My experience was fantastic thanks to the outstanding customer service provided by Jen. The products were of great quality. However, the biggest issue I encountered was the delay in processing my order. Despite waiting for a week, the items were still not shipped, which was inconvenient as I needed them before leaving on my trip in two weeks. Jen was very understanding and quickly canceled my order, processing a refund for me. It would be even better if they could improve their efficiency in fulfilling orders promptly. read more

I've been a customer at Larrimor's for years, and I'm disappointed in how the store handled a very simple issue. Their employees never asked for my birthday when setting up my profile, which meant I never received the birthday gift cards they advertise. When I contacted the store to correct it and asked for the past year's missed offer, the owner (Tom Michael) refused, even though the mistake was caused by their own staff. Instead of honoring the gift card I should have received, I was only offered a donation made "in my name" to a charity. While that may sound generous, it doesn't solve the original problem, and it left me feeling like the store wasn't willing to take responsibility for their own oversight. It was a very small request and could have been resolved easily with good customer service, but it wasn't. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend shopping here or trying to resolve any issues directly with the owner. There are plenty of other stores that value their customers and stand behind their promotions. read more

Sorry I have to ding them this time. Was in Pittsburgh in early February for a conference with my wife and had some hours so thought I'd revisit this nice little department-style store. I forgot how full-price it was... it's almost as if it's more than what the brand itself costs. One doesn't see that these days... The selection here is decent for a store of its size, if not a little rando. It feels somewhat curated but there's enough variety of brands to choose from to make the visit worth it for that... The issue was the service. We walked in and were almost immediately accosted by a salesman: Salesperson: "Hi welcome in, can I help you find something? What brings you in?" Me: "No thanks, just here to browse..." S: "OK what brings you to town? Business or visiting family?" Me: "Just on a quick trip thanks, we'll look over here" S: "What kind of business are you in?" Me: "Different things..." S: "So are you here for meetings?"... And so on--the guy literally followed us closely as we made our way from one end of the store to another. He stopped when I was looking at something, at which point another salesperson came up and asked the same salvo of questions Guy number one came back and started up again "so are you staying nearby?..." We were literally chased out of the store by its salespeople. Here's a better script for them: "Salesperson: Hi, my name is X, welcome to Larrimor's" Me: "No thanks, just here to browse..." "Salesperson: sounds good, just let me know if I can help you find anything" Hounding customers and charging more than the designers themselves is not a great way to do business these days, but I'm keeping four stars out of respect for a longtime Pittsburgh institution. I went to Larrimor's for an event the other night and was so impressed with how beautiful and large this store is! I didn't know that it was a 3rd generation family run business. I have walked past it so many times especially when I lived Downtown, but never went in. They have a great selection of women's and men's clothing, jewelry, accessories, and shoes too! I loved looking through the purses and fall accessories (hats, gloves, etc). They sell mostly business clothes, but had some funky jackets and jeans that I really liked. The employees were all super friendly and offered assistance. It was fun to browse and I would definitely recommend shopping here for an outfit when it's time to go back to the office. In business for seventy-five years, it continues still today the long along traditional department store ethos of impeccable customer service with its offerings of high-end quality bespoke clothing, and accessories (shoes, scarfs, ties, belts, socks, jewelry, etc). I am partial to their menswear but I did splurge on myself a beautiful hand painted scarf. They bring in designer trunk shows to augment their already impressive inventoried merchandising if you're into sample sale shopping (I prefer to try on before I buy myself). Larrimors is a great place to elevate your wardrobe. My husband has found great clothing here, including a beautiful coat, cashmere sweaters and very nice work pants. They cherry pick special items from top notch designers so you always find very fine clothing. The staff is superb and I love the personal service such as the hand written cards sent after a purchase. They also do complementary tailoring for the items purchased. While this is not a store I'd typically shop I do pop in now and again to buy socks for my boyfriend. They have a nice selection of socks and while a bit pricey definitely worth it. It's seriously refreshing to find a place like Larrimor's because it makes me believe that it's possible to have a great shopping experience in person rather than settling for the inevitability of buying stuff online. What sets Larrimor's apart, though, is that much of what they have to offer has been thoughtfully displayed and well chosen. This results in, practically speaking, fewer choices upfront, but the choices are themselves quite nice. The obvious counterpoint to this is that everything is fantastically expensive*. Don't let this detract you, though. I would approach shopping here as a sort of long-term investment which is to say that the overall stock is almost conservative but well chosen and stylish. If, like me, you are looking to slowly build up a wardrobe of nice clothes you'll still enjoy wearing in a few year's time, then i'd say you should probably stop here every nine months or so, maybe buying once a year or as your budget permits. The service is nice, courteous and thorough. Associates are well informed and sartorially resourceful. I wish i had noticed that parking was validated, which would have saved me the hassle of negotiating a parking spot in downtown. *while much of what is carried is expensive, i would caution against saying it's *needlessly* expensive (although, to be fair, it's still expensive). For an example of that, go to saks or nordstrom where you will find items which are expensive for the sake of being expensive, rather than because they are quality items. read more

I arrived in Pittsburgh but the airline had other ideas about my checked bag so I was in a bit of a pinch the next morning at 9am with an hour to spare before a presentation in front of 500 people. No biggie. The staff was in the middle of a morning briefing but, Michael, an associate noticed my slow burn anxiety and offered much needed assistance to get an outfit together. He offered to press the items and handled everything so well, I went back later to tailor my pants (complimentary by in house tailor) and picked up a pair of shoes with Michael's assistance again. The manager, Linda, offered my a cup of coffee while I waited and it all took me back to the days of classic departments stores and unparalleled service.
