The Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral. It was built as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus, during the reign of the Almohad dynasty, with a Renaissance-style belfry added by the Catholics after the expulsion of the Muslims from the area. The Cathedral, including the Giralda, was registered in 1987 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the Alcázar and the General Archive of the Indies. It remains one of the most important symbols of the city, as it has been since the Middle Ages. The tower is one of the most famous monuments of Moorish architecture in Spain and one of the most refined examples of Almohad architecture. There's a weather vane all the way on the top that moves only with very heavy winds....LOL.... Beautiful at night...all lit up....

Highly recommend climbing to the top to get the most amazing 360 view of Seville. They don't have stairs - instead it's a paved incline that have 35 ramps and then a few stairs at the top ... each floor is marked so you can see your progress. It's not an easy climb - the windows along the way is a great place to catch your breath :) I read that the ramps were built to allow the Sultan to ascend mounted on horseback to see the beautiful view. Your entrance fee to the Seville Cathedral includes the bell tower. Oh, and be warned when the bell towers ring, they are super loud - like I thought I might have gone deaf, lol. I visited during the winter so it was cool inside but during the summer, I heard it gets hot & stuffy ... one of the reviews recommended visiting first thing in the morning.

One enters Santa Caridad through a quiet tiled courtyard (stop to look at the seven Dutch panels,…read moreeach representing a Biblical scene, and at the two marble fountains representing Faith and Charity) and if one walks to the left, through the tiny gift shop, one enters the most majestic space I've seen in Sevilla, the baroque church (see attached photo). Since this is slightly off the tourist trail-- though one does see tour groups pass through-- be prepared to request an audio guide (they offer it in six languages). The guard will give you both a guide and a sheet of paper that indicates what the guide covers-- unlike many of the audio guides in other Sevillan sites, this one is particularly good, and offers rich historical context situating Santa Caridad in the moment it was constructed. Cost: 5E/person.

There's no excuse not to visit given that the museum is free on Monday's! So if you're in town…read morethen, pay it a visit and enjoy some views of Triana across the bridge and the river. Just down the street is a recreation of a ship that supposedly completed the first trip around the world so going the extra mile coming down to this neighborhood is definitely worth the trip to experience a different side of Seville. There was so much going on in the Plaza that it's well worth a stop…read more The Plaza was maintained long after the 1929 Iberian-American Exhibition wrapped up and fun to explore. We especially enjoyed seeing the different details and content represented in the 52 provincial alcoves. We crisscrossed the canal as we watched rental boats paddle by, horse drawn carriages picked up and dropped off in plaza and the flamenco dancers, musicians and bubble makers. The short walk up to the second floor also provided another perspective to take it all in. Definitely one of the must sees while visiting Seville.

While at the Alcazar Palace waiting to be picked up by the tour bus, Las Setas was only 15 minutes away. Using the Google map, hurried thru the maze of people and stores, it was amazing to see this scene. I did not get a chance to visit the Roman ruins, fig tree or roof top walk way. The lighting at night was a bit underwhelming as it seemed like some of the bulbs needed to be replaced? An archeological museum, Antiquarium, was located underneath which contained Roman ruins, mosaics and it was free to enter by showing your Alcázar ticket. At the ground level were restaurants but we did not enter. One level up was the more popular spot with the "I Sevilla" which attracted more people than we saw walking above on Las Setas. There was an admission to walk on the parasol but due to the rain and overcast weather we skipped it. Overall quick stop if you're visiting this area of Seville.
