First meal back in Austin as a family and it's back to Mama Betty's with our same pals that we were here with last time. We do have to say that what this place lacks in food quality it makes up for in convenience with kid-friendly accessibility. We sat in the same general area outside so the kids could run around, and one of us ordered the "skinny marg" and she had to say that it was actually pretty good. Chips and salsa are still fine, as is the guac. One of us shared a plate of chicken fajitas with a friend, and while the portion was hefty, the food was quite greasy overall. The fried avocado tacos were a joke--they were so uninventive and the vibe was, like, "just throw whatever is vegetarian into that tortilla NBD!" Our server was, again, really sweet and we did have a good time here, but now our conclusion is final after a second visit: come here for a fun time with friends when the kids are around, but set expectations at a three and you'll leave satisfied enough. read more

Mama Betty's has become one of our go to places here in central Austin. We have fallen in love with the fresh food and vibrant atmosphere! I get the tacos à la Betty and the chicken is sooooo tender and my god the made in house tortillas are so darn good!!! The margaritas always flow with strawberry and spicy being our go to ! The servers are so kind and keep the chips and drinks full. The music is great and I love watching sports on the bar tv when a big game is on. This place is great and we frequent often. read more

This was our first visit to Mama Betty's~ on Burnet Enjoyed the ambiance very much & our server, Michael was prompt in greeting our table, providing water then chips & salsa. We definitely enjoy the creamy avocado dip & the traditional tomato salsa. No cocktails today but the HH options looked tasty Our orders, Deep fried avocado tacos, cilantro rice & black bean asked for the red bell pepper sauce (no bueno on red bell peppers) be served on the side. The tortillas were DEELISSH the fried avocados was a bit skimpy just 2 rather small pieces on each taco with the very large tortillas MORE fried avocados should be added the taste was OK, maybe a bit over deep fried had a bit of a burnt taste could have been the cooked spinach after adding avo creama, rice & some black beans. I could have ordered wrong granted the red bell pepper sauce was never added per my tastes -however I think this dish requires some tweaking. My husband ordered the pork tacos (also commented on the terrific tortillas) and throughly enjoyed them his serving as ample enough as we brought home some leftovers. When we arrived we were told the wait time for a table for 4 would be 30 minutes. We were seated 12 minutes later! And they use Open Table so you can see your position on the waitlist while you wait. Love that! Our waitress was friendly and brought drinks and filled our tortilla chips basket. Queso was very yummy and the chips have an appropriate amount of salt in the little nooks and crannies - delish! We live in the neighborhood and Mama Betty's is one of our favorite places! We have gotten to know some of the staff, and they are so friendly and welcoming. There's a large outdoor patio that is covered, with fans, and it's great to sit out on a nice evening. Indoor there's lots of seating as well as spaces at the bar. This new location of mama betty's absolutely blew me away. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and well decorated. We came during happy hour on a weekday and were seated immediately. The happy hour specials are great for trying a variety of menu options, and I particularly enjoyed the frozen drinks. The complimentary chips are excellent, as were the house salsas. However, try to save room for the fajitas, which are some of the best I've had from a Tex-Mex joint! The meat was cooked, beautifully medium rare an extremely flavorful. Great first time dinner experience last night! Why? Place has good, upbeat energy, all staff - from greeters, to servers, and food deliverers, were genuinely friendly and engaging, and the food was really, realty good. We put our name on a 40 minute wait list, but sat at the bar within 15 minutes. Great choice! Shout out to Ryan, who was superb, and guided us through the menu and his favorites, and also to Michelle, who was very attentive each time she passed by and wonderfully engaging, , and to Bianca who assisted too (see photos). These servers added to a great dining experience -- and Ryan and Michelle were appropriately enthusiastic cheerleaders for this special place. But, focusing on the food - yes, please! Tasty frozen margarita, but even better frozen Mexican Margarita. Ceviche was superb, lots of fish and not overly spicy. Steak and chicken combo fajitas for two, served in a steaming hot gizmo (see photo) were an A++ - tender, cooked perfectly, great flavor, and nice size portion. Good accompaniments and we also had a veggie topping that was very good, but I'll pass on that next time as the steak and chicken were already amazing and didn't need any add ons - but that is a personal decision (and my said she would get the topping again). Be sure to get the garlicky butter for the steak. Lime cilantro rice was tasty, as was the beans charra beans. This venue is great for families with smaller children too -- nice outdoor area. Can't say enough good things about this place - Really! And ... lots of parking, really diverse menu, priced right for Austin, and perhaps the best Tex-Mex (but with a nuanced menu) restaurant in town. We randomly stopped in this restaurant while shopping nearby and decided to try it for lunch! I am never over this way, but remembered bookmarking the restaurant on Yelp after seeing so many great reviews. We parked in the garage (free on Sundays) and walked past the cocktail bar Foxtail that I have seen online too. So glad to finally know where this is! We waited outside the stand with employees and nobody acknowledged us. A customer sitting down got my attention and told me to go inside to put our name in. We got a table for 2 right away. Brunch was ending, but we wanted lunch food anyways. Our server Roberto was attentive and fast. I started with a mezcal marg and my fiance had a cuba libre. They brought out complimentary chips and salsa, but the avocado crema was our FAVORITE. The manager Alex stopped over to ask how we were doing and we told him it was our first time in. After our food came out (I got shrimp fajitas and my fiance got the combo of beef and chicken fajitas), Roberto let us know that Alex had put in an order of sopapillas for us for dessert since it was our first time in. Super sweet! The fajitas came out sizzling and you could see them making the homemade tortillas in the kitchen. I had corn and my guest had flour and we both got cilantro lime rice for the side. I also had refried beans which were SO good, and my fiance had mixed veggies. The portions are huge and we both had a ton of leftovers. The free dessert was so good and came with honey, strawberry, and chocolate syrup. I would definitely order these next time. This random lunch definitely turned us into fans! Wowee! This was an incredible experience and I cannot believe I've never known about Mama Betty's!! We celebrated my boss's exit here and brought a whole cake and everything. It is one of her favorite local spots and I absolutely know why. I ordered the chicken fajitas and wow -- just wow! The chicken was perfectly cooked and served at a perfect lunch portion (don't be fooled by the picture!). The butter sauce(?) served with it was insanely good and the "spicier" green salsa was to live for. The black beans were spectacular and the spanish rice was, too. I don't know of any way to improve this dish! Our server was Amanda and she went above and beyond when it came to drink refills, bowls of lemons, splitting checks, etc. Seriously, I think she filled my cup about 9 times with water with no complaints. Headed to Mama Betty's after a day shopping around the Domain. Parking is a bit tight in the adjoining lot, but was able to get the last spot on a weeknight. Sat out in the heated patio since inside had a wait - was pretty comfortable and had a live band playing. Food came out fairly quickly and our waitress was attentive even with us being outside. Started off with chips and salsa and their creamy green dip really liked the salsa but thought the green dip was a bit yogurt-like. Got the chicken enchiladas and had them topped with queso which was really good. Also, the rice and beans were good. Pretty standard for Tex-Mex in terms of the flavors you'd expect only downside was the prices were a bit high for the type of food. read more

