It is hard to put into words how much my husband and I appreciate Christina. I utilized Latch onto Health (specifically Christina) for Doula and lactation services during my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. The goal was a 'natural' birth with no epidural, but I was not writing off the epidural because it was my first birth, and I had no idea how I would feel once labor started. Christina completely reshaped my mindset around birth from being a medicalized 'scary' event to a normal physiological human process. She provided helpful resources to prepare my body and mind for birth. Now, to get into the birth - long story short, I started to show signs of labor and texted Christina. My labor started progressing very quickly, and she immediately headed to my house. When she arrived, I decided it was time to go to the hospital, but my contractions made it hard to move quickly. It took me an hour to get from my kitchen, through the garage, to the driveway. Christina remained calm, collected, and supportive the entire time. She was not rushing me or pushing me to get in the car faster, she was letting my body do what it needed to do. I told her I needed to push (while on my hands and knees in the driveway), and she said we could still make it to the hospital (I lived 8 minutes from the hospital), but if I felt more comfortable staying home, she felt confident that between her and my husband, it would all be okay. I am not generally a calm person, but I felt oddly calm and at peace with the situation. I attribute this to her calm demeanor during the birth and the resources she gave me (Gentlebirth - affirmation and meditation) preparing me for birth. I crawled back into the garage and, about 45 minutes later, gave birth to my healthy baby girl on the garage floor. I even waited to call EMS until after the birth because I felt so confident that I did not want any interruptions during the pushing phase of labor. It was the most incredible experience of my life. I always wanted a home birth, but I never had the 'guts' to make that decision on my own. It was a dream that came true by the grace of God, and I believe Christina was put in my path for that reason. Christina took pictures throughout the entire process, which I will cherish and tell the story forever. Postpartum, she was incredibly helpful. I prepared a lot physically and mentally for pregnancy and birth, and sort of assumed that postpartum would come naturally; well, that wasn't really the case. Pregnancy and birth are such a profoundly personal experience, and medical providers, unfortunately, don't often have the bandwidth to provide individualized care and attention. In the traditional medical system, you don't have someone you can text with a question, which, as a first-time mom, I had a million questions.  I never felt like I was a burden or a bother to her. Now weeks later, she still texts me to see how I am doing. Lactation services - once my milk came in, my baby stopped latching because my breasts were so round and engorged. She helped me navigate exclusively pumping and bottle feeding, all while continuing to work on breastfeeding. I can now happily say I am back to exclusively breastfeeding, even without a nipple shield! Long review to say, I highly recommend Latch onto Health :) read more

Christina was the first ever doula I'd had. She provided a plethora of information prior to me going into labor, which was super helpful. She was available practically 24/7 via text or call if needed. She answered any question I had and would send additional information to help me do my own research as well. I labored at home while providing her updates via phone. She was able to judge when it was time for her to come help by listening to me breathe through contractions (or try to). Once she arrived, I felt the shift in energy in my home. She brought calm to the chaos. She knew exactly what I needed without me knowing what I needed or how to verbalize it. My birth experience in the hospital was borderline traumatic, but once again, she brought the calm. (She keeps it in her pocket I think.) I couldn't have made the informed decisions I did without the knowledge and confidence she gave me. I would not have been able to stand my ground with the providers pushing me to get a c section without her support. I would not have been able to deliver my son vaginally if I didn't have her backing me up. I deviated from my birth plan to have an epidural, and Christina passed no judgement at any time. She stayed supportive even when the plans changed. She gave factual and unbiased information anytime I asked a question in regard to risks the doctors were listing. The providers were stressing me out, she knew I needed to eat and rest. She pushed for that. She's the only reason I got any reprieve in the hospital. They wouldn't listen to her at first, when she suggested positions to put me in or that I was diabetic and needed to eat something or that I needed to rest so labor could progress. And once the things she suggested were implemented, my labor progressed and my son was born. I cannot express enough gratitude for her services during the most stressful birth experience I've had in a hospital yet. This was my third child in the same hospital I'd had the other two, but the first time I was not 100% compliant with what the doctors were telling me to do. Christina is the perfect advocate for any mama, especially if you want to listen to your body and follow what nature has built you to be capable of instead of just following doctor's orders blindly. She is a true girls girl. Professional and Resourceful. Compassionate and Steady. Exactly who any laboring mother needs in their corner. read more

Christina is exceptional!!! My baby girl was born premature at 34 weeks by emergency c section because I was bleeding from placenta previa. As a result, her breathing had to be closely monitored in the NICU for nearly 1 week so she was bottle-fed my colostrum and breast milk. As a result, I became an expert breast pumper, and tried multiple times in the NICU and at home to latch her on. After multiple failed attempts, I cried to my cousins who were breastfeeding moms, they led me to YouTube videos and I finally got her to latch on. However, my letdown was heavy and she would cough and choke on the milk. Combining her fits with mommy exhaustion, I gave up and returned to pumping, thinking that my ship had sailed and there was no turning back. After exhaustion set in from the double work of pumping and feeding, I gave in and decided to seek out a lactation consultant. Christina was an answered prayer! I told her my woes, and I thought she'd say it was impossible for my daughter to return to breastfeeding; however, she said my troubles with breastfeeding were "easy to overcome". After some telephone and FaceTime consults, within 2-3 days my daughter was nursing like a pro and looking forward to breastfeeding more than bottle feeding . We had the absolute pleasure of working with Christina for the birth of our second child, and I can confidently say that she made all the difference in the world. I can't really