This was a fun experience overall, and we trusted that the instructor knew what she was doing. Both my daughter and I chose the flower glass blowing activity. I opted to make a flower, while my daughter planned to create a flower-shaped ring holder as a surprise gift for her sister, who loves rings. Those were the options given to us by the instructor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the long wait--20 days--for our pieces to arrive, especially since we paid $25 for shipping. I had to email the owner to remind her to send them out. She was apologetic, and the pieces eventually arrived. However, to our dismay, my daughter's piece turned out to be just a flower, a beautiful flower, but not the ring holder she asked to make with the guidance of her instructor. The instructor was with her every step and guided her through the entire process, but seemed to forget the goal of making it into a ring holder which was an option given to us. I reached out to the owner to explain the situation, but there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or any indication of how it might be corrected. Overall, we were left disappointed. read more

A great little art studio/glass studio/blacksmithery in Larchmere neighborhood. They have different art (glass, textile, metal) in the shop, but the fun part are the hands-on classes. They periodically have group classes for things like glassblowing, solid glass work, and blacksmithing. They also do custom group classes in demand. I first came here for a Yelp Elite event and had so much fun that I came back for another class with friends! Light refreshments (wine, soda, pizza) were provided. They gave a demo first, then helped each of us to individually craft our piece. They are very good about safety and making sure we didn't botch our art too badly. It can go a little slowly if there is a large group and you need to wait your turn, but it helped to have refreshments and the shop to browse in. My friends and I had a great time and want to go back again! Note: pieces may need to anneal/cool so have to be picked up a day or so later. Also, the furnace shuts down in the summer (July/Aug), so plan accordingly. read more

What a great experience! I have recently decided to pick up the hobby of blacksmithing, haven't bought any tools, or a forge or anything, because it's a fair investment, even to get a humble setup to get started. SO, after much consideration, i decided to search locally for a place where I could get some experience and instruction and found Larchmere Fire Works via the internet, and decided to give them a try. What I found, is not some business where you have some underpaid people guiding someone else's vision, but a person who genuinely loves blacksmithing, and more specifically TEACHING blacksmithing. He was patient, and easy to understand, and demonstrated each step, explaining the expectations (A little too well, I discovered, when I went to follow his directions). After his demonstration, I took my piece, IN MY OWN HANDS, and made an attempt myself, quite poorly. He never grabbed the tools from my hands, never chastised me, simply let me fail while explaining how NOT to fail. After a few attempts, I could feel it dialing in. We did this through each step, all the way to the end of the session. If you have even a slight interest in blacksmithing (or glassworking, though I haven't experienced this myself (YET)), this is a place where you will find people who share your interest, and would love to show you. In addition to being a creative facility to take classes like glassblowing and blacksmithing, they also have a really nice gallery store offering tons of works by local artists - everything from vases, dreamcatchers, lamps, paperweights, jewelry, plates, wine glasses and more. I recently purchased a few gifts here. One was a beautiful set of ceramic drinkware and a gorgeous etched decorative plate. I loved them so much I kept them for myself! And I have zero regrets about it because they make me so happy! In addition to their fabulous classes, I love that you can stop in to purchase one-of-a-kind local gifts that burst with originality. What a great, fun business in the Lanchmere area! I had never experienced glass blowing before and had some friends come to town, so we decided to try the drinking glass making class. The instructor was very patient with us as newbies and allowed us to help as much or as little as we wanted to. We also had an almost 5 year old with us, and he was even to participate safely in the process. My 8 year old grandson who loves the netflix glass blowing and forging programs thought he had died and gone to heaven from the time he exited the minivan. He made a vase and hanging forged piece to hang it on the wall. I have been wanting to try glass blowing for some time. While in Cleveland for the holiday I was given a list of some things to do in the area. There it was, glass blowing! I knew this was it! We called and talked to Tina and she agreed to do a class at the time that worked for us. We arrived and it was everything I could have expected! The studio was in the garage behind their house and retail store. This garage was filled with tools for their crafts, glass and blacksmithing, clearly this just wasn't someone's past time. We were shown what options we had and it was time to start. Feeling the rod go into the molton glass in the furnace was exhilarating! Tina walked me through step by step and helped me with certain processes along the way. After some spinning and blowing on the rod my ornament was taking shape. Cassidy was helping throughout the process as well. He mentioned that he teaches blacksmithing. Both Tina and Cassidy were very personable and made our glass blowing experience more memberable. You certainly get the feeling that they enjoy their crafts and they want to help you have a fantastic experience with them.