Mama Betty's Tex-Mex is a very fun spot with good food and great service to back it up. We recently came after a day of work to celebrate a coworkers retirement party and the staff was incredibly accommodating to our group. The parking situation is easy on arrival with a lot behind the restaurant and a garage next door. The place itself has a nice mix of modern and traditional Mexican feel to it with a decently sized menu to boot. It features a nice bar as well if you'd like to grab a few drinks instead of opting for the sit down vibe.The outside area was covered with lights and had walls that went up, which was a really beautiful and fun atmosphere. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our time there, which made us feel very welcomed. The service was amazing- I noticed that he, along with the other waiters, are extremely attentive toward the tables. For food we got the barbacoa enchiladas with a side of refried beans and lime cilantro rice, cheese enchiladas, some chips and salsa, and a tres leches cake to finish it off. Everything was delicious. The barbacoa enchiladas were a standout, very savory and a nice texture to the enchilada. Some places make their enchiladas feel so soggy but here it had just the right amount of heaviness to it. Likewise, the chips came with a salsa with a nice kick and this green crema that was out of this world. The only mixup was that we ordered a cheese quesadilla and got a cheese enchilada instead, but even that was still tasty. We honestly thought coming here we would have a fun little time after work and nothing more, but this place is seriously good. We aren't the biggest fans of Tex-Mex, but if it tastes like this place then maybe we need to change that. read more

