Vegan Carne en salsa, sweet plantains, fried plantains, Mexican chickpea salad, and green salad.

As I had some business to attend to in the area, I stumbled upon Latin Port Eats. I ordered their medium plate and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions provided by the lovely ladies. My order consisted of vegan carne en salsa, fried plantains, sweet plantains, chickpea salad, and a green salad. Latin Port has quickly become a favorite restaurant for me. This "cafeteria" style eatery, with its vibrant and inviting interior, offers a hidden gem in the culinary landscape. Each dish is prepared with care and precision. The customer service is exceptional, and the pride taken in these dishes is evident in every bite. The well-crafted flavors and thoughtful preparation make each dish a delight for the senses. In addition to its impressive meat-eaters, Latin Port also caters to vegan and vegetarian options with a range of traditional Latin dishes. They also offer a free fixings bar but their food is so exceptional, I found myself not needing any additional fixings. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant's location in a strip mall near Whole Foods provides abundant and easily accessible parking.

I was really looking forward to coming here for a delicious Latin meal. Since I live in an area which does not have many Latin restaurants I was planning my visits for weeks due to distance and time constraints. I found this place in Instagram and everything looked so delicious. The idea of eating Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican, Colombian food all in the same place really had me excited. I just finished my lunch and here is what I ordered: - Pernil & Pork Ribs - Yellow Rice - Maduros - Green and Red Sauce The Pernil was flavorful but about half of my bites were very very salty which was really unfortunate. Like they put too much Sazon in a single area prior to cooking. I grew up near Union City and they have some top notch Cuban out there. This was nowhere close , 3 out of 5. The Pork Ribs were not very good , they had a weird flavor and again many bites were too salty. There were some enjoyable bites with the fat there but most Portuguese chicken places have a better pork rib, 2 out of 5. The yellow rice was nothing special , not bad but not great. 3 out of 5. Maduros are pretty easy to make but they were the best thing on my plate. Some were pretty mushy and stuck together but mostly good browning on them. 4 out of 5. Green Sauce was pretty good , seems like parsley based similar to the Brazilian burgers places in Newark such as Alta's Horas. Consistency a little thick for a "sauce" and nothing like the Peruvian green sauce. Decent. 3 out of 5. Red Sauce was supposed to be the most spicy but really was not , no flavor either. Similar to a tomato sauce with some spice. Disappointing. 1 out of 5. I got a Jarritos Mandarina but that's about all the "Latin" sodas they had. No Inca Kola, Postobon, Jupina. Was hoping to see some of these there but mostly regular sodas. They did have a few good looking juices though which I wish I tried. Overall I am disappointed due to the high expectations I had for this place and the stuff on Instagram. If I could give it a 2-1/2 I would. I did come on a Friday at 3pm so I understand it may be better during lunch or dinner time. I want to give them another shot but not sure I'll make the 45 minute trip again . If I am in the area I may come again and update my review. If you want great Colombian food go to Elizabeth, if you want great Cuban food go to Union City, if you want great Puerto Rican food go to Roselle Park or Perth Amboy and if you want great Peruvian food go to Passaic. PS: This did not factor into my review but I noticed there were 2 girls in the counter. One walked away when I was going to order and the other who helped me lacked personality. Wasn't very friendly and did not give me a run down of what was in the buffet , specials, etc. while I was eating I saw the other girl help a couple and she was much friendlier, explained the choices and upsold well.

I was looking forward to Latin food! When I arrived I parked nearby the lot in the back. I ordered the 2 protein and sides plate. I had the chicken and rice. I also had the vegan empanadas. Wow was the food filing and tasty! I also enjoyed the homemade limeade. I really loved the meal!

What a gem of a place!! So many Latin dishes to choose from and served by such a friendly staff in a great atmosphere!!!

Food is there, can make it easier to choose what you want if you're unfamiliar with the dishes on the menu

I work near Metuchen and having an authentic Latin place to go to for a quick lunch in this area is very exciting. This is "fast" homemade-quality food. I love that you can come into the restaurant and see the options. I love Latin food and I am familiar with most of the menu and still, being able to see the food added some dishes to my list that I want to try! You can order a main with 1-3 sides. The portions are very generous, I opted for large this time so that I could try more (large comes with 3 sides and honestly it was enough for 2-3 people, this is coming from a hearty eater!! My main was Lomo Saltado and it was one of the better Lomo Saltado dishes I've had! Very delicious. My sides were rice and black beans with ham- honestly I didn't really get to them, I was stuffed, so I gave it to a co worker but they seemed good and pretty standard with what you would get at any Latin establishment, the beans were of the "drier" sort, which I happen to prefer over the ones that come with a lot of liquid. The maduros were delicious and plentiful, usually they tend to get soggy in a to go box and some were but most had that slight crispness on the outer edges. Where they lose a star for me is the pupusa. I'm used to my pupusas always coming with a side of the tangy cabbage mixture to eat with it and I feel this is essential when eating pupusas. I saw on the menu they sell the mixture as a side, and I should have asked if it was something you have to order separately but it never crossed my mind because I've never had to do so. This really effected my opinion of the pupusa, which was a bit dry and in my opinion there wasn't enough cheese in it. My co-worker was trying pupusas for the first time and I was bummed she didn't get the full, flavorful experience of having the cabbage mixture with it. With that said, it was a nice size! I would suggest they start giving the mixture with the pupusa order, free of charge, as most places do. Ambience is very lunch-cafeteria style, no frills but clean, comfortable and inviting. The woman who helped us couldn't be friendlier, you could tell she was really proud of the restaurant and I wouldn't doubt she might be the owner or manager. Overall a great visit.

