After walking through the central shopping district, I was worried I might be forced to lunch at a chain restaurant or at a chippy/falafal/discount burger joint with no character. So when I saw what looked to be a unique Thai place, I decided to roll the dice - even though there were no Yelp reviews. Thankfully the owners of Siam Cottage really want to provide a memorable experience. This is first evident in the decor... the furniture, statues, paintings ad other art leave no doubt you are (temporarily) in Thailand. The service is prompt and friendly, plus the food hits the spot. Is it insanely, authentic, spicy/pungent Thai like you might fine in Chiang Mai? No. But this is Chelmsford. I found it tasty and they serve chiles if you want to kick things up a notch. It's also a big place. If you live near, I'd consider throwing a party here. As mentioned, the staff are friendly and I thought it was funny that after finishing my entree, I was served a cute little mince pie as a holiday treat. I was also impressed that the restrooms were insanely clean. Back in a another life I used to manage hotels so I pay attention to side things cause they indicate how much effort the management makes. I didn't meet any Essex girls in Chelmsford, but definitely found a place I'd love to visit again. read more

Siam Cottage is a wonderfull and authentic Thai restaurant. Having spent a month in Thailand recently I can vouch for the authenticity of the cooking. If you loke Thai food this is a must and they even do a take a way. Book as the place can get busy as it is very popular with regulars. read more

The Siam Cottage is located in Moulsham Street, a busy road just off Parkway in Chelmsford. On street parking is restricted and to be found further up the road. If not there is a small pay and display car park on Parkway. The restaurant is deceptively large, despite its facade. The staff greet you politely and provide a friendly, efficient service. Downstairs is a seating area for couples and smaller parties. Upstairs is a good sized room suitable for larger groups though I would always recommend booking ahead. The menu offer a good range of Thai cuisine, a la carte as well as set menus. The food is delicious and I would recommend the Green Thai Curry. The prices are excellent, especially for its city centre location. I would recommend this restaurant for its delcious food, efficient service and great prices. read more

We had booked and had email confirmation but they could not trace our booking when we arrived. Food was fairly good but our starters were served on a plate with a large chip out of it. Service was what you might expect in a chain restaurant. When they got round to it. Overall a very disappointing experience which we will not repeat. Perhaps they ought to pop up to the Thai Cottage in Witham and see how it should be done. (We have no connection) We have no problem spending money in a good restaurant but sadly Siam Cottage left us feeling we had wasted an anniversary and been mugged. read more

We walked in about 7:30 on a Friday night and we were seated very quickly. We were taken upstairs away from the main part of the restaurant which seemed lively and generally had a good vibe. Upstairs however was cold and dark, it felt like it was only used for overspill. I had the thai green curry which was ok, nothing amazing. Prices were reasonable. If I were to go again I would request a table downstairs - but to be honest, I probably wouldn't go again. read more

This place is amazing. The food is so well priced - approx. £32 per head if you include a starter, main and dessert with half a bottle of wine (cheaper if soft drink/beer!) and brilliant quality. The service is a bit slower than the average restaurant but I don't mind as I enjoy spending a long time in there (2 hours) with my family enjoying the food and company. The atmosphere is great - beautiful decorations and brilliant smells coming from the kitchen!! Definitely worth a visit - the best priced quality restaurant in Chelmsford in my opinion! read more

Excellent service and the staff are polite and friendly even under pressure on a busy Friday and Saturday night. My favourite is the Red Roast Duck Curry which is cooked to perfection. The Thai wines from Monsoon Valley winery are very complementary to the Thai cuisine, and the rose and white are particularly suited. I have had good meals here in the past. However, I think they have a new chef as my last visit was extremely disappointing. The most annoying thing was the waitresses reaction when we tried to talk to her - she just got aggressive. I won't be going back. read more
