I pulled up and noticed the Texas landmark. Samuel Rhoads Fisher built this home for his family in 1832. Such a beautiful house and cool that they reused all the original items as they can. Lots of photos of the past. If you enjoy history or appreciate it you will love this place. Peggy and Rik were wonderful hosts. I felt like home here and they made sure everyone was comfortable. Peggy gave us a tour of the house along with the history. Amazing stuff here!!! I love how each room had a theme and she was very detailed in her decorations. We stayed upstairs in room 3. The room was cozy and the bathroom was very clean. Love the little touches to the message and booklets in the room to help you enjoy the area. They even made a home cooked meal for breakfast. My impression of the management and owner has declined since I moved in. I would be lying if I said that there wasn't a laundry list of issues with this property - faulty water lines, power wanes if there is a strong storm, various Rodentia (field mice) throughout several of their rental homes and trailers - the list goes on. I have had a dishwasher, vent hood and oven that has never worked- and will not be repaired by the MGMT; I also had mold issues because the builders did not seal my bathroom properly. When I ask the owner about a timeline for repairs- Paras always differs me to his property manager. Furthermore, the Property Manager's response is "Just move, if you don't like it". Recently, they have began to let tenants into their rental properties who perpetually smoke cigarettes and other harmful substances - substances to which others breathe second-hand. Now I am being evicted because I speak out against not wanting to breathe smoke.. Oh yeah.. I also pay 1100$ a month to breathe that smoke and deal with substandard management. ANY ONE TRYING TO GAIN PROPERTY HERE BEWARE!

All you need is to buy the annual pass at any store for $10. We got our pass from the visitor center and the gas station nearby also sells them. There are part of the beach that has soft sand, so a 4wheel drive would nice but not necessary. Bring a shovel incase you get stuck. Also, no bathroom by the beach and the closest one I saw was by the visitor center. There is an RV park next to the visitor center if you plan stay longer and comfortable. It's a 3.5 hr drive from Killeen which is way closer than San Padre and get the same experience. Will definitely take the kiddos for camping when the weather cools off and hurricane season is over.

We initially planned a trip here to camp of the beach and once we arrived, we discovered that…read moregetting an RV on the beach here is impossible, even though other online sites recommend it, you heard the truth here on Yelp... it's nearly impossible to pull an RV onto the beach without risking getting stuck in the sand of the entrance. They do allow you to overnight camp in the parking lot area. And there is a campground (for a fee) that is basically the same thing, but with water and electric hookups. We came expecting to boondock, so we had our own power and a full water tank, so the parking lot area was fine for us. There was one other RV in the same area, so we weren't the only ones and it definitely wasn't crowded. The beach area here runs along the Colorado River. The one lane entry point to the beach area from the parking lot has soft sand. It seems like a lot of the sand was placed there to deter people from driving onto the beach area. Once you reach the beach, the sand is solid and can easily withstand an RV. It's all in that entry point that made it iffy and we just didn't risk driving across, getting stuck and blocking in all of the people who were already parked there, on the beach just before sundown. The most amazing thing about the park is the view of the Colorado River, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. I'm not sure what they call it, but there are huge square boulders placed as a dam of sorts. I walked all the way to the end right at sunset and watched the waves crash from the ocean onto the pier area, into the river. It was one most memorable moments of my entire two week road trip. The park itself has several covered pavilion/picnic areas. Each has a picnic table and a trash can. There is another pier area to the left of the park, I didn't walk along that way. Also, there is Matagorda Beach about a mile up the road. There you have access to the Atlantic Ocean, but you have to have a parking pass and it was super crowded. Here, at Jetty Park, you don't have to have a parking pass. There's also a nature center in the same parking lot area. It also has a gift shop. The attendant lady was super nice and informative about the area... she was the one who told me that I would need a parking pass to go to Matagorda Beach and that the closest place to purchase a parking pass was at Stanleys Grocery, just before the bridge.

We needed an escape from the house after months of quarantining but didn't want to go somewhere jam packed with people, you know, doing that whole social distancing thing. I'm glad I found this place online. We got a nice spot that backed right up to the boat marina, though we didn't catch many fish in that spot it did make for a nice view. I liked how quiet the entire area was and how well kept the grounds were. Plenty of grassy areas for the dogs to walk and there were a couple poop stations that were conveniently located too. All in all, a great location and we definitely have plans to return. Thanks for the peaceful escape from our unfortunate new norm due to Covid.

You can tell they designed this place to fit as many RVs in as humanly possible to maximize profit. No privacy, no room to park your tow vehicle. Management is rude. When reserving our spot on the phone, the lady acted like she could care less if we stayed there and seemed bothered that she had to deal with me. This should have tipped me off that we should stay elsewhere. On our last morning, we get a loud pounding on our camper door. An employee rudely informs us that I was speeding through the parking area. First off, The speed limit he informed me is 7mph. The parking area is rutted and very bumpy. Going any faster would be incredibly uncomfortable. High points... there is a lighted fishing pier. It's only large enough for a few people though, so good luck getting on there if it's busy. We won't be back.

The food is AWFUL! Our kids were complaining and hungry. The facilities were not nice at all, two…read moreof our girl dorms had broken toilets for days before getting them fixed and our boys had broken water fountains. The staff was also very slow and not attentive to the water stations. We had many students come down with heat exhaustion because they weren't refilling the water enough. They didn't properly staff the water activities so the lines were super long and our students didn't get to do things. There also is not a lot to do on the campus, our students got very bored. Overall an awful experience with camp staff being rude and not very hospitable. I will definitely never return and encourage other groups to not attend.

Friendly welcome in a clean open architecture place replete with a touch tank for fish and juvenile Blue crabs and education station w labeled skeleton remains and sea shells. Some items in display are touch by seeing only, but well posted. Parents, take advantage of this little gem, the welcome center, for your group of little learners (see chalkboard photo of activities). Joyful children skipped along. Staff says enjoy your stay here! But please only swim in the river. Consistently many deaths / drownings beachside in the gulf due to strong rip tides. A cautionary tale, signs are posted but ignored at your own risk. Death aside, the park is a beautiful place to explore. There's a mini put put golf steps outside the welcome center. What a nice treat. Need Caffeinating? The Welcome Center has coffee, some snacks for sale. It also has a bathroom! Oh! and gift shop, but sadly I didn't venture in due to my time schedule, but the gift shop looked inviting. Staff encountered are friendly and knowledgeable. So come on in get out of the hot Texas sun! Expand the enjoyment of your stay at the Gulf or the Colorado River by cooling off and planning and appreciating the uniqueness of this special park . You will leave richer, and knowledgable.
