My wife and I have been coming here for Fajitas for 2 years so this is not an off the cuff "I'm mad" review. The food quality has been going down over the last 3-4 months but last night there was no seasoning on any of the meat. My wife's chicken fajitas looked like 3 or 4 servings on the plate but was almost nothing but green peppers. I had the Texas Fajitas and had very few peppers and no onions at all. The shrimp was severely overcooked. The attention to detail was definitely lacking last night. Hopefully they get their "poop in a group" so we don't have to leave town for Fajitas! read more

I typically don't write reviews, but this restaurant was unprofessional. This was my first time there, and I will not be back to this establishment. The food was very poor for the price. Our waiter would not acknowledge my girlfriend unless it was to take her order. The Illinois card fee is supposed to be 3.25%, but that is not what they're doing there. Originally, our bill came out to $41.08 after tax, but there was a card option for $47.34 and a cash option for $45.97. Why are they charging an extra fee for cash? Anyway, 3.25% of $41.08 comes out to $1.35, so my total should have been $42.42. Instead, I was charged $47.34. I chose to leave instead of arguing with the staff member. After leaving, I did the calculations and realized they charged me a 15.25% card fee. I never carry cash, so I used my card. When I asked about the markup, I was denied an answer and kept getting cut off while trying to speak. The employee I spoke with kept saying, "it's just a few bucks," over and over again. Don't understand why some lackluster reviews but I thought it was exceptional! I'm from Texas and appreciate good Mexican food. I had the Nachos Texanos and it was fantastic. Loaded with chicken beef and shrimp meat and a gooey white cheese sauce. I will definitely be back!!! read more

I have read some of the reviews and I have always had a decent experience at las palmas. Sometimes a little communication issue but always friendly staff. Value for money is always good! If I have two suggestion they should bring out small plates when you bring out the chips and salsa and more substance to the salsa. Certainly would recommend and I will be back soon. read more

We were there for a birthday get together with a very large group in the backroom. There is an area to eat outside in a fenced in area. The 2 servers we had were outstanding. They kept up magnificently with everyone's wants. The drinks were served right away along with chips and a very tasty salsa and the food was all served hot and fresh. The restrooms were clean and accessible to all. We were there in the evening so the parking was plentiful however I am not sure that would be the case if it was in the middle of the day when all the othere businesses were open. We used to love this place. My son took us there for Mother's Day. I ordered my favorite Dixon Burrito. It was definately not the same. There was a red sauce spread over it with some white cheese mixed in, not very tasty.The pork fajitas had àlot of onions and very little pork. The other 2 meals were marginal. I used to love this place. It was our go too. Over the years it has gone down. I recently attended this restaurant. I say attend cause we were here for over a 3 hour period waiting for food and drinks for our party. So I feel part of the restaurant by now right? Over this time I used the restroom and can say. I would have been safer with just hand sanitizer. Please clean. I don't feel pride leaving reviews like this. Some people get a high off it. Myself, I really hope the establishment can upgrade and change for the better. As soon as we got our food we asked for the check. It took over 45 minutes after asking that we received our check. The food was about a 4 out of 10 and half our orders being cold. The check came then my wife noticed that the prices on our orders and drinks were off by a few dollars or two. FOOD: The food was very typical Mexican fair, made fresh, the three of us each had something different and all three of us liked what we ordered. 8 of 10 SERVICE: The service was good, One problem I always have at authentic Mexican restaurants, it's hard to communicate with the staff. For some reason I am in love with Los Palmas. You feel like you're walking into a Disney cartoon with all the over the top colors and decor, but it makes it so much fun and you find yourself in a good mood when you sit down. The menu is a little overwhelming and could be simplified a bit, but if variety is what you're after then this is the place for you. The food is great and I have yet to be disappointed since I try to order something different every time I visit. The staff always has a smile on the faces and make you feel that they are genuinely grateful to have you there. The drinks are mixed well and, again, a lot of fun. Overall this is probably the best place to have a fun date or family dinner in the area. You can never go wrong with their three taco platter and a margarita. read more

