Really good cafe with quick service. As others have said, Cafetal has a bit of everything. It's…read morepart bakery, part cafeteria, sandwich shop, and coffee. All of it is very good. I really liked their coffee. This wasn't bland US-style restaurant brew Folgers coffee. It's the good stuff (and reasonably priced). I had some hot prepared food from their cafeteria area. It was good. But, the real winner is their Cuban sandwich. My son got one and it was huge. Like more than a foot long. Not only is it big, it is delicious. I would say probably the best one I've ever had (and I've had them in Miami and elsewhere). Pastries and sweets are yummy too. You won't leave here hungry. Nice little stop along the road if you're passing through the area.

Try the Guava Cheese pastry or there's one made with Ladyfingers and cream cheese. Awesome Cherry turnovers. We tried like 11 things in the 2 trips we made. All of them were great. Very friendly staff, let me practice my Español and remembered us when we came back. So sweet, asked us if we liked our Airbnb. I just wished that I had gotten pics of the inside. It is beautiful and cozy looking even though it's pretty large. They are open until 10 at night so we were able to scoot in on our way back from hiking tours and have our stuff for breakfast. Unusual for someone living stateside to see. Stop in and try them, you won't go anywhere else for your pastry.

We stopped by this small bakery on a day trip to Ponce. We were only in town for a couple of hours…read moreand I saw it because it was near where we parked. I'd just been complaining that I hadn't gotten any really great desserts since we'd arrived in Puerto Rico several days ago. Most places we ate had flan and Tres Leches and, while I enjoy those options, I was hoping to find something else. This place did the trick. It's tiny, and the desserts of the day are nicely displayed in a small case at the front of the store. The owner/baker came out to greet us and described each of the options. We chose a lemon tart, a raspberry cheesecake, and a classic cinnamon roll. Each one was delicious. The tart was very fresh, with a strong lemon flavor, a texture that melts in your mouth, and a flaky thin crust. The cheesecake flavor was very light. The first flavor of raspberry being strong, but the cheesecake flavor following. The cinnamon roll was excellent. It is a perfect balance of cinnamon and the dough remained dense and didn't dry out, even though we waited several hours before eating it. Although we don't plan to be back in Ponce any time soon, I wanted to ensure a good review so other's may enjoy the beautifully made desserts at this small local bakery.

So when I finally caught the place open on my last visit and saw there were still treats left. The moment I stepped in, I was warmly greeted by Jaime (owner) himself, who took the time to kindly walk me through each dessert available. It was honestly hard to choose, they all looked incredible, so I ended up going with two. First, the manchego cheesecake. Oh wow. It was absolutely divine, creamy, just the right amount of sweet, with a crust that had the perfect crunch and flavor. Then there were the guava bars, what a dream. The guava paste had a beautiful, balanced sweetness that made every bite feel like a little celebration and as if you are eating a fresh guava. This place is something special. If you're anywhere near town, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to one of these amazing desserts. You'll be so glad you did.
