This is not a fancy venue by any means, but great if you're looking to cater a casual reception, baby luau or graduation party. Hilo is a very casual town and I imagine that this place is very popular. There were three 8' tables at the back for all the food and there was a small alcove which they used for the dessert buffet. The groom's father had cooked up a huge spread of Hawaiian food for the guests and most of it was served out of the medium sized kitchen located in the back of the venue. Live Hawaiian slack key band, DJ, tons of food, plenty of cheeeeee-hoos and a room filled with family, friends and love. My boyfriend caught the garter, my son had a blast doing the monster robot (a signature move he developed) on the stage, and to give you a synopsis of what kind of reception this was, here's the infamous party toast: "Banzai... Puinsai... Hapai... Awright!!! Cheeeeeeee-hoo!!!"

Staff changes frequently but I have dealt with the kind , thoughtful and courteous ones. I donate many like new items for them to make money. The store is worth a look every week because then get a lot of hidden treasures in all the time. Inflation is not a worry here.

He was pretty knowledgeable and answered a lot of our questions. The bf and I browsed for what seemed to be hours. A lot of the stuff we liked were big or dangerous (i.e. knives & swords) and couldn't bring with us on the airport. Most of the items were super expensive. The bf ended up getting a small jewelry box for his mom. We had to buy something, the poor guy stayed opened late for us. Bryan's little chihuahua followed me around the store....cute.

Later on, his wife asked if I wanted some water to drink and gave me a bottle of water right there and then! Das why I love my Hilo town. :) So full of aloha these people. The store is pretty expansive and takes up two large sections with a smaller sub-room in the back. He specialized in a lot of European and Hawaiian antiques and also performs restoration on some of the furniture pieces that come to him "less than desirable." A lot of the store is furniture antiques - tables, desk, chairs, display cases, etc. - but settled amongst these are smaller objects. Koa boxes, small ceramic figurines, koa bowls, dishes, etc. Prices will range depending on what you're looking for --- furniture started in the high hundreds on up. Keep in mind, that this isn't the Sally Store (Salvation Army store) or Goodwill and you're paying for items that rare/can't be found a whole anymore. Thus, each piece is priced accordingly. If you're interested in antique furniture, koa items, or local vintage Hawaiiana, I'd definitely recommend this place. There's free parking right in front of the store.

The current workers are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered there. The lady that is…read more"in charge" denies toys, clothing, etc. She told me my freshly washed clothes were junk and that she would not except them. I told her they were not dirty and she could smell them if she liked she said "NO"! that is fine but I didn't know that she was the leader in standards, the clothing she was wearing was not that great so I'm not sure why she would act like that, its a donation center. Im just wondering if she just doesn't want to have to sort them, or just do a decent job. The past few years the way it is being ran is a disgrace, I have gone there many times and most of the clothes in the bins were not in as good of condition as the stuff I was donating. Who is she to say what the community wants or needs. To top it all off the pricing is outrageous for donated items. Its sad, I was donating that stuff so others could find clothing and toys at an affordable rate but I GUESS THAT DOESN"T EXIST ANYWHERE IN THIS STATE. For shame on your company and workers. I have been there a few times since she has started and I can only say she has never been kind to me. I think maybe you should find people that want to do the job, are happy to have the job. If you don't like what you do move on. In a state where everything is so expensive they should be ashamed of themselves and the way they treat people. I will tell everyone I know how crappy the service is, how rude they are to people,. It borders on hatefulness the way they act over there. Take a note of how awesome the donation center used to be before covid-I'm not sure what has changed over the years besides the quality of workers that they hire. I have been donating to this store for about 8 years with no problems - last week, and today, March…read more14, I was met by two women who accept the donations at the back entrance to the store building I had brought a number of items last week, including 2 sets of brand new Christmas dishes, 3 small appliances that all worked fine, a large popcorn popping machine that was brand new and a number of clothes - all of these things had been in storage for about a year, but now we had to clear it all out so I was bringing it all to this store - I had not noticed that one of the bags of clothes had a clump of something that looked like cat hair on the top shirt - the older woman looked at that, and rifled through the bag for a second, announced that everything was covered in cat hair, and she didn't want any of it - I apologized, even though I knew everything had been washed and folded before they had been put in the bag and took the bag back home - I got rid of the top shirt with the hair on it, pulled everything back out of the bag, shook them out, folded them again, and put them back into a rainbow colored, large rope tote bag that I was also donating I brought this all back to the transfer station thrift store today, and the second woman who had been there last week rudely said "so, do any of these clothes have cat hair all over them?" - I said no, they didn't, and she still rifled though them, obviously not believing me - I put another small bag of clean clothes on the table, and thanked her - she have me stink eye, never thanked me for anything, and I left Needless to say, I will never be back to this store with donations again - I recommend that anyone reading this save yourself from this bad attitude and take your donations to Salvation Army, Goodwill or any number of homeless shelters in Hilo - do not waste your time giving to this place that clearly does not appreciate what they are getting and do not know how to show gratitude

After a disaster with the movers who brought my stuff from California to Hilo (see my review of…read moreRoyal Hawaiian Movers for details), I had a bed and a futon that were, respectively, barely usable and unusable because the movers had lost critical pieces and couldn't put them back together properly. One attempted repair by a handyman the movers connected me with turned into a fiasco. In desperation, I turned to Iolani -- there not being a lot of furniture repair people in Hilo. Shanna saved the day. She repaired both items quickly, at shockingly reasonable prices. And she gave me a bit of useful info that, as a newcomer to the island, it would have taken me a while to figure out on my own. If Yelp let you give a business more than five stars, I would.

If she doesn't have it, she will definitely keep her eyes out, She's that kind of person. She does beautiful work with other people's "Give Aways" restoring and making it reuseable again.