When one of my companions suggested visiting this Latin spot for lunch (cafeteria style), I said no. But the moment I saw the photos on Yelp, I decided to give this place a try and I am so glad I did. Home-cooked Latin food at its best. You get to choose a meat(s) and side(s) depending on which size plate you want. Each meat item offered is named from a different region in Latin America. With so many choices, you can ask for samples before deciding. When it comes to this type of cuisine, I love anything that is braised or cooked in stews. The turnover is constant as there were many patrons dining here. Here are some of the items we tried... - Costa Rican Carne en salsa - Cuban "Masitas de puerco - Dominican "Pollo Guisado" - Mexican "Tinga" (in Chipotle sauce) - Peruvian Lomo Salteado There were about 11 sides to choose from. They also have empanadas, tamales, pupusas, soups, salads, vegan options, desserts, and speciality coffee. My son and I wanted the rice pudding at the last minute but by the time we bought it to the register, the guy already finished ringing us up. He just gave it to us for free. We left a generous tip. It is the best rice pudding ever. Outdoor patio seating Plenty of parking

Small plate, rice, beans, stew chicken, baked chicken

Came here today for lunch. The place was nice and cozy. The workers were really nice in explaining the sizes of the plates and explaining all the food options. I got a small plate with white rice and beans, baked chicken and stewed chicken. I ate everything in house. The stew chicken was really good. I also tried the tres leches which was very good but a bit too sweet. All in all, this is a great affordable place to grab a hearty lunch/dinner. I would return.

We went to eat lunch here on a weekday. They serve food from Latin American countries i.e. Cuba, Peru, Mexico, Columbia. We ordered Peruvian grilled chicken and Columbian lunch with yellow rice, pork, beans and plantains. This place is like a cafeteria where you go on que and place your order. Serving staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. Place is well lighted and their decor is uniquely designed. Owner/Manager is kind and friendly.

Ordered 4 deconstructed rotis: 2 chicken and potato, a goat and a jerk chicken. 3 with paratha root and 1 with buss up shut. All were super tasty-deep and (not too) spicy flavor, really good sized portions (it gave me 3 meals) and packed nicely. substitutes for the curried potatoes that typically go along with the meal are available. I would personally get the buss up shut variety of roti or opt for the wrapped version in the future the chickpea filling was quite messy due to my error of ripping it. A very satisfying meal nonetheless. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other offerings.

I didn't see much space for huge parties but be mindful and make the reservation in advance. Went for an early dinner at around 6:00ish and was seated immediately. Service was on point. Now for the food. The seasoning was immaculate. We did try the griot app (not pictured) and it was very flavorful. The Rasta pasta dish was seasoned appropriately and provided a comfortable heat. If you are used to typical heat of pikliz then you may find the spice level was at a mild level which paired nicely with the passion 75. The drink tasted more like a spin on a mimosa but I was wish the passionfruit was from the fruit to bring in the tartness - still good. The cheesecake was pretty standard. The glaze on top balanced out the creaminess well.

We had the short rib empanadas, which were crispy and fully of meat. They were definitely the highlight of the night! The rasta pasta was good, but it came out warm and with few shrimp. The flavors were still excellent, however. The carrot cake for dessert was moist and not too sweet, which I prefer! The space was also super clean and well maintained. What really disappointed me was the service. We had a reservation, but had to wait to be seated even with plenty of open tables. That's normally not a big deal for us, but we had an event to get to tonight, so we were in more of a rush. Someone came to us to ask what water we wanted after 10 minutes of being sat, after which the hostess came back over to us to apologize that our server hasn't come over yet and asked if we would like water. Much more time passes and someone (still not our server) comes to ask us if everything is alright. We explain that no one has taken our order, which she apologized for and took our order for us. She then had to come back over because she forgot to include what protein we picked for our pasta. Finally, our server came over to us. We explained that we had already ordered. More hiccups continued throughout the night, including a long wait for the check, never being brought a dessert menu after asking, etc. I'm not one to complain about service, I just think they could be more efficient. At the time we arrived, there were only a few other tables seated in our area. It wasn't super busy, and there were a lot of people working. We overheard staff whispering about who was supposed to be taking care of us, and it still took time for someone to come over and help us. I think the staff knew we overheard or were disappointed in the service, because our dessert was free, and we received a bread basket as well. I'd love to give them another chance, just maybe not if I have plans after.
