First off...food is fantastic! This is the 4 stars. It's a family run business so pack your grace and patience because the wait to serve is long. The ambience is casual and kind of old school luby's cafeteria type seating. The building is old and the menu is overwhelming. However, back to my first statement - the food delivers flavor so stop by and support local. Chips are homemade and red salsa is great- no green salsa today. Just today- maybe they will have it when you visit! And note their Mexican omelette has gravy on it- very creative and delicious if you are on a protein diet! read more

While passing through the town of Wallis looking for a place to eat we decided to try this place. Reviews seemed positive that we read and it was right off the highway and we were starved. My thoughts? Decent local restaurant with good food. We hit it early so the dining room was not full but the service was fast and the food came out in a timely manner. Tasty. Generous portion sizes. I have been kicking myself for not trying this place out sooner. I had the stuffed avocado plate. It comes with a fajita or shrimp stuffed avocado, I opted for chicken fajita, taco al carbon, beef, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Sooooo delicious. Meat is flavorful and tender. Glad we ordered a small queso that I topped the avocado and taco with. Hubby has the fajita chicken enchiladas and he really liked them. Wish they would dust a little more. This is our family go to place for good Mexican food at a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and we love the murals so much. The mix drinks are quite big with a reasonable amount of alcohol. The food is fantastic and my daughter will steal all the red sauce. I recommend the fajita enchiladas and the carrots tacos. Definitely worth a stop in if you're coming through Wallis. It will be a very fun experience that is easy on the budget. read more

Oh, I wish this place was closer to my house!!! My family loves this place!!!! My husband and I get the same thing almost every time we eat here because it is so good!!! The chalupa deluxe with fajita beef!!! YUMMY! My mouth is watering as I write this. We also get one beef fajita enchilada too. I have gotten the fajita nachos, and the taco al carbon before and they are great too. My daughter gets the chicken enchiladas and loves them. Since retiring to the country, this has become my favorite place to eat out. Everything is good. When i get take-out, there is a considerable decrease in the amount of food (especially meat) compared to the restaurant plates. The menu states that they charge extra for the containers but the receipts aren't itemized so I'm not sure how much. read more

The food here IS good, and overall the only better Mexican restaurant around might be the one in East Bernard, because of its magic green salsa. Over in Sealy, you won't find better. See my other reviews for more details on that. Here, they have the good thin crispy chips and TWO salsas, one red and one green (tomatillo based, think salsa verde). They, oddly enough, also offer a lot of non-Mexican dishes, most of which that we've tried are pretty good, which is great since a restaurant around here of any decent caliber is scarce. You can sit outside or inside, and watch trains, they have two TV's at opposite corners. Their menu selection is large, which is a big plus in my book. Nachos are fantastic, and not the pile o' chips garbage more common. Queso is bueno as well. Overall their dishes I would say are tier 3.5 out of 5, 5 being Papasitos or Unclie Julio's Rio Grande Cafe level. It's you average *Texas* Mexican fare, which is a cut above run of the mill you find scattered around the U.S. Staff is the only drawback here. They range from polite and helpful to looking worse for wear and uncommunicative. Next time I'm out here I'll try to snap some better photos for this page. read more

This place has the best mexican food around. I don't live close at all, my family and I go and visit my grandma on weekeneds. When we go and visit we always make sure to stop and get some grub! I tend to get chicken enchiladas with rice and beans, they have always been amazing! Today I actually ventured to get something a tad diffrent. I ended up getting 2 chicken enchiladas, chile con queso puff, quacamole, and a beef taco. Boy was it good, I've haven't been disappointed yet! I love that the quacamole is chunky and doesn't have tomatoes in it! It's a family ran business and the staff is usually very friendly. This place is great if your a endless food vacuum like me. The proportions are big (which is great) and pretty well priced. Although the serivce is just so so, the food is so good. We need some Mexican food like this in Cypress. read more

The food isn't good, the service isn't good and you'd figure in a tiny town such as Wallis this place would be a breath of fresh air, unfortunately all standards fall low. Okay. The one star is not regarding the food, but rather the service or lack thereof. I have eaten here three times and I have not had a complaint regarding the food. It's not extraordinary, but it is good and consistent. No, the real problem here is the service. All three times I have had issues with the service. The last time was the breaking point. We placed our order to an uninterested waiter who gave the impression of not being able to speak very good English. He watched the soap opera on the TV while pretending to take my order. Then he debated me on an item on their menu without even looking at it. I had to show him specifically what I was talking about and when he realized his error he wouldn't look at me he went right back to the TV. While our order is being made he makes his way back out to take the order of the table next to us. He was like Jekyll and Hyde. Extremely nice and pleasant to the couple and helpful with the menu. They spoke Spanish to each other, but I am not sure if that was the reason for the change in demeanor or not. Part of our order comes out and he still got the item he debated me about wrong. We sucked it up and told him that we would eat it because we didn't want to waste the food. He didn't even apologize just a shrug of the shoulders and he was off. I watched as my family seemed to enjoy the food and I patiently waited for my entree. Trying to be patient I finally was able to flag down one of the other waiters as my waiter seemed to vanish. He went to the back after he brought out my families food and never returned to the floor. I asked the new waiter about my food and he apologetically went to the back to check on it. He returned to the floor and I thought I would get an update, but he avoided eye contact and served his tables. Starting to grow a bit frustrated I flagged down another waiter. He went to check also and came back to the floor and signaled to me with his hands that it would be "a little bit". At this point my family was just about finished with their entrees and we were about to start to leave when the original waiter dashes out of the kitchen just as we are about to stand up. Now he is apologetic and very sorry. We sit back down and I eat my food since by this time I am starving. I hurriedly eat and we go to the front to pay for our meal. The cashier had been staring at us the whole time. Obviously the waiter since taking our order was complaining to the staff and then after his mistake everyone was painfully aware of the situation which really didn't help the experience at all. The cashier not once apologized for the inconvenience or anything. Not a thank you either for our business. Just avoided eye contact took our money and that was all. AS I was finishing paying for our food my wife returned form the bathroom and asked is she said anything regarding our experience. I told her that she wouldn't look at me and didn't say a word not even a thank you. My wife asked to see a manager to talk about our experience and the girl irritated by our request went to the back apparently to get the manager. When she returns she brings back a dish washer. Talk about adding insult to injury. The dish washer looks as confused as we do and of course speaks no English. Well I guess I look like a Gringo because after I initially asked him a question in English and he couldn't respond I switched to Spanish and freaked out the cashier. She literally shoved the guy to the back and then I started to get answers. She gave me a business card and a phone number to the owner and started apologizing and back tracking. I asked her why she would insult me like that and bring out the dish washer that spoke no English and her only response was sorry. At this point I am irate and decide to leave because I may say something I will later regret. I called the owner and left a couple of messages, but never got a response. Who knows if it is even a legitimate number, but you will never see me here again. read more
