Man, oh man, so glad I found this wonderful little farmers market in Volcano, not to far from the National Park. I was craving coffee on a Sunday morning and this market opened at 6am. When I arrived at 6:15, the place was jumping. Coffee, food, farm produces, crafts, artisans and used books were among the offerings. I had the best cup of locally grown coffee ever. She even had non-dairy milks for those who prefer. I had a wonderful breakfast at the Volcano Cookshop in the main building. For only $8, I had sausage/eggs/fried potatoes, which were delicious. This little stand is popular, aloha friendly with a great selection of pastries, soups and fruity snacks. I picked up fresh apple bananas, breakfast pies (which are popular and delicious, and some hand painted kitchen towels. The vendors and guests are super friendly. I spend almost 3 hours there talking to people and shopping. You need to get there early as fruit and other popular items go quickly. Great little community and great little market! read more

stayed in Volcano for only 2 days and stumbled upon this market on Thursday, when we were hungry for lunch. Saw a Thai food tuck, BBQ smoker, fish truck and taco truck parked in the lot. Inside we saw venders selling candles, jewellery, honey, soaps, more food and fresh produce. For lunch, we decided to have bbq and a Thai papaya salad to go with it. bbq was tasty and they were also selling scotch eggs which I have always wanted to try , it was good. salad is authentic and fresh! it only lacked herbs. We needed fresh produce for our rental home and there was a micro green stand selling salads for $5 and beautiful mushrooms. the dressing and salad the best we have had on the island at an excellent value. highly recommend. paired mushrooms with steak and they taste better than from our grocery store! so happy to be able to visit when we were here! read more

Lovely lovely place in Volcano. We came on New Year's Day so literally everything was closed but we came across this farmers market and wow what a treat! Everyone was so sweet, we found fresh coffee, vegan tomato soup + fresh bread and everything was great. Highly recommend! read more

We went here early Sunday morning at 730am. It's open from 6am-9am on Sundays and is a quaint farmer's market with a handful of tables selling baked goods, crafts, and some fruits and vegetables. The biggest draw was the used book shop selling crinkled paperbacks for 50 cents. Our daughter excitedly found a few titles well worth lugging home to California. read more

Great early farmer's market! I was surprised at the variety since it seems like a small town. We got pancake wheels with red bean and purple sweet potato. There are veggies, fruits, huge coconuts for drinking ($2), honey, breakfast food, Thai food, bookshop, clothes, crafts, etc. Check out the fire station and playground for the kids. read more

Always a highlight of a trip to the Big Island. Held only on Sunday mornings, from 6 AM to 10 AM, and worth planning a trip around. Lovely selection of local vendors, at good prices. Delicious local coffees, fruits and vegetables, and hot breakfast foods. The egg sandwich was only OK, but the purple sweet potato and Azuki bean Moon cakes were out of this world, hot and fresh, one of the most delicious things I have had in a long time. They alone are worth a long trip. There are also beautiful photographs from the photographer Charlene Meyers, and other kinds of gifts like handmade soaps and jewelry. I got there early as people on trip advisor suggested, and it was already bustling and they were starting to sell out of some things by 830. That may be later than usual because it was a very rainy morning. This is really the social center of the Volcano community. read more

Every Sunday at 7 a.m. or thereabouts, there is a farmer's market at the Volcano Fire House. There are local vendors selling their organic fruits and vegetables and delicious foods and goods. I always buy the thai chicken soup from the lady that sells Monarch Coffee. Get it with the garlic and chili pepper! It's not too hot, but savory and delicious! She also sells curry. There is also a pastry lady inside the rec hall and she makes amazing chocolate croissants and other delicious pastries. Another lady sells Hawaiian print happi coats that are fleece-lined and fully reversible! Really pretty and practical to keep seniors warm or to keep you stylish when traveling! We bought a chocolate cream pie and cream cheese/bacon/cranberry dip to enjoy from another lady. My significant other RAVED about the chocolate cream pie, and especially the light and flaky crust! Yum! There are wonderful jams and jellies and organic, non-pasteurized honeys with different flavors too. There is a playground for the keiki too. So everyone is happy! read more

I wouldn't really call it a farmers market. It was more of a arts and crafts set up with people selling baked goods, coffee etc. As for vegetables it appeared to be what people grew in their small gardens in their back yard. It really wasn't any more than what one should expect from the most basic of grocery stores. Though I suspect after going into the stores in Volcano village, that those types of vegetables are hard to come by. There were a few stalls that were selling savory type foods (i.e. soups, lunch plates, burritos) but nothing looked appetizing, at least not to this outsider. I'm sure this market is essential to the locals as both a social gathering place and a place to pick up things they wouldn't normally be able to get regularly but it all seemed a bit bare bones to me. I'm not sure I would ever go back but I would certainly encourage others to experience it for themselves. Oh, they did have a really nice book sale area. I didn't have a chance to fully explore that because I wasn't about to lug a bunch of books back to the mainland however. read more

I live in South Point and drive the 45+ miles to Volcano Cooper Center at least twice a month. This is a wonderful place to shop, share and greet. Produce is wonderful. Chicken Papaya soup alone is worth the drive. Thanks Nani! Great thrift shop and loads of books, etc. to enjoy. Third Sunday of month is half price for thrift shop items. Don't miss it! read more