The place wasn't busy - you guys were understaffed. Point blank for a "slow" night. If you want a well oiled machine you need the assembly line. Also the girl who was working didn't know the difference between the the two different dos XX you had on tap. The two servers that we think we had?... Didn't know how to work together because I think the other thought the other had it. They forgot our shots & guacamole after we asked for them THREE times and we didn't get them until we got our meal. It's like we were bothering them being there. They looked unhappy that we were spending our money here. This screams a problem in management. The severs were working blindly in hopes to make cash and finish the night. A manager should have been there to 1) orchestrate the server's sections 2) put out fires like this I.E. comp apps or accommodate the guests when things out of the guests control happen so they can leave happy so they can spread the word. Unbelievable. We were the only people there for pick-up and the man working was incompetent. He wouldn't give us the food after we paid and showed various forms of identification. This place had wonderful service at one time, but this time I experienced the total opposite. The waiter who took care of us was very rude. Not pleasant at all. We ordered piña coladas assuming they would be home-made. We discovered they are piña colada mixer blend. When we tried to explain he right away got frustrated with us. Not being very nice and being very sarcastic he said, let me know when you're ready to order. It was at that point that I told my friend, I don't feel like eating here. I've came here before and they've been awesome. I said to my friend, "sorry I brought you here, let's leave and find somewhere else to eat." He came after us stating we had to pay for our drinks that we barely touched and were unsatisfied with. He said he was going call the police. When I asked for a manager, he stated he was the manager. When Fiesta Cancun opened up in Dixon, I said to the Dude, "We should check that place out." After hearing about their gargantuan margaritas, I said, "We should REALLY check that place out." Last Saturday, we finally got our butts in gear and checked it out (thanks, Mom and Dad, for suggesting Mexican for dinner!). I had heard mixed reviews of Fiesta Cancun, but after eating there, I think the people who gave it negative reviews are more accustomed to the "Mexican" food that comes from Taco Bell. All four of us loved our meals. I ordered the #17 combo platter, which came with a bean flauta, taco and stuffed poblano chile. The chile, which I typically love everywhere I order them, was actually my least favorite item on the plate because the cheese was a bit too creamy for my taste and I wasn't thrilled with the sauce that covered it. The Dude had one on his plate and loved it, though, so I think this is just a personal preference. My taco and flauta were excellent! The Dude had a vegetarian platter and scarfed it down. My parents each had fajitas and had enough leftovers to be eating them for days. Oh, be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to select a meal - the menu is HUGE. The margaritas were delicious and a great value. The jumbo size was on special for a little over $5. When they say jumbo, they're not kidding. I usually order two margaritas over dinner, but having more than one of these (for me, anyway) probably would have led to me wearing a sombrero and serenading the dining room. I'd love to go back and try out the pitchers of margaritas...with a group of friends. The service was excellent as well. From the woman who seated us to the owners, everyone we spoke with was very friendly. A BIG plus in my book! The decor is also really cute and festive. I loved the brightly colored tables and chairs. We were headed to Chicago and decided to take a driving break for dinner and chose to treat ourselves to something better than fast food! We were so pleasantly surprised to not only be in the birthplace of president Ronald Raegan, but also home of some of the tastiest Mexican food we've had in a long time. This is close by the highway exit and worth the extra time to enjoy a delicious meal. The decor is a bit exuberant, but it made me happy! The menu is huge; I'd bet it is all good though. I had the El Mejor which was a combo plate of a beef burrito, chile relleno, and a bean tostada. Everything was traditional, flavorful and huge portions. Probably the best chile relleno I've ever tasted. My hubby enjoyed the quesadilla grande - another fabulous choice. The bacon and grilled onions sent this over the top in flavor. The cheese sauce was white, creamy, authentic and delicious. Nothing here was average as far as the food. Definitely 5 stars for the food. Our service was acceptable, considering it was a holiday weekend and they were not staffed for the crowd they had. My only concern (that took away a star) was my visit to the ladies room. No hand soap! Ugh, that means that the female employees didn't have clean hands, double ugh! The only good news on that front is that I didn't see any female employees. I'm praying that the cook was a male (and that they had soap in the men's restroom)! read more

We were en route from Galena to Normal, IL, and stopped here for lunch. It was an unexpected pleasure to walk into this strip-mall location and find the authentic hand-painted furnishings and many festive decorative touches everywhere. It was cool and comfortable on this warm summer day. The friendly waiter brought us the most delicious homemade salsa we've had in ages. No kidding, this salsa was amazing! The chips were crisp and warm, freshly made too. With that kind of opening, we expected an amazing meal, but while it was OK, it wasn't anywhere hear the level of that salsa. My husband had chili rellenos, and said they were all right, but they were smothered in a very average red sauce, and too much of it. I had vegetable fajitas, which I liked pretty well. The menu had a great many choices for us vegetarians. Next time in Dixon, I know we'd return. The salsa was worth the whole meal, and the meal itself was pretty good! read more

First of all, this restaurant was renamed to Las Palmas years ago. I enjoyed the food here three times before but tonight was a horrible experience. I ordered three tamales from the à la carte menu but was only served one. The waitress had to order up two more and it took at least 10 minutes for them to arrive at the table. They actually tasted pretty good, but they are the only tamales I have ever had that were served with a red sauce and cheese on top and no cornhusk on them. My wife got beef tacos with rice and beans but said she just couldn't find any flavor in it. When I got the bill, I noticed that two of the four items that we were billed for had the wrong price. The à la carte three beef tacos that I ordered for my daughter should have been 4.75 but they charged us $6. They explained that the à la carte tacos are crispy tacos and that we got soft tacos so they cost more. That is fine, but the menu only said beef tacos. There was no mention of them being crispy or the fact that soft tacos cost more. In fact, the waiter even asked me if I wanted soft or hard shell tacos when I ordered à la carte tacos. You would think he would have explained the difference but he did not. The waitress did adjust the bill as she should have to the lower price. She also adjusted the price for my tamales because they charged me an extra $.25 for them. Overall, the staff was friendly until I asked them to adjust my bill. The woman taking my money seem annoyed. I do not think I will eat at Las Palmas again. read more

The resturaunt was cute and very festive, if you're going to have drinks we noticed that they have a very cheap bar. However, the food and service was awful. I like Mexican food, not the fake gross stuff at taco bellow whatever but this was really awful. I had a Tao salad with chicken in it, nothing given to me was freshly prepared, my salad was dripping with grease and the chicken tasted as if it came out of a can. The lettuce that I was given looked pathetic and the sour cream was more like milk. I even had a waited come up to me and ask if it tasted alright because that wasn't what the salad normally looked like. The tacos that my boyfriend ordered had maybe a spoonful of meat on each of them and were served on taco shells that looked like they had come out of a box and to make it even better the "heaping portion of rice and beans " was not heaping at all. For an awful taco salad, two tacos and a pop (I had water) we paid $26. I definately did not leave a tip. Our waiter was rude and Didn't come back to check on us.
