Their room is spacious with large windows. They have all the issues that typically plague the elderly---they need help in the bathroom, bathing, transferring. They cannot medicate themselves. Meals must be provided. From a monetary standpoint, it has been a good exchange for the support that they have needed. We had some fluid moments, and I am very pleased that Spanish Bay accommodated their needs at a price point that was fair for all. After being their caregiver for several years, it wasn't easy letting them go. I have to say that Spanish Bay has been as supportive of me and my family as they have been of the folks. Growing old is difficult. You lose the ability to navigate life and the many different decisions that have to be made daily. (We found out later the switch was not hooked up to anything. The administrators controlled the system) We eventually bought her a portable A/C rather than have her live so miserably. The frame of mind of these folks is don't complain, because there is so much you have to dend on them for. Any way there are to many things to mention than I can fit in this review. After her living there a year we had such a true sense of how horrible tbe place was we started looking around for a better facility. She is now in a place that is professionally run, has truely capable people working there, the cafeteria is more like a restaurant, the mood is amazing, and on top of that it is less expensive. All I can say is check around before you put your loved one in this hell hole. I can testify there are much better facilities for the same or less expenditure.

The first item that attracted us was the affiliation with Teepa Snow and a positive approach to dealing with residents rather than just medicating them. After touring quite a few places what really stood out at Carlton was that the employees seemed genuinely happy at work. At Carlton they have many activities every day and I have never regretted the decision to have mom live and be cared for at Carlton, and that's saying a lot. I terminated the services of Amada after suffering incompetent caregivers (if or when they showed up) and my VISA account being grossly overcharged. Amada attempted to sue me(extort) an additional $10,000.00 for a, NON EXISTANT, contract violation. I COUNTER SUED for $12,500.00 and was awarded a judgment that has been met with reluctence to pay, well under what was taken from me. As a senior who has been taken advantage of, I think this experience can be termed as ELDER ABUSE. Verification can be had by Yolo County Case #SC2024-0129 PUBLIC RECORDS

Regardless, was quoted a total overall price of 419.00 for two days care. Caregiver could not cook. An important aspect of the role. Burnt eggs and inedible oatmeal were served to my father. He complained loudly. Then after that, I received an additional bill of 80.00 stating they had worked additional hours. This was a lie. The caregiver worked four ours each of the two days as agreed. Nothing further. Carrie stated "well it was on the care plan". That would be great to know. But I was never provided any copy of said care plan. If I had been, then I would have cancelled care. Immediately. They were deceptive in their practices. Do not recommend. Then today I received mail at the house addressed to my father. They were clearly told not to send mail to him as I am the POA and Trustee. He is incapacitated. Again another mistake. They were notified that all mail needs to come to me . Directly. From day one. This overall was a disappointing, unprofessional and anxiety giving experience. I would not recommend them if you care about peace of mind for your loved one.

We came from another facility that was horrid and this facility made the move as smooth as possible. The caregivers actually care about residents and were immensely helpful and getting my grandmother acclimated and caring for her like family when she became ill. The nurse Yvonne, was particularly helpful in navigating the healthcare system and what was truly best for my grandmother. My family and I were very pleased with how the family was taken care of and other residents seemed genuinely happy. Prices are comparable, if not better than the local area.
