(Though, what doesn't, lol) I came in here looking for a shirt that would be flattering, kind of modest and covering my stomach, and make me feel pretty -while being not too flashy. Kind of ridiculously picky, right? Not to these saleswomen! Three of them walked around with me, talked to me, joked with me. They didn't care that I was smelly fresh from the gym or opinionated on everything. In the end I ended up looking at a blue sparkly shirt, unsure how I'd look in it- and a saleswoman came up to me, told me she had it, and told me how she styled it. She helped me pick the right size and made me feel so good about myself, though I'm not a standard "sample size." When I walked in, clearly nervous, the woman folding clothes at the front said, "Come right in. You're in the right place. This is what we are here for!" A+. I know it's salespeople's jobs to be kind and sell stuff, but they went above and beyond with customer experience. They made me feel beautiful when I never do. And not judged. Great experience. Most places have the top and bottom as one size and sold together. Torrid, sells their swimsuits separately, which is a bit more expensive but totally worth it. I ordered online and it was a 40% off sale day. Fantastic! However when it arrived, the top was just a bit too small. I drove out the the Maine mall and asked if they would take an online return. They did, and I got a tip that was 2 sizes bigger. The person at the register seems apprehensive about the online return at first. However once she realized, she was very kind and asked if I wanted to try the new top on. It's a good thing I did, because it was too large. I finally got one that was just the right size. Perfect for me! So I was very happy to have had a great experience and this is my 3rd torrid bathing suit, they really are very nice for the big ladies. And the wait to cash out can be overwhelming (PRO TIP: bring a book and read in line while you're waiting). 4. And how frustrating is it that you can buy something on a Tuesday for $49.99 and two days later it's suddenly on clearance for $9.99?! On the opposite hand: 1. I'm madly in love with their flip-flops and - no joke - have had some that have lasted for years despite daily use. 2. The sizing of their yoga pants is on point. Not only are they durable and excellent for actually practicing in, they're also super comfortable. I'm wearing a pair right now. I will probably wear a pair (maybe the same pair) tomorrow. 3. The staff can be super patient too. Like when I show up at the dressing rooms with 4x more clothing than I'm allowed to try on, and they let me (I gotta hang the extra stuff outside the door, but that's fine). They also take back 143 of my 147 items after I've tried them on without making me feel badly, so I appreciate that. 4. The house music during the holidays is glorious. I didn't know there were fifty two versions of "All I Want For Christmas", but I wanna listen to them all, back-to-back, on repeat. And ON gifts me that. 5. And their clearance section? Sometimes it's magical and clean and lovely over there. Other times it feels like a post-apocalyptic riot just happened. Of all the Old Navy's in Maine, this is my go to (in the morning when they first open, that is).

It's a weird thing to notice, I know, but these things were seriously unhygienic; I couldn't help but take note. Upon entering the store itself, I saw what seemed to be a good selection of baby...stuff. As someone who doesn't have kids, and is never around them, I had no idea what a lot of it was, or what would be an appropriate birthday gift. No problem, I'd just ask a salesperson for assistance- or so I thought. The three employees I saw were all having an intense conversation at the sales counter. I walked up, waited. Cleared my throat. Made eye contact. Said "excuse me" to the salesclerk who was looking directly at me. Finally, feeling invisible, I left. This store is probably great, if you walk in knowing what you want, and don't need any help. For those of us not in the mommy club, however, it's just not a welcoming place.
