The response came back like thunder and lightning, :Wait until am finished before you ask any questions," He sounded angry. A face and a tone of voice like, "How dare you talk to me?" I looked and my wife and she to me. We kept silent. He said a few more words. We said, "Thank you, very much," and we left, knowing that we would never go back to this pompous, arrogant eye-god, the Zeus of eye care in The Villages area.

He'd been through all the pre-screening and was determined to be a good candidate. We paid cash for the right lens ahead of time. We arrived :30 minutes early for the appointment and they called him back :30 minutes late. So by this time, we'd already been at the surgery center 1 hour. Long and the short, is the anesthesiologist cancelled the surgery because he deemed my husband's BP to be "too high". He never told him the reading nor did they offer options. We aren't sure if the ophthalmologist was consulted or not. As the patient, he is entitled to this information. My husband is a diabetic, and his hypertension is controlled by meds. They went over all this is pre-op appointments and they said "don't worry about your BP". They didn't offer options today (like wait for it to go down) or add a benzo to relax him. They just cancelled him and sent him on his way. Very unprofessional. I was not consulted at all and was sitting in the waiting room. Now we are out the $4300 cash for the lens that will not be implanted. I've been trying to reach their office for 2:30 and cannot reach anyone. When we got home my husband's BP was 124/81. Either their BP cuff was wrong or it was a simple case of white coat syndrome. Whatever the case, we will be taking our commercial Aetna insurance and going elsewhere.

They told me they would call me each month until the surgery was scheduled. They never called and each month I called them only to hear the same story each month. Even though I was told that I was on top of their list to get my surgery as of today it still has not been done and no schedule to so has occurred. The person whom I am talking with says the same thing each month--call us back and we will schedule your surgery. Last week she told me they would not even be able to schedule me until March if even then. There is no end in sight!!!

I have been going to him now for almost two years and would not trust my eyes with anyone else. The office staff treat you with respect and compassion and Dr Mames takes his time with you and explains everything. Because of my diagnosis, I have to receive injections in my eye.
