It began with the promise of homemade pie, and ended with the best banana crème pie I have ever tasted - homemade crust, perfect meringue, custardy filling goodness and just the right amount of bananas. Pies are made daily, and when they are gone, they are gone until lunch the next day (they are too warm to be served at breakfast because: fresh out of the oven) We had the meatloaf plate lunch and the hot roast beef sandwich- everything was delicious. Just as impressive was the staff- at least 2 if not 3 generations of people working, and working well, together. We were also entertained by the locals, coming in and out and very friendly to folks who were obviously from out of town. I absolutely love finding these local hidden diners. Such friendly staff and place was hopping. Great ambiance with pure locals. We stopped in for lunch on our way back to Nebraska from Branson on a whim. We were greeted with friendly service right away! I didn't catch our servers name, but she was fantastic. She helped my kids decide what to eat and made sure they were happy. My boyfriend had a double cheeseburger and said it was delicious, my blt and onion rings were spot on. Huge portions. So, I called in and placed an order for a cheeseburger & fries and was told to come pick it up in 30 minutes. Only to find out they don't make cheeseburgers on Sundays and I was lied to after traveling 15 miles to come pick it up. I decided to go ahead and get their pan fried chicken for $9, since I had to pick something else. The good is you get up to 3 sides included with your meal. The bad? I didn't think the chicken was all that great, it wasn't bad, but not to my liking. The mashed potatoes are the same, nothing special, but okay. I did like the green beans and jello, but they seem to buy them from the same place the school does because they taste exactly the same, lol. Really good chicken fried steak, homemade rolls, and blackberry cobbler. They serve pickled beets which are my favorite. They have pretty slow service on Sundays but that's because they are so packed! They have a limited menu on Sundays because they're cranking out food left and right. Don't be dismayed by the old country kitsch décor and the fact that folks are still lighting up a smoke inside with the kids at the same table. I had a double cheeseburger and was wonderful. Real meat and bread toasted on grill with butter. Smelled as good as it tasted. I had a side salad and lettuce wasn't good at all plus was swimming in dressing. Husband had the catfish special. Was really good as well. One of his sides was creamed peas and he said they were wonderful. Then we decided to split a piece of coconut crème pie. OMG was it great! Said we should have started with the pie. Was warm, fresh with a flaky crust. Wonderful. VERY reasonably priced. Fried chicken on Sundays is great also. The only reason for a 4 star rating is the poor salad. Think the lettuce was way past due date. I didn't say anything to our waitress but probably should have. We will definitely be back for more great food. read more

Saw the reviews and decided to give it a try as we drove through the area. So glad we did! Had the pan fried fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, pickled beets and a hot dinner roll. Hubby had the same. We shared a piece of peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream. Iced teas and coffee and our total check was a little over $22!! But the best part was the food was awesome!!! They close at 2 on Sunday so make sure you get there in time to have a piece of pie before they run out. The after church crowd was there and everyone seemed to know everyone else. I have been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years. The days are kind of hit and miss as far as product quality. I wind up today for chicken because I love their Fried Chicken. I was very disappointed because the serving portions have gotten smaller the pieces of chicken I received were more bones than meat I received half a back and a wing. And the prices have increased. So even though I'm usually a huge fan, today I was not. Also the rolls are not as good. Today mine had a really thick an edible outside crust on the edge so I had to just peel out the center. Of course we always go back because each day is different and I really hope they get their food quality and portion size back to the way it has been in the past . read more

A hidden gem off the beaten path! If you go on a Sunday before 2 pm, you'll get delicious, juicy fried chicken. A 2 breast fried chicken dinner w/ 3 sides is $8.45. Save room for dessert! Berry cobbler and pies, all homemade with tender flaky crusts and meringue. Their dinner rolls are sooo good!! It's located in Lowry City, the downtown section, in an old brick storefront building. They have awesome breakfasts (real biscuits and gravy - not something from a package) and great lunch specials that vary from day to day.
