This review is mostly a graduation that I have attended on the 6th of June.. this year. One of my friends' grandchild and her sister who are twins also graduated from this lovely, beautiful, historic, ancient school that I adore and is SO near and dear to my heart. Yes, until today. Those great years, moments will never be forgotten. And they shouldn't. The school was divided into many different buildings. From their Science building, to Dance, English, Math, to the Martial Arts building. Just to name a few. They also hold different activities at this school when school is out. Like meetings, different types of celebrations inside their fairly large auditorium. The level of education is pretty good. So is their curriculum. When we graduated, we graduated at the iconic Hollywood Bowl. I thought that they stopped doing it, but the tradition is still the same. I remember we had to do a lot of fundraising in order to graduate at the Bowl. It was very exciting. Graduation was packed with a lot of students giving their speeches, along with their staff members. It went pretty smoothly.. We were sitting on the bleachers and could hardly see the ceremony. Thank God for the TVs on both sides of the bowl and the loud speakers. The Hollywood Bowl as some of us know, has different sections for merchandise, concession stands and plenty of restrooms. A lot of my favorite celebrities also attended this school back in the days. Like John Ritter, Judy Garland & Lana Turner. Just to name a few. If you want to sign your child up for this school, no need to look anywhere else. Highly recommend! Parking is at the Hollywood Bowl. Go Sheiks! That was our mascot and still remains the same. I was blown away by the dancers, and the organization of the performance! The performing arts magnet always has something going on, and I love that they keep the students inspired and connected! I do wish they would figure out a parking structure, because sometimes the gates are closed and it's hard for parents and family to park when there's an event we're there to see! One other thing that could be a nice addition is concessions. There usually aren't many things to buy food/beverage wise at the school's events, and with some of the events going on for hours, especially football games, I think more effort can be made in that area! Looking forward to continued performances from the dance team!

It definitely feels like a high-quality facility and made for an enjoyable viewing experience in many ways. that said one concern stood out to me, the railings and the sitting area seem lower than expected and don't offer as much support as they should. This could be specially problematic for older visitors or anyone who relies on sturdy support when navigating steps or elevated seating. It's something that might not be immediately noticeable to everyone, but it does raise safety concerns overall while the gym is visually impressive and a great venue for games, I do think improvements to the railing design would make it safer and more comfortable for all guests.

Fully 1/2 of students don't make if from elementary to 7-12 class and the school still isn't addressing the primary reasons (poor academics). Selma is literally a revolving door. Many, many administrators and the academics are less challenging than the elementary schools. However if you want edutainment, needs tons of support, etc. it will probably work. Tons of teachers shifted from position to position, very poor reviews, and yet they never leave. Poor treatment and value of volunteers. Zero stars.

In my short time there, I met some largely decent parents and enjoyed being able to serve. Principal Linda Kaye-Crowder, however, is a duplicitous bureaucrat. Don't take anything she says at face value because she has two of them. She presents herself as a compassionate individual, but she is working for the system, not for your kid. She mocked one child's gender expression when she thought no one was listening. (But I was.) She would gossip about parents behind their backs. Part of this is owing to her age, the other is that she has zero leadership ability whatsoever. It's a STEM school where the principal doesn't do email, apparently. She only sometimes wore her surgical mask in 2021, so she didn't even conform to the rules set forth by the county of Los Angeles or LAUSD. There is no school security (which is more of an LAUSD issue). A rear fence was only sometimes secured. There was also asbestos in the walls as late as 2022.
