We asked our friends and coworkers for recommendations on where to buy a couch locally. Many of them suggested Macy's. Which, to be honest, I had never considered. It's really not an option that comes up when you Google "furniture stores"; and, well, the Yelp reviews aren't the best (... then again, a lot of the negative ones are written by people with no photo, so are they really that trustworthy?). We looked online at their couches. There were some seemingly really good options! And then we just sort of put the idea on the back burner until my partner threatened to burn our terrible, horrible, no good, very bad (and very broken) couch (... to be fair, I had also threatened to do the same thing, but he's much more calm and composed than I am, so when he said it I knew it was Go Time). We pulled the website back up, found a few couches that made the most sense size-wise for our small, strangely shaped apartment, then took a drive over to The Maine Mall. Not a single sales person talked to us; it was lovely. We found a couch we liked, and an older man by the name of Kevin sauntered over. It didn't seem like he had any expectations or agendas. We immediately liked Kevin. The Radley was our vibe (and our price range, and would fit our oddly shaped apartment), and Kevin let us reconfigure the floor model, sit on it, lounge on it, bicker about it, move it around some more, until we found a configuration we wanted. Kevin then very patiently answered our never-ending list of questions regarding their WORRYNOMORE warranty. Our couch is FANTASTIC (it's maybe not the perfect color, but we didn't feel like waiting three months for the color of our choice). It's probably one of the best pieces of furniture we've ever spent any money on: unbelievably comfortable and so well made. Also, it's cool that if we move into a bigger place we can buy additional pieces to make The Radley longer! My only piece of advice? WAIT UNTIL THERE'S A SALE. Which there often is (Christmas sale, Valentine's Day sale, Memorial Day sale... just wait until any major US holiday); you can save more than a thousand dollars in some instances! Granted having it delivered to your house costs a couple hundred (even more if you want it delivered to the room of your choice and just dropped through your front door, and EVEN MORE if you want it set up); the warranty also costs a couple hundred... it starts to add up. Made it a point to greet us while we were in the jewelry department (those ladies were also helpful and friendly) and invited us to try on makeup and we ended up loving this new to us brand. I regularly have security tags l left on. I live over an hour away so to fix this issue I have to drive 2 hours to have a tag removed. I purposely asked the cashier to double check and explained how far I lived. Well getting home I realize there is a tag. This cashier was not properly trained as he shoved my purchases into my bags with the one handed fist method. Shoving and balling up my new garments and thrusting them into an overstuffed bag. Located at the Maine Mall it's a great store to find a new outfit, linens, housewares and name brand cosmetics and handbags. They have removed a lot of there check out areas. Kinda sad because you have to walk around to find a register to check out and most times get in a line. If you order online the pick up area is by the ladies activewear on the first floor. I do like all the coupons to save a little extra. If you don't have a coupon go online you should find a few. read more

Ok this is a real review and not one made as a joke. The other day I had gone to Macy's with my father to go buy a suit. After about an hour and a half of shopping, I started to feel like I could go use the restroom. So I go upstairs to the bathroom and this is wear it gets weird... there is a guy mumbling and moaning in a stall, which was odd but That's not The stores fault, the next stall over though had the door wide open and the back of the toilet was COVERED in crap. Like literally human crap. And it didn't look fresh it had been there for a long while. Literal gas stations have cleaner bathrooms than this. I would think that you could probably expect more from a place that sells $500 suits. About a week later I began to call this place multiple times to inform them of the situation. I bought almost 700.00 worth of bags from the Charleston sea bag store . The bags were gift for my daughters. Before I left Charleston one of the bags handles started to unwind. I went back to the store . The women at the store told me there was a charge for repairs. I told her I just purchased it the day before . She looked in her book and then said it was free. The repairs would take 4-6 weeks . I thought this was a isolated problem and agreed to the repairs . This was a gift for my daughters birthday. Now three weeks the second bag I bought is doing the same Thing. I am over this . Obviously the bags are not made Very well ( to have the same problem with two Bags) I have not been able to reach anyone via phone. I walked in to Macy's wanting to build a whole new business casual wardrobe. I think I have good taste in what looks good but I'm in no way comfortable finding clothes that will fit right and putting things together. I grabbed a couple pants and a couple shirts to try on and then went to see if someone could help me get measurements for some more formal shirts when I was introduced to Danielle. After explaining to her what I was looking for, I ended up getting service I did