There were two females that's seemed more interested in talking to their friends at the bar rail. there was a grumpy bearded guy that sort of didn't care, but none of them seemed to care all too much. The food was great , but got turned off by the two females that seemed to just be in a hurry to get out. this was a few days to a week ago, and maybe they had a bad day. still had some good food, but not great service by them. read more

Laughing Sun -- I guess the joke's on me. Went to celebrate Father's Day 2025 at Laughing Sun for some BBQ and a beer. I've been looking for good BBQ in Bismarck, and Laughing Sun has been recommended to me quite a bit. The place itself is really cool -- I love the big, open blues venue atmosphere. Axe throwing is a fun touch, and I appreciate that it's sectioned off so it doesn't distract if you're not into it. The line to order moved quickly, and ordering was smooth with friendly service. I got the 3-meat BBQ plate with brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. For sides, I chose mac and cheese, beans, and kettle chips. My wife ordered a half order of the BBQ nachos and a root beer. I had the Space Probe Blue, a sour -- which I really enjoyed. The ribs were great: served slightly above room temp, tender, and well-seasoned. I'm not a fan of competition-style ribs where you're expected to leave a bite mark, and thankfully these were more tender than that. Not quite "fall-off-the-bone," but a really nice middle ground. The pulled pork was solid -- moist, well-seasoned, and with noticeable smoke flavor. The brisket looked promising with a nice bark and smoke ring. But that's where the positives ended. It was the driest brisket I've ever had -- barely edible. Truly terrible. It looked old, and I'd be shocked if it hadn't been sliced the day before. I was genuinely disappointed. Brisket and burnt ends are my jam, and I just couldn't vibe with it. The "award-winning" mac and cheese was served at room temp and was mid at best. The beans were also served room temp and are supposed to include brisket -- fortunately, mine did not. I'd give the beans a 5/10. The kettle chips, though, were excellent -- crispy, well-seasoned, and easily the best side of the bunch. The BBQ nachos didn't go over well with my wife. Her main issues: the pulled pork was wet and spongy, the pico de gallo was overly watery and made everything soggy, and the use of melted cheese instead of nacho cheese didn't work. In summary: If you're after a great local beer and a fun atmosphere, this could be your spot. But if you're looking for killer BBQ executed with care, maybe do what I'm going to do -- and keep looking. read more

My first day in Bismarck was highlighted by delish BBQ ( pulled pork sandwich, rib platter, and homemade sides). We were asked to pay a cover upon entry ($10 each) and at first I was kinda meh about it, but the band playing was local and very good (well worth the cover and an extra tip!). Well....the food was good but...gah. The rest of it really made it a weird experience. You order at the counter which was 5 feet from live music that was very loud and not very good. So we went outside to decide what we wanted and my husband went back in to yell it at someone. Despite ordering at the counter and not having any kind of waitstaff you are prompted for a tip. This brought our total for ribs, brisket, two sides and a beer to $120. We went outside to wait because the music was too much. Even outside it was a lot. We saw a couple people walk up and bow out immediately. The Mac and cheese came out first. With one set of utensils. That was weird. It sat a bit then she came back with beans and brisket and two more sets of utensils. Then finally the ribs came and my husband went in looking for plates. It was all yummy. We had to take the brisket back (again and yell at the counter) because it was nothing but fat. They admitted it was the end of the brisket and didn't look great and went to get a new piece. That shouldn't have happened. We also had to go back in and ask for Togo containers. In all it was a lot of work and pretty stressful and we wouldn't go back. read more

Now we put the kids down at bed at round 8pm sherbet at 5 and we arrived to North Dakota pretty late so we got a hotel and when we put the kids down for bed we went to the bar we went to this one because of its name the laughing sun so funny .but we had a great time we were worried about our kids alone but they did great they didn't even know we left. But the alcohol was very nice I can't remember what I got but it was very very good I only had one because it was late But a great experience and a good state!. read more

Cool local brewery, with a diverse tap list and some great barbecue on the menu. I had one of their IPAs, it was smooth and tasty without jumping off the "juiciness" scale like every NE IPA these days. It was nice to have a "normal" IPA for a change. The wings were good, plenty of smokiness and the sauce was full of flavor. The space is big, with lots of bench seating, good for groups. There are also some hightops and stools at the bar, as well as a small patio and an anteroom that was great for the pleasant weather. Counter service only, but they bring your food to your table after you order at the bar. read more

