Not into the visiting resorts doing the same old thing every day? Want to get away to a place with peace and quiet, with captivating horizons and enchanting scenery, a country with a fascinating and impressive history, where no two days are the same and where you can experience seafood at its best?
Well, Lanzarote's Puerto del Carmen is for you! It is a resort in which you can change your holiday style at any given moment, the morning can be spent on the luxurious beach front, sun bathing and rock pooling to discover all sorts of small fish and sea life, following on to a delicious lunch at one of the infinite number of excellent restaurants, I personally recommend any of the 'Lani's' chain of restaurants and bistros; the value for money is exceptional, the portion sizes are good and the food is always faultless.
After a laid back morning at the beach, the hot midday sun can be avoided perhaps by some retail therapy at the designer shopping mall, or maybe one of the numerous excursions to various tourist hotspots such as Lanzarote's very own dormant volcano; the reason for Lanzarote's national symbolic character being the El Diablo (Devil) as in the 1700's a large part of Lanzarote was completely covered in magma, thought to be similar to the fires of hell, however, let me assure you that Lanzarote could not possibly be more like heaven! Coaches take you around the Timanfaya National Park, with your very own tour guide, showing you the volcanoes, the landscape and the very active hot geysers, after your coach ride around the park, you can treat yourself to a meal prepared at the restaurant which is actually cooked using the heat from the volcano and geysers very delicious I may add.
Other popular tourist spots include the Teguise Market, which is held each week on a Sunday and plays host to literally hundreds of market stalls lining the streets of this old town, many of which can sell you small selections of Lanzarote's rich culture in many forms of artwork and music. There is something for everyone at the Market, which is held in the old capital of Lanzarote, with bargains to be found around every corner.
For the ultimate relaxation experience perhaps you'd like to try a visit to Lanzarote's number one tourist spot; Jameos Del Agua, a quiet and picturesque lake covered in the most amazing cave tunnel, the acoustics are so good that it plays host to all kinds of musical talents, such as the Festival of Visual Music of Lanzarote. The lake is home to the most amazing species of small crabs, they are tiny albino crabs, which are also blind, and are such beautiful creatures to see in and around the lake.
So after your activity filled day spent in the sun, you may want to have a relaxing meal out, or get all dolled up for a night on the tiles; either of these desires Puerto del Carmen can satisfy completely and easily, all you need to do is decide what kind of evening you would like, then take yourself on a stroll down the main strip of Puerto del Carmen and select your destination; perhaps one of the aforementioned Lani's Restaurants, or perhaps La Ola, which is situated on the seafront, with amazing fusion foods which tantalise the taste buds, the overall experience at this particular restaurant is luxurious, the staff are exceptionally polite and sociable, the food is extraordinary and the layout and design of the restaurant is breathtaking.
If you don't fancy a quiet night out, perhaps a night at Puerto del Carmen's numerous pubs and clubs, which include sports, Irish and Aussie pubs, night clubs and more upscale bars. There really is something to suit your every mood.
In summary, whether you be older or younger, an outgoing party animal or the more reserved and relaxed type, the perfect holiday for you can easily be found in Lanzarote, and in particular in Puerto del Carmen, the resort where even though it's on the Southern coast, it is certainly in the centre of it all.
Don't believe me? Believe all the other reviewers and very satisfied tourists.
