Greens nicely contoured and fun to read. It has really suffered over the last decade or so and my group booked a time with the understanding we wouldn't come back if it was in terrible shape. Short review is the greens have been almost restored to the shape they were in originally. Bunkers had nice sand (I hit enough to know). Most tees and fairways were just ok and were better than we expected although some bare spots exist and definitely winter rules are in effect. There were quite a few players out that day which was good to see. Based on the improvements of the greens and bunkers I give it three stars and would play here again soon. Hoping fairways/tees catch up. This was a jewel when it opened and I wish them luck bringing it back.

Took advantage of the great weather last week to play at Hunting Hawk…read more They had overseeded and the fairways were spectacular! On #1 my buddy and I both hit short of the green, landing in that little swail leading up to the green. As we both took some practice swings for our chips, he commented how "lush" it felt underfoot! The greens did not disappoint either. It looks like they recovered from some infestations years ago. I'll continue taking advantage of the mild fall weather to get in some more rounds at Hunting Hawk this year.

I understand not wanting a bunch of singles clogging up the course. If that's the case, then don't allow singles to book more than 36-48 hours out. If you're a group of four looking to play golf on a weekend you better hope you're looking for a tee time prior to then anyway. I can also guarantee this place is not packed to the gills on weekdays either. They're just leaving money on the table and turning people away while they're at it. If you ask them about it they'll likely just say "because I said so."

The cost for range balls is a little more expensive than I would like but that doesn't stop me from going. They do offer a membership that makes it more worth it. Matts are in decent shape. I wish they would add more targets to dial in distances. I've got multiple lessons from Brooks Ward and he's a great guy. He adjusts to your play level and is easy to talk to. I was shooting mid to low 80s pretty consistently before meeting with him and now I am into the high 70's low 80's after a few months of adjusting to changes. Our lessons were more focused on swing mechanics and specific shot types. The 6 hole course is a great time if you only have a half hour or if you are teaching someone new to the game.

Rolling hills and obstructed views make this course more challenging than it looks. The greens are fast as a NASCAR track, so beware of that. Try to stay on the fairway, because the rough can easily swallow your ball and is somewhat difficult to chip out of. Overall, great time! Quick six holes to finish up a work day! Great for the short game (no driver needed here). I never took anything less than an 8 iron out of my bag! Highly recommend!

The Capitol Region of the National Collegiate Club Golf Association hosted our first Spring…read moreRegional Tournament here over the weekend of February 23-24 2013. Head Pro Gray Thouron and his staff went above and beyond in accommodating everything I requested, from dividing the driving range for each school, to helping take photos, to bringing in extra staff to help cook some food and man the pro shop for us. As far as the course itself, I could tell that it must be a phenomenal track during the summer months. There was a great variety of holes, and although the scorecard yardage is only 6,300 yards, the course plays much longer than that. Given that it was late February, much of the grass was dead and there were some rough and uneven patches on the tee boxes, in the fairways and around the greens. For the most part, the greens were in excellent shape with a couple small exceptions. The bunkers were very recently renovated and in excellent condition. The $40 per day price tag including range balls and cart fees was very reasonable. All in all, I will recommend the NCCGA Capitol Region utilizes this course again in the future, perhaps later in the season so the course has time to get in slightly better shape. The NCCGA is the governing body for collegiate club golf teams across the country, with regions ranging from New England to Texas to California to the deep south. We host regional and national tournaments each semester and provide a mechanism for kids to continue playing golf in college. Visit our website at nccga.org

I took my dad here for Father's Day, expecting a great round, but instead, we got five hours of…read morepure frustration. The course management was completely nonexistent. We were forced to wait on the group ahead of us at every single one of the 18 holes. There was a massive logjam on the entire course, yet the Ranger/Marshal decided to make us their target. The Marshal came up to lecture us about our pace three separate times. Where exactly did he expect us to go? We couldn't hit our balls because the group in front of us was literally still standing on the fairway or green. Getting rushed and harassed when you physically have nowhere to go completely ruins the rhythm of your game and makes for a miserable experience. If a course is going to overbook and stack tee times on a major holiday, they need to manage the bottleneck from the front, not bully the groups in the back who are already stuck waiting. Incredibly unprofessional. We won't be back.

Heads up, the practice green is comparable in speed, but NOTHING like the greens on the course. They have lots of angles and undulations.
