read more

Not even Scrooge or The Grinch could leave Lala's and not have a smile on their face. No humbugs over here! This neighborhood jewel is so damn epic that I'm sad I just now visited Lala's after living in this part of town for a bit. Although there is a lot of chaotic energy (in the best way possible) this bar is so laid back and a great place for you and your friends to have a few drinks and just hang out. There's a lot of hidden gems and wow moments so take the time to walk around and bask in the Christmas thematics. My fave moment was the flying Elves over the bar which were connected to a specific bathroom door. Always gave me a fun chuckle. Drinks were super reasonable and the pours were heavy. Isn't that a win in itself? With all the photo ops and pool table, you'll find yourself here for a few hours. read more

Iconic Austin Christmas dive bar. This was our 3rd time visiting and it was another good time. It wasn't too crowded when we got there at 7pm but got busier by the time we left at 830. My fiance always likes taking a picture in the huge chair so we did that, grabbed some drinks, and sat outside. I had a pour of blantons and two dogfish head 60 minute ipas on draft. My fiance got a deep eddy with soda and our friend got basil Hayden neat. In terms of seating and entertainment, they have a pool table, a Xmas countdown timer, lots of Xmas decor, and probably 20 tables inside and 8 outside After having been to their Xmas in July party previously, the Xmas decor is still fun but feels more ironic when it's not appropriate. read more

I was delighted and relieved to find they serve pizza from Brooklyn Pie next door / attached to the bar. All these years I'd written off Lala's because I assumed they didn't have any food. It's been so long since I've had good pizza that I don't even know how to be a judge of it, but I think it was good. Their slices are HUGE! I was excited to see they had Austintatious Cheesecake on their menu, but my hopes were quickly dashed, because they didn't have any in stock. I also thought we'd have to sit inside, but they have a decent little patio. We moved outside, because it was a little too loud to have a good conversation inside. I was excited to come here on Christmas Day! It was apparent we were not the only ones with a bar in mind during the holidays. They have one bar area and it was busy, but it could have been due to the day and the Christmas theme. They had one Ty of drinks to choose from beer, liquor, and Christmas themed cocktails. We tried their some of their seasonal cocktails and I was not impressed for the pricing. It was a tight squeeze in there sour was hard to find a comfy spot. I would try this bar again on a non-holiday day to see if I have a different experience. Parking was rough and by rough I mean it is basically non existent. There is a church across the way that allows people to park there which is nice of them considering. There's street parking as well, but you have to park a bit far like by the neighborhood unless you get lucky with parking at the bar. read more

Yay! Its a Christmas themed bar! Well, the decorations are Christmas themed, but they really need to work on their drink menu. This is one of my friend's favorite place to grab a drink. I went to visit him and asked him to take me here. He's talked about how he has given them drink ideas and its fallen on deaf ears. I wanted to see this myself! While my mixed drinks were great, only one of the three really screamed Christmas (and that was because of the chocolate). I liked the vibe and service, but they aren't selling any real Christmas drinks. Where is the Glugwein you find at Christkindlmarts? You guys make a Hot Toddy so you have the technology. This is such a no brainer, especially for the colder months in Austin (I will admit that May is not one of them). Lala's is an Austin landmark and happily a place that has withstood the tear-down-build-expensive apartments trend. At least for now. It's an amazing Christmas year round pool hall/bar. It's packed with fantastically terrible Christmas decor. How could that ever be a bad thing? Drinks are solid. The staff is super friendly.
