The restaurant wasn't busy at the time (about 6:00pm), whether they haven't caught on yet in the local area or if Thai1 becomes busier a little later in the evening I can't say. Perhaps the lack of customers was the reason for the speedy service too. Whatever the reason, it was efficient and courteous. My something and rice and the Lady-friends noodle thingy were both tip-top. In my experience Thai food is either really good or really bad but credit where it's due, this was some damn fine Thai. I was hankering for something a little higher up the Scoville scale than usual and the meal I had - and I remember this part particularly well - nearly blew my face off. Then, displaying quite a sense of humour, a waitress places a small bowl of extra chilli sauce next to me. Just in case I felt the need to attempt full combustion. Food was top notch with all the old classics of Green Thai Curry, coconut rice, and Pad Thai turned out very well. The ingredients seemed fresh and well sourced. The spice level was just right i.e. not to hot to burn your lips but strong enough to get you glowing. The waitresses were charming and very pleasing on the eye. All in all a good night had by all. The only thing letting the restaurant down is the lack of ambience. When I've visited there have only ever been 5 or 6 other tables occupied. They do take away too but it's a bit pricey so I would always opt to dine in.

Is it insanely, authentic, spicy/pungent Thai like you might fine in Chiang Mai? No. But this is Chelmsford. I found it tasty and they serve chiles if you want to kick things up a notch. It's also a big place. If you live near, I'd consider throwing a party here. As mentioned, the staff are friendly and I thought it was funny that after finishing my entree, I was served a cute little mince pie as a holiday treat.
