Oh my--where to begin! I'll start by saying that Shawn and Kodi are incredible, and the photos are…read moreof equal caliber. Now to jump into the details...  We were initially going to get married in Kansas City, but then we opted to get married somewhere close to us. I reached out to Shawn to let him know we weren't getting married in KC any longer, but he said they would be willing to travel to Savannah, GA to shoot our wedding. I was a little hesitant about using a photographer who wasn't from the area and not meeting them before the wedding (my husband wasn't up for engagement photos), but I loved their photos and knew we were in good hands with how responsive he was every time I reached out to him. They were great about working with us on the package, and we immediately felt a connection to him during our pre-wedding call. Shawn had great ideas about our "sparkler" photo timing and had great insight on the timeline.  When we met Shawn and Kodi a couple of weeks later at the rehearsal, we knew we had made the right decision based on their professionalism and the demeanor between the two of them. On the wedding day, Shawn showed up in a tuxedo to shoot and was the definition of professionalism. I knew he was incredibly talented the minute he started taking photos of our rings and other details, and I was blown away by how quickly he got through the wedding party and family photos. (Either my family was on their best behavior or he was completely keeping them in line--going with the latter!) We had some ideas of where to shoot photos, but Shawn had the eye for where we should set up and how we should pose. I thought it would be awkward, but it was so much fun since he was great at giving instructions and kept us moving at a seemingly natural pace.  Kodi served as the second shooter, and her energy was incredibly calming that day. She was an amazing support to Shawn (or so it appeared to us) and also to me--from reminding us when to bring flowers, coordinating timing details, making me feel at ease for being AN HOUR AND A HALF BEHIND SCHEDULE (Yikes!!!! All my fault, not theirs!), and so much more. Their ability to work as such a strong team was so wonderful to watch, and it enhanced the experience for me because they were able to play off each other's ideas and personalities to come up with the best shots and provide the most perfect experience.  We are in the process of getting the photos back now, and I've been so blown away by everything they caught, their creative eye on some shots, and how they were able to make my husband and I feel so comfortable so we had "natural" smiles in the photos. I also love how they caught moments that may have seemed small at the time but are so precious now that I'm looking back on them. The only sad part of this process is that we don't get to hang with them again, as they were truly such a joy to be around and work with throughout the entire process. I cannot say enough positive things about Swander Photography and am so grateful I stumbled across them! Please book them--you won't regret it!

I'm located near Kansas City, my photographer was at my house for nearly 5 hours. She got some good shots but it was a very long day for being 7 days postpartum. The company trains each photographer so each session is like the last. The pro is that their photos seem consistent, the con is that my photos were almost the exact same as the ones on their advertisement and likely the same if my neighbor were to order a session. Furthermore, I didn't get to choose my photographer, she was assigned based on my location and the company said they could not send me examples of her work because all the photographers are trained the same and their work is indistinguishable. During my session I missed the spontaneity of finding props or locations within my home that would make the photo shoot special and unique to me. My dog was also not allowed which was sad as she was present in my previous newborn session with my eldest. Lastly, the company only gives you 7 days to choose your pictures (a selection of only 29-30, which didn't seem like enough for 5 hours of picture taking). Then once you receive them you have 7 days to download them. This seems like a tight schedule for a mom juggling a newborn and a toddler. With all this said, if you like the pictures shown in their Yelp profile and you don't mind any of the above critique, then go for it.

Homer Peyton was an extremely talented assistant and artist who excelled at manipulating images. He would create one of a kind art pieces by adding to the negatives with pencil or crayon to create a unique background as well as sculpting shadows and adding a greater tonal range in the portraits to enhance the depth. The location that they had set up was a beautiful farm in Stilwell (Serendipity Farms) and they had arranged a huge beautiful wreath in front of the barn for a gorgeous backdrop. We were there for about 30 minutes and had a great time; Rye & her husband Chase were SO great with our toddler. They made him laugh and smile and really gained his trust so he had a blast and cooperated like a little angel. A week after our shoot we met at their studio to go over the photos where we then narrowed it down to our favorite shots. We chose 'Package A' which included 5 printed photos for $750. Here is where I dock one star because I couldn't find any pricing on the Rye Studios website before going into this meeting, so it was a little awkward discussing pricing and options in the moment. It was difficult to follow the package pricing versus the a la carte options. I also wish we would have been provided the digital copies of the photos we chose; The only digital copies we have were the ones uploaded to the Rye Studios Facebook - with the logo attached. All in all, the photos turned out spectacular but based solely on the price for 5 prints, we will probably only use Rye for special occasions. If they had offered a flat session fee for digital copies I would hire them multiple times a year! I will reiterate that I am thrilled with the shots that we did get, I just wish we had access to them.

We walked into the studio to review our photos, my husband and I, and were blind-sided by our choices of: Pkg A:$750 Pkg B:$1100 Pkg C:$1250 Ok. I should've asked when I called. I know. Guilty! But these prices were off the chart crazy. We bought, out of naivete. Hindsight..... Their product was beautiful, though! We love our proofs and have learned from this one!
