This, one mid Spring morning, I decided to walk to and on the bridge with a friend. I will say, it was worth the walk. Truthfully, there is not much to see, but it does have some very nice spots to stop and look at native plants in the area. It also has some viewing boxes for sitting in the shade and observing fauna. I enjoyed the walk because it was different and it gave an alternative route to the park. I expected to see the Parkway (Wurzbach) from the bridge, but it's really not easy to see for safety reasons. However, one can see it was well planned and definitely, invites the visitor to look at the plants. During our walk, the area was a bit dry, as we have been going through a drought, but I'm sure it's spiffed up a bit with the recent rains. In any case, I do believe it is worth a visit.

My division has a resiliency day to include team building activity. We decided most of us are…read morecomfortable meeting outside so the land bridge would be a great place to have team bonding. Our Division Chief coordinated a presentation from a park guide and she gave us great perspective on the land bridge to include how it got funded, details of the build, and animal sightings. After the presentation our group headed out to walk the land bridge. It's about a 0.5 mile walk. If not paying attention you'll realize you walked across after you walked. It was pretty quiet and patrons are respectful of each other.

However, they now have a $10 admission fee for adults and $5 for kids 5 years and up. I really don't mind paying for tickets to a museum, but this particular one is NOT worth the price it costs. I think a more reasonable ticket price would be $5 per person, due to the lack of exhibits and the short time it takes to go through everything. The museum itself is pretty small and you should be able to walk through and read everything in maybe 20 minutes max. I learned that you can rent the space for events and it seems they have some special activities for children the third weekend of the month.

Logistics. Best times to go are evenings and weekends when it's easier to find parking on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. Suggestions: park near the Natatorium and cross the river on a footbridge. Or, park near the Student Engagement Center. The path to the Blue Hole takes you past a sand volleyball court. Turn left into a wooded area, and you'll see a low stone wall encircling the spring. Sometimes the spring is dry, and sometimes it is flowing freely. Before you visit, check water level of the Edwards Aquifer. When these pictures were taken, the J-17 well was at 672' and rising. When the spring is flowing, the water surges up through cracks in the limestone and spills out into the muddy, leafy riverbed. Small fish dart around in the water. The spring is a small and humble place compared to the river as it goes through the artsy Museum Reach, the famous Riverwalk, the naturalistic Mission Reach, and beyond. Nevertheless, the Blue Hole has a sacred feeling. There is a bench nearby inscribed with the dictum, "Be still and know."

Today was the first time in 11 years I've visited it and I was lucky enough to see it teaming with water and tiny little fish nipping at things. Thanks to all the recent rain, the headwaters seem to have awoken and the natural spring began to flow. It looks different from the water in the river in the middle of the campus, looking clearer, cooler, and more inviting to stick your feet in (please don't). In fact, when I graduated, my dad filled an empty plastic water bottle from the spring and to this day it sits on a shelf in their living room. The water is crystal clear and looks drinkable. (again, please don't) The area is kept relatively clean with little to no litter surrounding the wall of the spring or immediate areas of the headwaters. A bench nearby is inscribed with "Be still and know," which wasn't there 11 years ago, but is still a nice touch to sit, ponder, meditate, and reflect. One of the more secluded spots, the sand volleyball court is probably the closest thing you'll catch a glimpse of. It's not too far within the woods where it's scary, but just far enough from the hustle and bustle of campus life.

Each column have different artist. Some funny, some religious, some scientific, and some artistic. The murals are nice to look at. If you dine around here you can enjoy the mural while having a meal.

In this parking area situated under the freeway, you'll find examples of most of San Antonio's most talented mural artists. Each artist was given a support strut to paint, so there's no cohesive theme per se. It's just a wild array of different styles of art on the supports that are, like, twenty feet tall. Super Instagrammable! Look out for the works by Nik Soupe and Robert Tatum! Cool stuff! The art "gallery" is right down the street from the San Antonio Museum of Art, which is a cool add on to this trip. You can see some other murals by one of the artists, Soupe down the way at the San Antonio Current building, on N St Marys down the street. It's in the middle of a parking lot, so of course, parking is easy. It's right next to Ceverezeria Chipultapec, which is an artsy restaurant/cantina, so it's a nice combo.

I didn't take any photos but another gal on the bus did and shared a photo that caught a glimpse of what could have been Eugenio. Was he see through? yes. He was wearing a flat old timey hat and was sitting in the courtyard. It was very strange that he was sitting there for so long. Long enough for a photo to be taken and for the whole bus to come and stare at him and for us to drive away. I even came back 2 days later during the day to debunk there wasnt a new statue added to the courtyard that we werent aware of. there wasnt... I cant wait to come back and visit this place during operating business hours. I watched a few youtubes about the casa navarro and love the rich Tejano history.

Navarro first bought the property, about 1.5 acres, in 1832. Beautifully maintained and air conditioned, we were the only visitors and spent some time resting and discussing Navarro and his life with each other. Ring the bell to get in if it is not open. There is a small gift shop on site.

It really helps you imagine life along the river, a calmer more serene life. But now, it's in the center of the Museum North stretch of the Riverwalk, and a really cool place to hang out and get out of the sun. I'm not quite sure where that black pipe comes from, but it always seems to be running some water to add to the effect of the sounds. The artist is Bill Fontana, from San Francisco.

So, I'm a HUGE history person. I love reading biographies and love everything about Texas history…read morein general. Just happened to be in Seguin today; came across a fantastic monument to Juan Seguin in the center of town near the old County Courthouse. Seguin, to use "the youngins'" newfangled terms, was a complete BAD A$$! He served in the Siege of Bexar, defended settlers after the Alamo fell, served as mayor of San Antonio, and served as a Senator for the Republic of Texas. Those are only some of his accomplishments... Given all that, his burial place is REALLY DISAPPOINTING. First, bear in mind Seguin did not die in Texas; he died in Mexico and was exhumed and buried in the current location in 1976. Given that, what the hell was the city thinking when they chose this spot? When I went today, it was nothing like the pictures online. The grass wasn't maintained - very overgrown. The flags flying at the site were worn and tattered. The City of Seguin is the caretaker of the site, and it is, quite frankly, embarrassing. Juan Seguin deserves better. In my opinion, they chose the wrong location to re-bury him and the site is just too plain. I don't expect an eternal flame a la Kennedy, but this site needs some work... Glad I now know more about Seguin, but really disappointed in how he's honored...
