"i need socks!" I say loudly over the din of my family's conversation. We are in Princeton for a family memorial, and as usual when multiple generations are together, I revert to the 16-year old girl who is struggling to be heard against the cacophony of voices. "I need socks!" I repeat. "Hold on, hold on, Liz says she needs socks!" my mother announces. "What, they don't have socks in California?" my Dad asks with his eyebrow raised. "I need WARM socks. It's freezing here." I say, trying not to sound like I am pouting. My socks of of the thin, cotton variety - a joke when faced with wintry, snowy weather. So, all morning long we discuss my need for socks, and we go in search of them, and also the Einstein museum that my mother has read about. We have gone about a block on Nassau Street when we see a sign saying "Sock Sale". Everyone smiles and we march in like a troop of soldiers. Now, if there were a store ever built for my family, Landau's Woolens is it. The store is piled floor to ceiling with more product than I have ever seen in my life, everything from scarves to mohair blankets to boiled wool jackets to Viyella shirts. Like kids being set loose in a candy store, we all go our separate ways. The treasures, the treasures! Out of the corner of my eye, I see my Dad walking around in a top hat looking like something out of Dickens, my mom cooing over the handmade Christmas stockings, while my grandfather's wife and I are pouring over the huge variety of socks for sale. Let me tell you, these socks? You haven't tried socks until you try these socks. Cashmere wrapped around other fibers, soft yet durable, in a variety of colors and....HALF-OFF *angels singing*. This is truly the mecca of fine hosiery. They get them directly from the factory in Camden, NJ, the same one that sells to Nordstrom's. I pile them into my arms like I have just won the lottery. "Please" our salesperson says, "go put them on right now." They clear a chair for me and I put on my first pair of socks. It's like stepping into a warm bath. Suddenly all is right with the world. Wait...there is more. Remember Mom's wish to visit the Einstein museum? Yeah, that was easy too, because it's located right at the back of the store! Now that's not something you see every day. We walked out with our multiple purchases and a business card with the website address for future needs. My Dad fails to make a comment about how spoiled I am because he is too enamored with himself in his new hat (which was a big hit around town). My mom is giddy about her new Christmas stocking. And me? You can just call me Happy Feet from now on. Great store, great staff, excellent product. Einstein is not the only genius in residence there! read more

Every visit to town while in Princeton.. I always stop in. This is a multi-generational store that knows where to import wool and cashmere in from all of the best locations.. jackets, sweaters, scarves, socks, etc.. don't leave without pictures of einstein.. and Liz S. is so right... don't leave without socks. Found a gorgeous scarf from Ireland for mom on another visit. You will love something in this store. read more

I am in Princeton every year or so. Landau's offers an expansive and uncommon inventory. I've purchased woolen scarves for the Chicago winter as well as hard-to-find men's caps. Also, some great summertime baseball hats without team insignias. You can spend lots of $ here but also purcahse some genuine bargains. This shop is an old-school treasure. I pray that it doesn't go away. read more

The shop is a little shop located next to small world coffee and tacoria. It was my first time going there and the employees were nice and super welcoming. Their clothing is very affordable and they sell Princeton Uni merchandise as well as other things. Their hoodies are super comfortable I would def recommend it.they also give me a free pin with my purchase read more

Yes, Landau's has some nice apparel in the back of their store. I've bought a beautiful wool coat here which I'm pleased. However, they are hit and miss on inventory and selections. It's very difficult to shop local when you can't be certain that a store will stand behind the purchase. My wife bought me a lovely shirt as a gift which was a size too small. When I sought to return the shirt, the store had ZERO men's shirt inventory (let alone a new size of the existing shirt). When I asked store personnel when they expected to receive more inventory, they were utterly clueless. Their response was "I don't know when or if we'll ever receive more inventory". Are you going out of business? "No". Do you not know what is being ordered and when? "No, we're not told". Well, do you ask? "Umm, no". Ok, well then why on earth would I ever buy from you again if you're known to not be able to stand behind your wares? "I can give you store credit...". Why? You don't have anything for me to purchase and you don't know if you ever will! I now own a shirt that is too small with no recourse other than to locate and speak with the owner, and then what? If you're looking for some alternative Princeton Univeristy t-shirts, Landau is your place. Otherwise, this store is a model of why small businesses are failing to big corporate and on-line shopping. If you're going to own a business, do it right or don't waste the consumer's time. read more

This is a great store on Nassau street. They sell all kinds of Princeton merchandise. I especially like their winter collection of scarves and gloves. They have well-made classic pieces. They also sell funny shirts and some nice leather goods as well. It's very well stocked and the staff is very friendly! read more

The gentleman was incredibly rude. The place was over-crowded, and their entire operation is quite questionable as there was no tax, they illegally printed trademarks and sold them, and some of their merchandise was questionably inexpensive, especially for Princeton. read more

A bit small and cramped inside. But, on the day we visited it was pouring and we had a (hopefully) future Tiger whom we felt would look really nice in a baby Princeton t-shirt. Got a pair of umbrellas and a shirt for the youngster and left satisfied. Will stop in again next time I'm in town. read more
