Belle Isle was the first place that came to mind! I lived in RVA (Manchester) for a year from 2007-2008, and Belle Isle became a second home for me during that time. As an avid adventurer, I highly recommend Belle Isle for the following reasons (based on my pre-pandemic/circa 2008 experiences): 1.) Egalitarianism: It's a great place to mix and mingle with people from all walks of life. 2.) It's a great choose your own adventure type of place where you could spend an entire day doing a mix of the following activities: kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming, reading, sunbathing, whiling away time on the rocks, cloud gazing, having a picnic, doing landscape photography/photoshoots, etc. 3.) The James River! It's the only Class III-IV white water rapids in the U.S. running through the heart of a city center. 4.) Wildlife (especially the aquatic birds)! 5.) Proximity to the rich culture, food, and history in Downtown Richmond that you can explore before or after your Belle Isle adventure.

I was approached and told i would have to wear a t shirt because my gym attire was " inappropriate." I have never felt more shamed nor targeted as a female in my entire life. What a shame! Do not go here unless you want to wear a track suit while working out. Disgusting staff and management whom need to be fired. As a paying customer with a membership I will NEVER return here and will encourage my friends, co workers, and family to not do so as well. Female misogyny comes in many forms at the rec center gym!

I visited Maymont on a recent trip to Richmond and was surprised at the size of the estate,…read moreespecially considering that the gardens and outdoor areas function as a free public park. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of areas to relax and picnic. There were lots of people out enjoying the good weather but it never felt crowded. It's a little confusing trying to figure out what things require a ticket/paid admission. On the map they provide, there's no indication that a ticket is needed for the mansion, but one is in fact required. However you have to buy a ticket at the Stone Barn by the entrance. You can try buying on the website but I didn't have great signal. Instead I backtracked to the Stone Barn to get a ticket but the prices were higher than what I was told at the Mansion and they appeared to be limited to timed entry and all the time slots were sold out. Long story short, I didn't see the inside of the mansion, but still spent a good couple hours exploring the outdoor areas. Which was all free so I count that as a win.

Awesome summer fun for all. We just joined this pool for the summer. It is great. It is a little…read moremore pricy then the pool I saw at last year but it looks cooler. If you are a Woodlake resident you do get a little discount. We joined as a family and were even able to add a babysitter tithe account. There are 3 different pools. One is a kiddie pool that is set off to the side. The second is a little deeper (not exactly sure how deep) that has a slide going into it. The third is the mushroom pool. There is a big mushroom that you can walk under that has water flowing from the top. It starts about 2 feet deep(maybe less) and goes to 5 feet at the deepest end. Until school lets out it is open from 12 to 7 during the week. The weekend is 10 to 8. After school lets out is is 10 to 9 daily. There are plenty of lounge chairs as well as table to sit at. I haven't been there on a busy day yet though. There is a concession stand. I'm not sure of the hours. But during the week while school is still going on it wasn't open at 2:00. The have hamburgers and hot dogs and other items. There are no alcoholic drinks served here though.

We have been Non-Resident members for years and are very disappointed in the direction that the…read moreSRC/AFC pools are going. The new SRC pool is great, the management is far from that. We have had numerous days that one of the many pools were closed due to not having chlorine. This was told to us by the director and also stated that "Swim Metro has black balled us from getting chlorine from vendors because we stopped using them to staff lifeguards" She also stated that they were "spending $300 a day in chlorine from buying it at Lowe's and Home Depot" The lifeguards are very kind but lack management and do not all apply the same rules across the board. At one pool you can play with squirt guns and toss squishy balls, and at another you're not allowed to have anything to play with. Everything is very inconsistent and a total disappointment. We are canceling our membership as are several friends of ours and going to another community pool. I really hope that Woodlake can get their act together so they stop losing members. There is so much potential and lack of management is ruining the experience for members. On a positive note, the gym and instructors are great!

Lovely little museum and visitor center at the back of Crump Park…read more Inside the visitir center shows the history of Gabriel's Rebellion and the Sheppard Family of Henrico The visitor center is open daily, the Meadow Farmhouse is open by appointment only. There are live animals outside the Farmhouse.....not for petting or feeding! Henrico Parks and Recs offers lectures on VA and Henrico history and often meets here. We love walking through the park and often go to the lectures.

I love history and this area of Glen Allen is steeped with Virgina history! It opened in 1981,…read moregifted to Henrico County by the namesake park, the Crump family. The museum of Meadow Farm here behind Crump Park is a lovely example of rural farm life in circa 1860. It's well-preserved and has distinct architectural significance of middle class living in that time period. The outbuildings are also well-maintained and the grounds are nicely manicured. At times there are festivals here where folks dress in period costumes and demonstrate candle making, basket weaving, etc. and a blacksmith quarters. There are also animals dwelling in the barns and pastures of this natural living farm. They have many activities and historic events, including a history of "Gabriel's Rebellion". There is usually a big July 4th celebration and other calendar events. This is a wonderful family park as there's lots of trails, picnic areas, a lake and other amenities. Don't miss touring this beautiful park!

There are so many fields (inside and out), a couple bar areas (for sodas & snacks only of course) and they have some games and the rock climbing facility. I've also seen corn hole boards, ping pong tables and tvs. I've always thought this would be a perfect place to rent out for a few hours, have a wiffleball game and let the kids get their energy out while celebrating a birthday or special occasion. My only reason for deducting one star is the bathrooms could use a little updating (but the ladies room in the back does have lockers and a shower).

A social summer gathering spot that is kid friendly, unpretentious, and located in a lovely, quiet neighborhood setting. Best feature is the swimming pools (there are four!!) which are kept impeccably clean, as is the rest of the nicely landscaped property. Pools are open from late May through (September- Labor Day). The club has really stepped up its game with the 2018 expansion of the lap pool to 8 lanes and renovating bleacher seating. Snack bar is good, but cash only. Food is as better than you would expect for a poolside snack bar, and super convenient poolside. Lifeguards are attentive & on duty at all times, which is reassuring. They are also very courteous and friendly. The guards manning the diving pool even engage the kids in an entertaining game called "categories" as they jump off the board. Kids love it. There are 9 lighted tennis courts to choose from. All are in spectacular shape. I particularly like courts 8 & 9, which are nestled inside the woods, and great for shade if you catch at the right time. Though the bathrooms/showers/changing rooms are dated, they are kept very tidy. Amenities are numerous: 1. 8 lane lap Pool, with diving blocks 2. Family pool, with two tunnel slides 3. Diving pool, with two boards 4. Kiddie pool for the under 5 set 5. Plenty of lounges, tables & chairs (with umbrellas) 6. Snack Bar (cash only) 7. 9 tennis courts (two nestled in the woods) - and awesome tennis instructors!! Open year round. 8. Awesome swim & dive teams 9. Free parking 10. Locker rooms with showers 11. Outdoor Showers 12. Poolside playground 13. Basketball courts 14. Covered picnic table / BBQ area 15. Sports Field (soccer, etc) 16. Numerous fun events for kids & adults This is such a wonderful, family friendly recreation association and it has become our home away from home in the summertime.