not expect from a mall clothing store like Macy's. Danielle was amazing! She helped me nail down the right sizes from pants to shirts and then I literally spent a couple hours in the dressing room while Danielle brought me items that were exactly the colors and styles I like and even some challenges I wouldn't have picked but turned out to be some of my favorite looks. I now have an entirely sharp and fresh wardrobe for my new job and I cannot be happier. Macy's, you have a winner with Danielle! I went to Macy's last night to pick up some bra's. Now I don't know about any other ladies but how often do you get a bra and feel like yeah that fits in the store, but you get home take the tags off and you hate the fit of it as soon as you wear it? Well that is literally the story of my life. I don't think I've ever had a bra that fit right. So I was shopping in vain last night knowing that I wouldn't find the perfect fit when I saw a woman behind one of the counters, Doris, so I went over to ask about their return policy because of covid, she said the normal time frame unless there was a label on the price tag for sale items which were 30 days. As I was talking to her I just thought hey this is the department she works in she probably knows more about these bras than me, so I asked, "I can never find the right fit, how do I know if it's the right size for me?" Doris, not making me feel like a fool or embarrassed pointed to herself and asked me, "Do you pucker here or here?" I indicated where the part of my bra normally puckered in the middle. She nodded her head, "Okay so you need a bigger cup size." She said. I thought okay that's good to know, but then I asked her the other question, "So my bra straps are always slipping, like every single minute of the day, what does that mean?" I think she probably laughed under her mask, or chuckled but she stayed polite and said, "If your straps are slipping your wearing the wrong bust size." I felt a bit of relief, and then Doris looked at what different bra styles I had in my hands, she shook her head pointing at one, "Now I wouldn't recommend that, the coverage isn't very supportive. A lot of people prefer this one with more coverage on the side." She said pointing to the second one I had in my hand. I put the one back that she said wasn't good and went back to the rack to find what I now realize is my correct bust size and cup size in the style Doris recommended. I went to try it on, and oh my god....ladies it was amazing. I've never been able to find a bra that doesn't slid off my shoulders. Which sounds crazy to some, but to those who know where I'm coming from with this you know this is life changing. I got three different colors in that style and went to check out. When I was being rung up the one at the registered asked if I would like to pay with my Macy's card. I said yes, but I didn't have my card on me, so she looked me up with my license and social. As I was being rung up I realized I had absolutely no clue where I had left my physical Macy's card. I asked the woman if I could order another physical card some way in the store, she shook her head. But then she did into her pocket, pulled out her wallet and ripped out her own Macy's card. "Here let me write down the number for you so you can order it." She handed me an extra copy of my receipt with the number written out, as I was leaving, "I would call sometime midday tomorrow the line won't be as busy." She said as I left. I did make the call the following day and she was right, I had zero wait time which was amazing. All in all Macy's customer service is literally amazing, the woman there truly go above and beyond. Doris and the woman who rang me up were so sweet and thoughtful even though it was late in the day and I'm sure they were looking forward to going home and getting their masks off, it was just so nice for them both to go the extra mile to help me. read more

Macy's is okay if you want a wide range of brands and types of items in one place. For instance, you need high end cosmetics, a discount bin purse, a Coach wallet, Calvin Klein bra, men's boxers and a children's toy. The fitting rooms tend to be absurdly busy, unattended and messy. I'd like to give a shout out to the female employee who was working in the luggage section of the Maine Mall at 100 Maine Mall Rd, Portland, Maine on last Saturday morning, 7/13. I went there in a panic because my suitcase was not closing properly and I was about to take a bus to Boston and then a flight. I explained to her the situation and she rang up my suitcase purchase quickly, let me unpack and repack my new (working) suitcase, and she even disposed of my old suitcase (she offered, I didn't even have to ask). She even saw I was rolling the new suitcase incorrectly and showed me how to correctly roll it so I wouldn't hurt my back. Terrible store. The employees all act like they are above you, and look at you like you're dirt. Ask people for help finding something and they give attitude or brush you off and walk the other way. I personally would think that a struggling department store would shape up and try and retain their customers instead of driving them away. A fter 4 months you are sitting 5 inches lower. Never saw anything like it .AND , the store will not back you up even though there are numerous amounts of complaints over the last few years. Mixed review. Had to chase all around the store to get anyone just to point to the Levi's. Then had to walk up to her repeatedly saying 