First time here since they've opened and we thought we'd stop in for a happy hour. Margarita and some fajitas. We were impressed with the chips and dips. The salsas were good and the chips were actually pretty good. We both had a couple of margaritas. I had it frozen and my partner had a half and half margarita which is half Frozen and half liquid with no ice. We thought the margaritas were good and the happy hour price was easy on the wallet. We ordered the fajita combo for two beef and chicken, and we're a little surprised in how you choose your foursides because along with everything else you get with the fajitas including rice and beans, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, etc. You have your choice of four out of five sides which include two different kinds of rice and two different kinds of beans. Not really sure about that menu pairing because you're overloading with rice and beans. But hey it's not my sandbox. We thought the fajitas were okay but nothing outstanding. I kind of felt like for $52. We should have gotten a little bit more meat but it did fill us up so I guess I can't say too much about that. I went to Mama Betty's Tex-Mex y Cantina yesterday for a birthday happy hour with a group of coworkers, and we had about 10 people total. I got there around 3:30 on a Friday to try to grab a table by 4:15, and even though it was already fairly busy, we were still able to get seated. I will say that if we had shown up even an hour later, we probably would have had a pretty long wait for a group that size. Most of us ordered from the happy hour menu, and honestly, the happy hour selection is really good. I got the crispy tacos, and they were a solid 4 out of 5. The queso was also really good. By the time I finished ordering a few things from the happy hour menu, I was completely full and didn't even want dinner afterward. The waitstaff was really friendly and did a great job handling a larger group. The restaurant itself is pretty big with plenty of indoor seating, plus a very large outdoor patio. They also played a good variety of music while we were there, which helped keep the atmosphere fun and relaxed. Overall, I'd definitely come back again, especially for happy hour with friends or coworkers. read more

We are ENORMOUS fans of the OG Mama Betty's on Parmer, and the delicious Ninfa's on Navigation vibes that it transports us to, so we've been eagerly-awaiting our visit to their new offshoot on Burnet, and here we are! The vibe here is awesome! It feels modern and high-end, rather than the delightfully Casa Bonita flair of the Parmer location, but you know where you are when you see those classic parrot chandeliers! WYKYK, right? Thankfully, the menu is exactly the same, although, when we ordered our skinnies on the rocks, the server asked "regular or spicy", which I don't remember us ever being asked at the OG. We opted for the regular anyway. We're boring. As for the food, I got my usual Tacos à la Betty (one beef/one chicken), and hubby got his usual bowl of the Pozole Verde and a single crispy beef taco because...again...boring. LOL! Everything was just as STUPIDLY magnificent as Mama Betty's always is, and nothing's better than two Mama Betty's, so we're super-delighted to have this new option now! This is the second time that I have been to this location since it opened, and the second time that I have tried to order the shrimp brochette. On both occasions, there were complications and I was told that they were out of shrimp. Why have it on the menu if you're not going to be able to offer it? I went at 7pm on a weeknight. For some details that others have missed, read on: I knew I was coming here with a large group of people so I read up on many reviews to see if this place is really worth its current four star rating. Lots of folks slapping down five stars here and that got my attention. In case you're wondering, they do have a second location in Round Rock. If you plan on coming here, your first thought should be on the parking situation. There's a little bit of street parking available, but don't count on it. The other option is the parking garage on Cullen Avenue next to Burnet Road, which is not free. You would think this far into north Austin you wouldn't have to worry about paid parking. Be sure to get a ticket so it can be validated later. What's interesting about this restaurant is that it is situated in a much larger complex that is five stories tall with other businesses. Once inside you get a basket of chips, good spicy red salsa and avocado creama. This place can handle large groups, but they don't have a private room. Lots of seating inside and outside on their screened in patio. About a dozen seats at the bar on the inside and a dozen more on the screened-in side. I was surprised they only had four taps at the bar, but they do have some bottled beer. They do make a good frozen margarita and they do have a happy hour price before six. There's one disadvantage of being here. The air inside shares the same air as the patio, which means some flies show up inside as well. The queso is the usual Velveeta stuff that forms a skin in a matter of minutes, but the guacamole is well worth it. The beans and rice that come with your meal are the usual stuff you'll find anywhere. I recommend the Barracho beans as a substitute and ask for tortillas. Unfortunately, we never got our tortillas and the baskets of chips for our group was just chip fragments rendering them useless for the most part. We did get a round of desserts, but they were actually somewhat disappointing, except for the Mexican vanilla ice cream and sopapillas. Overall, the Tex-Mex served here is a little better than average and they get a lot of things right. It was good and I'd come back, the service was actually good as well. Overall experience, parking, service and food 4* As for the business owners comments, I actually appreciate his remarks on the parking as it clarifies it for all of us. As a result of this clarification, I'll add half a star making it 4*. 3 1/2 stars is actually above average and worthy of visiting. Most things were well done, some things weren't. Glad to hear they do have a private room. For you future Elite yelpers, you may get this kind of response should you rate this place lower than 4*. read more

