Over the years I have purchased a few right hand guitars that needed to be changed over to left hand so I can play them. Each of them has been converted, new strings and set up to my satisfaction. Each of the guitars had no buzz and the strings were lowered to my satisfaction. If you don't want to pay the price of the guitar strings they sell then bring your own and they will put them on at the same price as if they sold the strings. Yes, the strings are higher priced than Best Buy or Amazon but consider this is a music store and they do make a profit off of the strings. I have always found the owners and the employees nice and helpful. They offer good advice to me and advice me what is needed to get the used guitar playable for this left handed person. I. I feel like I need to preface this review with a few disclaimers. Often times people look at me and assume I am a rock star. I assure you I am not. In fact, my only musical ability is singing like a maniac in my car, or the occasional karaoke post crawfish boil. So basically what I am saying is that I don't know a piccolo from an oboe. I visited Lanier because my oldest child decided to bust a violin string. I think she did it on purpose because she wanted to quit violin, but I was determined to get it fixed. I found strings on Amazon and almost bought them. Before I did I realized I didn't know the first thing about changing violin strings. Lanier is packed with musical equipment. It was a little overwhelming. I must have had that deer in the headlights look because after a few minutes someone walked up and asked what we needed. They had the string in stock and were able to change it out pretty quickly. I remember thinking it was more expensive than ordering online but I gladly paid knowing it was done right. If you need something and have no idea what it is, Lanier will hook you up. read more

I went to Lanier music today excited to buy my son a student saxophone and also to get two instruments serviced. I was dismayed to see that none of the store's several employees were wearing a mask. When I questioned the clerk behind the counter about this, her reply was very dismissive. This store has been in our community for a long time- it is a shame that they are thumbing their noses at a statewide mask mandate and that they are acting irresponsibly to their community they claim to serve. I will not give business to a store which has no regard for the law, public health or common decency. Take your business to another local store. read more

The mark up on items here are pretty steep. Not to mention, the owner, Randy Lanier will speak badly of any brand or product he does not carry. There is also a younger lady that has worked there for quite some time... I have never dealt with someone that rude in a music store. Ever. There is something to be said about her lack of knowledge on products as well. The only upside is that the layout of the store has been gradually improving over the years and the lesson rooms are nice. My advice- do your research online and get the price you deserve without the hassle of dealing with rude people. read more

This place rocks! Randy and Janelle are two of the most competent retail gurus in the greater NOLA area. The internet may seem like a good deal/idea but in the end you get what you pay for and it might be f'ed up lol. The old adage that you "get what you pay for" is true. My kids needed musical instruments for school. We took them here and found just what we needed. With the incredible line of customers, I thought the staff handled them pretty well. It was busy, but the staff took the time with us and answered all of our questions. I thought were got a fair price for the instruments and good advice to boot. read more

Seriously one of the worst shops I ve ever been to. I will say, the layout is cool, and the employees seem nice enough at least. I brought my guitar in to get set up and restrung. The price was $40 (without strings) which is about average so that was fine. The strings cost twice as much as anywhere else. I have literally seen these exact strings for almost half their price at BEST BUY. First of all, it took FIVE DAYS for them to set up my guitar. Even the most difficult guitars don t take more than an hour and a half for an inexperienced person. When I got home, I found my guitar was nowhere near being in tune, and the intonation was WAY off. Not only that, but I had the worst fret buzz I have literally ever heard. I ended up doing the entire job myself...in 30 minutes. What a waste of money. I m pretty sure all they did was put new (overpriced) strings on without even tuning them correctly. I say this because the bridge was at exactly the same height as when I took it in. Also, I left one of the screws on the bottom of the bridge, almost all the way out when I cleaned it before taking it in....the screw was still almost all the way out after they were finished... I will never set foot in this place again, and I suggest you do the same. ....the least they could have done is wiped it down real quick to get their greasy fingerprints off. read more

The man is a sleaze. Support another local store people! Honestly, he gives literally nothing for trade-in and jacks up prices substantially. He reminds me of that sneaky car salesmen and unfortunately I learned the hard way when I was younger. I had 5 guitar pedals including a very expensive wah pedal($220) that were all purchased originally for around $650.00. So, a fair price given that they were in perfect cosmetic and working condition would have been AT LEAST $300.00. Well, I ended up trading them all for a small Traynor DG10 amplifier which was sold around $240 at his store. Seeing the price made me consider it and believe it was worth the $240. When I got home I saw that the amp is only worth about $115.00 brand new and his price mark-up really made me think I was getting more value for my trade. So, i gave him a bunch of free guitar pedals which he probably sold at 70% of the initial price given that they were in perfect condition. Don't let this sleaze screw you out of hundreds of dollars b/c that's how his mind operates. I understand that he's trying to make money but he pushes beyond the limits. I bet many other people have the same feeling I had when talking to this man but unfortunately I didn't see through the BS at the time. read more