'excuse me' whereupon she went the other way. Twice I asked other folks with Macy's tags on them for help which they refused and referred me to the lady that clearly did not want to offer ME any help. BUT the young guy at the dressing room was pleasant and informative, seemingly not as stuck up as the other three folks I had interacted with. Kudos to him for saving the sale. I was at your South Portland Maine store today after calling to verify a pair of Sperry's were available. I was told "it does show we have one" i drove 45 mins to get there, spent 20 minutes waiting in line for the person in front of me to be cashed out, then waited another 25 mins for the sales associate to go get the shoe outback. The best part??? You didnt event have the shoe!!! I spent over $150 in your store today, and by the way your check out process is slower than a dial up modem. Stickers and scanning and trying to sell me a Macy's card. Are you kidding me!? I asked to speak to a manager, but "one was not currently available" Consider this my last visit. By far the worst store experience ever. Complete waste of my time, and gas today. Not happy about this experience at all. There is absolutely no customer service right now, and hasn't been since early March. I received an order of some dishes that I bought online. Most of them were fine, however several of them are cracked. I called back then and they said they would send me out a new shipment. It never arrived. I have been trying in vain to get in touch with them since that time. There's absolutely no way that I can find right now, to either talk to a person, or email customer service. My partner and I went into Macy's a couple of weeks ago to buy a couch and we were really impressed by the selection (and prices) of furniture that they had. We were helped by Kevin and picked out the perfect couch that we ordered for delivery. Unfortunately when we got home, we realized it may not fit and cancelled our order. After being put through the ringer with Bob's Discount Furniture, we went back to Macy's and were helped by Kevin again. He was extremely nice and helpful, and made our experience so much better. Never ever ever buy furniture from any Macy's. This is nothing against the store in Portland, Maine, itself; the store and its employees are fine. The problem is the quality of the furniture and the warrantee. Decades ago I bought a very nice couch from Macy's and thought that the tradition of quality would carry forward. Not so. The couch my husband and I bought 4 years ago was made in China, unlike in the past. Within a year, one side sagged badly and a technician came to the house and declared it unfixable, and it was replaced. Another year later, same problem. This time the technician said it was the cushion, and that he would replace the cushions. He never showed up, and we kind of didn't believe it was the cushion anyway, so we dropped it for a while. The frame has a 7-year warranty, so when we finally looked at the underside and saw a badly bent frame, I called and said I wanted it fixed. i was given an appointment on December 18th. On the 15th, Macys called and said they needed to reschedule for no earlier than January 5th. I was also told the frame "bending and sagging" was considered normal wear and tear, and was not covered by warranty. So I cancelled the service call and am buying a better quality couch, elsewhere. I just spent two hours at the Fourth of July sale at Macy's South Portland. I found some great items that I was excited to try on and hopefully purchase. I set my alarm for 40 minutes before they closed to go try on my clothes (that I had been shopping for for 2 hours) in one large dressing room, that I had stored them in, with a pair of slacks on the outside of the dressing room and ensured the door was closed. (The same exact method Macy's associates use to hold a dressing room). I looked for someone to help me, but no one was available. However one lady at the register observed me putting items in the dressing room. I walked over to suits for a few minutes, found some additional items and returned with 30 minutes to try on the clothes. One of the associates rudely stated to me "you better get busy trying on all those items, you don't have much time ". The GOOD news is there was finally someone there who might be able to help. The BAD news is it was someone who I never would have sought for help with her "get the hell out of here we're trying to close " attitude. Is it got to my dressing room I noticed the door was open and I know you saw my items were gone so there goes two hours that I couldn't afford to spare so I left the items I picked up in suits came out to my car and tried for 15 minutes to call and get a human being to answer the phone. I tried five departments before finally I went to cosmetics and Evelyn answered the phone. She said she would find their floor manager "Katie" and immediately give her my message. It's been 20 minutes and I haven't heard back but I know that they're in the middle of closing so I will update if she calls me back. I'm going to ask her to give me the same deal that was available today for the Fourth of July sale tomorrow when I come back and then if those items are all together to keep them together for me because I'm not gonna spend another two hours wasted. If they haven't kept the close together then I will not be interested in wasting another two hours there. How disappointing and upsetting. I did not have two hours to spare/waste!!!! read more