Boy was this place busy for happy hour on a Thursday! Love the vibe- big long beer hall tables, games, lots of chatter and enjoyment! The smoked turkey sandwich was really good! I wasn't expecting thick turkey but it was pretty tender. I did want more of that great aioli ! The chips were very seasoned! Super crisp and delicious. The Mac and cheese had great flavor. The overall service was good, but slow, which was was OK considering we had a large group and they were short staffed. This also gave us more time to catch up. Dispite the slow and lukewarm food, I still would like to recommend this place for the ambiance. It is a good place to meet friends or family. Solid 4!! The chopped brisket was definitely dry and my husband said his pork sandwich was, though I tried it and the bite I got was at least more moist than my sandwich. But, the burnt ends, turkey, kettle chips, Mac n Cheese and beer makes up for it. And yes, dry brisket is disappointing but the flavor was nice. I would for sure be back, if I didn't live in Texas. Great experience at this brewery. I love trying food at different breweries along with having a few beers. I ordered the shrimp tacos and the Mexican lager they had on tap. To be honest, I probably should've ordered the BBQ, but the shrimp tacos were very good and light. The beer I ordered paired well with the tacos. Overall, a good experience. A must-visit BBQ spot in Bismarck! I've tried the smoked turkey sandwich and the brisket, and both were outstanding--the turkey was juicy and packed with flavor, and the brisket was perfectly tender with great smoke. I've never had the opportunity to try this beer before but I'm glad we came across this place on our road trip . First off great facility! Lots of seating indoor, covered outdoor and fully outdoor. There's a small stage a kitchen pushing out great food and Axe throwing! Nothing I love more than drinking beers and tossing sharp objects! We bellied up to the bar and ordered a flight of beer so that we could try some of the different styles they make. The guy and the girls working the bar were great! We brought our dog, it's dog friendly on the patios and they have a covered patio as well! The staff were so kind to our dog and brought him a bowl of water! I personally recommend the I heart ND light brew! Can't get enough of it! The food was decent! (Disclaimer: we're from Texas) the brisket was decent with the bbq sauce! The beer cheese that came with the pretzel had good taste also just wish it had a thicker cheesier consistency! We loved the atmosphere and everyone was so nice! Went for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Only been here once before. My sandwich was in the window for a few minutes so my dad went to grabbed it for me. He got yelled at for grabbing it. I honestly couldn't remember if they delivered to the table. Guy cleaning the table asked how the food was, I said my sandwich was kind of cold by the time I got it since my dad grabbed it. Great local brewery and eatery! Awesome atmosphere with axe throwing in the back. Great indoor and outdoor space with lots of room. Service was good and if you don't eat/drink at the bar you just walk up to the counter to place your orders and pick up your stuff which is different but a neat idea. All beers that I tried were great and had lots of flavor! The pretzel was awesome and the beer cheese is homemade with their house beer. Stopped in 7/3/24 for brews and food. Trivia night going on so it was busy but sat at bar. Lots of staff milling around but not seeming too productive. One guy sitting at bar w his laptop, maybe manager, had a super loud voice and was talking nonstop about other employees, who was partying, and distracting the staff behind the bar with nonstop stories. Finally the food runner, guy w dark beard who was hustling, came behind bar twice and told everyone to get out and clean up. TBH several looked buzzed and were possibly pregaming for 4th when the place would be closed. Positive- ordered pulled pork plate and it was HUGE, honestly enough for 2-3 people. Came across this place while in Bismarck on business with some colleagues. Overall, this brewery is a good stop. Food and brews were good and fast delivery. You have to order your food at the counter and then the food is brought out to you. Good selection of brews and a flight if you desire. They have a an ax throwing area where you can throw spears, ninja stars, and different sizes of axes. It's a bit confusing because we tried to get in on the action and didn't realize you had to reserve and sign a waiver. There are no obvious signs on the procedures and no one outside to assist. The only complaint is the seating. The internal seating area is pretty limited. The outdoor seating near the ax throwing was reserved for another party so again the limited seating was a factor.
