I have known Roger Conant of Landmark Retrievers for 20 years. Roger trained my first lab, AKC HR Marathon Mans Lethal Weapon Spike. Spike was a high drive dog that I would have struggled with if not for Roger Conant. Roger helped Spike become a great dog, both in the house and in the field. Roger helped me get Spike into some UKC Hunt Tests and I was able to get Spike titled as a Hunting Retriever(HR). Roger also helped me get Spike into snake avoidance training to keep away from snakes while hunting. Twenty years later I got my next Lab, Merg's Doc Holliday. Doc is a handsome Fox Red Male Lab out of two of the greatest Fox Reds in the Nation, his dad Rooster Smasher and his granddad on his mom's side, Sonic Scooter. Roger and his staff at Landmark Retrievers helped train Doc to become an awesome dog again both in the house and in the field. The property at Landmark Retrievers is always very clean, kennels are nice, the training grounds manicured, and also some nice water opportunities. Roger uses live birds and bumpers in his training to give the dogs what they need to grow as retrievers. Maybe best of all, Roger and his staff not only train your dog, they train you on how to handle and train your dog. I have become very knowledgeable on dog training and personalities thanks to Roger. Roger overall has a unique style in explaining to clients what's going on with your dog while they are there for training. I believe Roger and his staff have trained over 4000 dogs and counting! I would recommend Roger and Landmark Retrievers to anyone wanting a well-trained family companion and excellent hunting dog if you are a hunter. I would never take an animal to this place after reviewing the video of Jeff Schultz abusing that poor dog and some other slug standing and watching and not even flinching watching that low life beat up the poor dog. That dog was not aggressive at all but trying to defend himself...he was cowing when Jeff picked him up and choked him then picked him up buy the ears( which is a dogs most tender spot) then fist hitting him in the face. A beat dog is an aggressive dog period...then when some kid comes by and moves wrong for fear he is going to get him then he bites them and is put to sleep. You can tell by the video it is a common practice as the slug standing and watching does not even flinch....soooo those are there training methods there....They need to be shut down...the hero here is the guy the took the video and exposed this place. It should get a rating of -1000 Then the video that he defends himself . What rights do these poor dogs have against someone like that they have to bear...he should be in jail...dogs only bite when they have been or are abused. I Decided to make my own decisions, and not dismiss LandMark retrievers as a training facility for my lab. The facility is a Dog Paradise! Staff is knowledgeable, and the results have been great for my Chocolate Lab, Hershey. Roger was willing to work with my schedule-- I have brought her back 3 times with weeks of interruption in the training. It still stuck. I feel that Hershey has the fundamentals down, and will continue to advance in training. The best thing you can give a dog is manners and training. It changes their perspective on how they deal with challenging situations and gives successful outcomes. She got three opportunities to deal with a "pack" in play. Enjoyed the Kennel experience, and was glad to get home and show me her new lessons. read more

This place was AMAZING to our dogs! We took our 8 month old yellow lab and 10 month old golden retriever for the 6-week basic training program. Both dogs had an absolute blast. They were able to run around and swim every day, while being trained daily on obedience both on and off leash. Roger, Jeff, and Megan were all extremely kind and respectful to both our family and our dogs. Our dogs love seeing them. We were able to go out once a week and work with the dogs ourselves which was good training for both us and them! We now take our girls back every time we go on vacation for a refresher training and some time out in the open fields! read more

I have the utmost confidence in Roger and his very competent staff when it involves my precious dogs, who are a handfull at best. Meagan has patience of a saint, Jeff is willing to go the extra mile when you need his help, it is always a clean, professionalism , with Roger's expertise overseeing everything. The grounds are immaculate, and the animals there are well controlled but always playing or seem very content in their surrounding. If I could give negative stars I would. Videos have surfaced of dog trainer Jeffrey Schultz lifting a dog up by its ears and slapping it in the face repeatedly. The dog yelps in pain with each blow. This is someone's loving pet. This dog was entrusted in the hands of these people. Not only should they have a bad yelp review this guy should be arrested. I would not recommend this facility for training or boarding. One of their trainers (paid employees) was recently (Nov 2015) videotaped horribly abusing a Retriever in their care. You could hear the dog cry in pain and recoil out of fear. If one of their trainers would use such methods, it is not a far stretch that others at the facility would do the same. Just saw on CBS11 that Jeff Schultz was abusing and striking a dog while the dog was clearly yelping. Never a reason to strike a dog like this. Don't know how you can call yourself a trainer. I am very saddened that there are many animals that have likely been abused by you. Hope this establishment is shut down and you go to jail for animal cruelty. I've been using LandMark for over 15 years and know several other retriever people who have used them for years, as well. I've never had anything but excellent results from Roger's entire team. My dogs can't wait to get to them when we get there and they have been both trained and boarded there and will continue to be for as long as I have these great dogs. read more

Watched the video yesterday of the trainer hitting him in the head, yanking him up with his leash and collar, slamming the poor lab down while another person stood by and watched.