Mama Betty's grand opening was Thursday, 11/13/2025. What a cool vibe!...a mix of old and new. The old - terra cotta wall, hand painted Saltillo plates and marble bar counter top.. in the middle of the restaurant is a cool new, modern structure. In addition, there is indoor and door seating with retractable screens. Who is Mama Betty you might ask? She was hard working single mom who instilled a strong work ethic in her children. The restaurant name is in homage to her, I started my meal with chips and salsa + creams sauce. The chips are non traditional...almost like extremely light Fritos, I loved the crunchiness and light salt. Yummy! Next, I ordered the crispy taco plate (3 tacos) and it was delicious. The taco shells were similar to the tortilla chips. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and plentiful. The rice and beans came out hot. Important to note that, the refried beans were not oily and rice fluffy and not clumped together. The guacamole was chunky, flavorful and seasoned nicely. Finally. Mama Betty's is open on Burnet Road and I could not be happier. This place has been teased forever and it lives up to every bit of it. The flautas are legit. The happy hour is honestly one of the best on Burnet and the whole spot just has that immediate good energy when you walk in. Indoor and outdoor bar setups make it super easy to hang whether you want AC or patio vibes. Service is quick and the whole place feels like it knows exactly what it is doing for a new opening. Only knock, the seat-back on their chairs is angled strangely. Bottom digs into your back... Austin needed this location! I am already planning my next stop. read more

We picked this place as a lunch birthday celebration for my son. I'm glad we did, my daughter wasn't as eager as we were to try a new place but we convinced to give it a try. We are all so glad we did. Great ambiance, cool bar area and plenty of seating inside & outside (covered patio). Our waitperson was very courteous and quick to respond to our requests. I wish I had obtained her name. Super patient and always smiling. We started with a Jalapeño Cucumber Martini, my daughter ordered the Ginger's Lemonberry Martini, both very delicious. We also ordered the Carne Asada Fries, so very good except they came out with our food order (we really wanted as appetizer). Okay no worries, we still enjoyed the fries. I shared a cup of Pozole Verde, it needed a little salt and extra cilantro otherwise really good. The presentation is a show because they pour the broth at your table from a small pitcher. Cool My daughter ordered the Flautas de Pollo (Appetizer as a meal) and they were okay. Needed some hot sauce or maybe Queso as an accompaniment. My opinion. I am a first timer at Mama Betty's and where has this hidden gem been. I hear this is their second location and I was not disappointed! Let's just start by saying the ambiance is a great setup for a possible party or hosting event. It's big enough to cater to large parties but also comfortable and welcoming. That brings me to the service, when you think southern hospitality the workers here reflect that energy. The environment is light and inviting. So we know you all are here for the food and let's just say it exceeds expectations. I have been looking for a good Tex-mex place in Austin for 2 years now and so happy I was introduced. Mama Betty's offers fresh delightful comida (food). Was very pleased to be served freshly made flour and corn tortillas with my fajitas. Pico de gallo and Salsa (the red and the green) were amazing. Some of the best chips and salsa in the game, Mama Betty's is the way to go if you want to start the meal off right. The chips are light and crisp, with just enough air for puff. The salsas are both fresh and bright, perfect accompaniments to the food. I went with a Chili Rellano with barbacoa and it was a hefty stuffed pepper. The chili itself wasn't spicy by any means and nothing quite like eating a huge stick of fried, melty cheese. The barbacoa inside though was relatively bland I would say though - needs some salsa to brighten it up, but can appreciate it wasn't swimming in grease either. Cilantro lime rice and beans were standard but a welcome accompaniment. Service was a bit slow when we went despite it not being super busy, but maybe just an off day. read more

Had a great dinner date! The live music was good. They switched the TV at the bar to the game I wanted to watch and I was able to enjoy my dinner and watch the Spurs. I ended up here on a whim. My girlfriend said she wanted to try this new place so we drove on over for lunch. The exterior of the building has some awesome outdoor space. We sat outside which is a large covered patio. It was great, especially since it wasn't too hot outside. Even so, it's completely covered and have tons of ceiling fans. It's a pretty standard Mexican restaurant. You have you usual Mexican cuisine on the menu. I had the shrimp brochette appetizer, my friends had the vegetarian enchiladas and the tortilla soup and chicken flautas. We have been to the one up north on Parmer. The ambiance of this one is definitely nicer and more trendy. The food is exactly the same and always good. This is one of our favorite Tex Mex restaurants. The service at this location is also a lot better. I ordered the shredded chicken bowl, kinda like a burrito bowl but they call it something else. I would definitely come back here. read more