say enough about Christina as my doula. She made herself available to me 24/7, and always worked around our schedules to make sure we were able to meet. She put me in touch with so many great resources, including books, nearby classes, placenta encapsulation, and my counselor who I absolutely loved and continued to see during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. She answered any and every question I had, and made sure I was prepared for my birth and executing our birth plan. She not only made sure we had back-up doulas in place, but she arranged so we could meet with them and feel comfortable just in case. I can't say enough what a calming presence she during my 55-hour labor, 19 of which were spent at the birth center. She and I were in constant contact from the moment I went into labor. She came to check in on us and bring us dinner after Lucy was born and showed us how to properly use our Maya wrap and Tula carriers, and she started a Meal Train for our friends and family to easily help out. We are still in touch and she gets regular updates on my Lucy. Christina's knowledge and involvement in the birth & baby community is unparalleled and I cannot recommend her enough. There is a particular type of person that you want by your side when life gets hectic. You don't want a wishy washy lawyer who says, "we'll do what we can do and see what happens." No! You want the person who is confident, knowledgeable, and one who has an unwavering winning attitude. What about a pilot? Do you want the person who freaks out in an emergency because they are inexperienced? Or do you want the pilot who comes over the intercom to say, "Don't worry folks, I've seen this before and we will all be fine."? Christina from day one showed me that she is the type of person that will win and knows it! Every time she came to see us, she was overflowing with knowledge and advice because of how diligent she is about educating herself. That's who I wanted by my wife's side! Because of how prepared we were due to all she sowed into us, my wife was able to have an unmediated home birth in about 4 hours with no medical supervision other than Christina's wealth of knowledge. Through weeks of prodromal labor, she was always just a text or phone call away, reminding me to trust my body and giving me the strength I needed to keep going. Christina was extremely helpful in providing resources for pregnancy, labor, birth, and breastfeeding. She was always available during my pregnancy to answer any questions and was extremely attentive to every text and call as my due date neared. However, Christina's most valuable quality was how she helped me through labor and birth. Although my birth plan did not go exactly to plan because I was induced, Christina's knowledge, tools, and guidance throughout my labor allowed me to birth my son without an epidural as I had originally wanted. Her energy helped keep me calm but still empowered while I was at my most vulnerable. She was able to guide my husband on how to support me when I was in pain which helped my husband and I bond during such an intimate time, and she knew when to recommend changing positions or work with us to discuss our options at each step in the labor process. I absolutely LOVED the float session with Latch onto Health. It was such a laid-back, relaxing experience, on a beautiful morning, with birds fluttering about, in a beautiful pool, with beautiful women. I am not pregnant, but even my five-time birthing hips and back felt relaxed floating with my belly down on the nifty floats, made especially for pregnant women to lay belly down on for relief in their backs and legs! With Esprit Oree soaking us in a calming sound bath, after some breath work, along with the sounds of nature, I was feeling more relaxed than I have in a long long time being a busy Mother to five wild and creative kids. I left with a full heart and hope for building the community I have been lacking over the past few years. Christina is awesome! We cannot thank her enough! She was our doula for the birth of our daughter. This was my first birth and I was very nervous. She has such a calming effect which is exactly what I needed. She met with us three times before the birth and even attended a tour of the hospital with me. She is so informative. I was stressed when I was unable to attend a birthing class but Christina was there to give me all the education I needed. She helped prepare me for every step of labor and helped me create my birth plan. And when things did not go as planned, she was right there next to me, reassuring and comforting me. My husband and I cannot say enough good things about Christina and all the woman in the LOH world. From prenatal classes (lactation & baby care & baby wearing) my husband and i felt so prepared and supported through our prenatal process and labor and delivery. I ended up having a 67 hour long labor, that ended in an unmedicated vaginal delivery all because Christina taught my husband and i how to advocate for ourselves and made sure we were educated. She also came to help advocate right there by my side for me and what i thought was best for my baby. In the days after my birth, she also came to help support breastfeeding and any postpartum questions I had. She's the sole reason why me and my daughter have such an awesome breastfeeding journey now that she's 4 months old. Christina was truly an angel for our labor and delivery experience! I would not have met my birth goals for delivering our precious little one without her. Christina served as our doula and was well-worth the investment. Her knowledge, advice, and experience was reassuring for us as first time parents. My husband is a researcher so her evidence-based approach was appreciated. When our birth turned out differently than we hoped, Christina was right there with us talking us through our options. She even held my hand during my unexpected c-section. My husband says, "it was great having her at the birth. It made me feel not so guilty about shutting my eyes for a quick nap." Christina is absolutely amazing! She exudes a calming energy and has been an incredible support for me during this third trimester. I discovered her through the Charleston Girl's group, and I'm so grateful I decided to connect with her. During our initial phone call, I felt overwhelmed after learning that my baby was breech and at risk for a C-section. Christina reassured me and explained the various options available before considering that path. This past weekend, we had a float session where she introduced me to some stretches and inversions to help turn the baby. Christina was an overlooked advantage in my prenatal, delivery and postpartum journey. Having private appointments on a calendar with topics to discuss and homework to tackle pushed me and my husband toward empowering ourselves with knowledge that removed fears and apprehension that most people take on as "just part of it". As one example, she encouraged body work during pregnancy and suggested I get evaluated by a chiropractor, which I was somewhat interested in doing but would never have initiated for myself.
