We were on a cruise to Asia and our ship stopped in Juneau prior to crossing the Bering Sea in passage to Japan and ports South. While walking around the dock area, we happened to venture into Lambros Jewelry and began a conversation with his able assistant and salesperson, Rebecca. She showed us some of his unique designs and use of precious stones from all over the world. We were then introduced to Araksi, goldsmith who was working on a piece prior to its mailing to a client and closing of the Alaska stores for the season. While Arlee was talking with Mr. Lambros, I wandered around the various display cases and was immediately blown away by a handmade ring that had tendrils wrapped around two beautiful Opals that were "full of fire." I casually asked Rebecca the price. While it was a little beyond our means, I suggested an offer which she took to Araksi. Much to my surprise, he agreed as it was the end of the season and he wished to move his remaining in-house stock. Since it was my wife's birthday within the past two weeks, I made the purchase. Arlee was ecstatic as she loves opals. They are so delicate and yet full of fire like she is. He is Greek by birth and brings that old world charm and design influences into his jewelry pieces. Top notch jeweler and fantastic service! I purchased my fiancée's engagement ring here and both her and I are so happy with it. The piece itself is beautiful and well-crafted, with a unique design created by the owner/jeweler himself. The purchase process was smooth and without pressure. They were very accommodating and let my fiancée come in multiple times (as we are locals) to try on the ring and look at it with different center stone options. They mounted the stone quickly once the decision was made with the jeweler being there himself. Turns out the setting was the correct size, but if it needed to be resized that too could be done quickly. The setting and stone was reasonably priced, which they then discounted as the season was coming to an end and gave me an extra local discount. Prior to making the purchase, I discussed it with family friends in the jewelry business, said that it was a great deal and not to pass it up. Lambros, tongue in cheek aka "The Greek God", repaired my Black Opal between 11 am and 4 pm on July 3rd. This was incredibly important to me, and almost a miracle. I was on my 10 year anniversary cruise without my husband, who died suddenly and tragically the day after we booked the cruise. We both wore our Opal wedding rings, and after he died I had the Black Opal band I had bought him in Australia resized. The jewelers who did that damaged the stone. I was heartbroken! Thanks to Amina Amor from our Viking ship, my niece and I were put in touch with Lambros Goldsmith in our stop in Juneau. Lambros and Jamie at this store took me under their wing. We were on an Alaskan cruise and wandering the Juneau streets after a good hike up Mt. Roberts. We had passed the store earlier on our way up the mountain and the clerk had smiled and waved through the window and indicated we should return. So we did. My understanding is that the owner is an award winning jewelry designer with works on display at the smithsonian museum. There was quite a selection and the saleswoman indicated that they could custom design anything with a quick turnaround. I was not looking for a ring but I think my husband was feeling shopping happy much to my chagrin. I don't respond well to pressure and in all fairness it was coming just as much from him but with 2 people pressuring me I was a bit uncomfortable. I know I am an atypical female in this regard. Also I presume the prices were reasonable but hadn't really comparison shopped for a topaz "northern lights" ring so I can't say definitively. The owner sized the ring quickly and not only is the stone nice but the ring setting is cool. read more

Five years ago, we were on a Princess Cruise to Alaska ahead of our wedding, which was planned for 3 months later. Lambros Magiafas himself made our bands and we were thrilled with them. Today we were again back in Juneau on the same cruise. We stopped in to see the people who had done such a beautiful job on our wedding bands and during that visit met Florence, Lambros' ex-wife who works at the jewelry store. With Florence's help, we decided to purchase two more matching rings -- one made with gold-encrusted white quartz, and a second with beautiful gold-encrusted dark green quartz.
