I starting using the practice in 1996 with Dr Maggin and occasionally Dr. Margolis. It was a good experience and I had no problems until about 2004 when the office staff changed. The doctor confronted me about being "late" when I was on time and signed in on time - the staff had not processed my arrival and missed my sign in. No apologies and it felt like there was tension there. After Dr Maggin retired it became harder to get an appointment. It became nearly impossible after Dr Margolis retired. My last visit I felt like it was a different place. For a while there were only female doctors and PAs. It feels like a different place with everything being rushed with no care. Horrible patient care. Transfer of records to other providers is a nightmare. Office gives you the run around. This is a prime example of what healthcare is coming to. Office staff disregards your concerns, communication to providers is practically nonexistent. So happy to have left this practice, just wish I did it years ago. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. It's a shame that the front office of this practice is so incapable. I actually really like the PCP I see at this location, as she is a very good Doctor, attentive and thorough in her work. However, it's almost impossible to reach her due to the inability of the front staff to schedule or communicate. They are short, rude, and never follow through on promises to call back. I have been trying to schedule a tele-health visit with my PCP for 3 weeks now. Three weeks of last second rescheduling, missed/ghosted appointments, and constant confusing and contradictory communications from the front staff. Every mistake that could be made has been made and even now, it seems that I've been ghosted for a second time in two weeks. I'm not sure how you can call this healthcare. read more

I've been coming here forever and it's recently going downhill. If I could give zero stars I would, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get someone on the phone. They answer and put you on hold and never return your calls. The merge with medstar medical gave them more employees for NO REASON. I have no issues with the doctor or nurses, PA's . But for two consecutive years my referral wasn't submitted to my specialist . Worse than that ? Both times I had to go to the office to get a hard copy after FoUR phone calls . My BP meds took Atleast two phone calls . So now I wasted time , gas and sure my blood pressure skyrocketed . I give Laurel MedStar 4 stars because I never give any one or thing 5 stars. I have been a patient of this practice since 2007 having previously utilized a Family practice in northeastern Montgomery County where the waiting room was always "standing room only". SOP at that practice was overschedule and pack them in. Laurel MedStar is the opposite. The longest I have waited for a doctor there is 15 minutes. If for any reason your physician is unable to see you, another physician steps up to help you. Please keep in mind however that my experience with Laurel Internal Medicine was overwhelmingly prior to the practice becoming associated with MedStar. I have noted the low grades some reviewers assign to this practice, almost all coming since MedStar became the umbrella organization for this once great patient-oriented practice. I have my concerns about that as well. Not only was there a change is some administrative procedures but in non-medical staff as well. After being a patient for many years it hurts to say that Laurel Internal Medicine seems to be in decline. A simple annual physical (free according to Anthem Blue Cross) has become a point of contention after receiving a bill characterizing it as an Office Visit ($hundreds), a major cost difference, even though there were no questions, concerns or issues other than the doctor's standard annual wellness questions. Also, it's been strange to go into the doctor's office and be subjected to a "virtual visit" by cellphone with the doctor who is sitting down the hall... This practice has gyrated through a number of different business models in recent years but it has become predatory since it associated with the Medstar corporation. This practice used to be good but has gone downhill in the past year. The doctors are competent enough once you get an appointment but they and the administrative and front office staff are impossible to reach and do not return your calls. If you can actually get someone on the phone, they put you on hold and then hangup on you. I would characterize the office as a Medicare factory where they just churn through their elderly patients without regard to their follow-up care. I have been out of my cholesterol and diabetes meds for two weeks. The doctor I was seeing is no longer there, but they still had my records. Any doctor in the practice could have filled them for me, but I was denied. I spoke to a few doctors outside of their office, and they too said that since they had my records, my prescriptions should have been filled. When I found out that my doctor was leaving the practice, which was back in April of 2024, I signed a release form for my records to be sent to her no office. They were never sent. I was told they were pending, whatever that means. Then I was told by the same person that another doctor from the practice would fill them for me. When I called back to see if they were refilled, I was told no, and that person denied she ever said that. I have been with that practice for 30 years. I never had issues. They also have some legal issues pending against them. Run as fast as you can from this practice. Since they changed to Med Star, its been terrible. I also filed a complaint with Med Star two weeks ago, to no avail. My husband, son, daughter and sister have also pulled out of the practice. This speaks volumes! read more

This practice is the absolute worse! I just got out of the hospital after abdominal surgery. I have been trying to engage with my primary care physician to get an appointment. Initially, the practice told me that they would not be able to see for (5) weeks--this is why I have to go to Patient First of other urgent care facilities when I'm sick because it's impossible to see my" doctor. However, after (1) unreturned call and (2) days of checking back to see if they could get the doctor to agree to accept a single 20 minutes slot instead of the established (2) 20 minute slots for a post-surgical follow-up, I finally got an appointment for (2) weeks out. If you expect to actually be able to see a doctor in a timely manner when it is needed (like me with a resected colon, removed appendix and (3) scars in my stomach along with test results that use words like malignant, tumor, etc.) then this is definitely not a practice that you want to be associated with! read more

This is not a good medical office. The office staff were OK in my experience, reasonably organized and responsive. I found the medical staff, however, unhelpful! I first came to see Dr. Tadiconda, who I thought was burned out and bored with her work. I felt she had a canned answer for every concern I had, rushed me through, didn't want to listen, and did not have much interest in trying to help me get well. Mary O'Brien, RN, was professional and did not rush me through, but she was not helpful with my complaints of fatigue or the fact that I have prediabetes and these could be related. I thought the new doctor they hired, Flint Walker, was unprofessional and very unhelpful. My fasting lab numbers are in the pre-diabetes range and I am dealing with debilitating fatigue, especially after meals. Dr. Walker declared that my numbers are "perfectly fine" and that my fatigue is not related to my glucose. When I asked about the post-meal symptoms, he said he didn't know why I had them. He suggested my fatigue was due to an underlying depression, which he offered to treat with Lexapro. After this unfortunate encounter, I did some reading on the internet and later went to see an endocrinologist. The post-meal fatigue is due to postprandial hyperglycemia, not depression. I was put on medication (metformin), given prescriptions for glucometer supplies, and advised to follow up with a dietitian. I am starting to feel better. After my internet reading I wrote to Dr. Walker to explain to him that I found the answer to the question of post-meal fatigue; he became defensive and I believe untruthful in his explanations of how he handled my glucose issues. For example, he never advised me to monitor my post - meal blood sugar using a glucometer, but he claimed he did. In response to my challenging his knowledge and truthfulness, Dr. Walker complained to the practice administration and I received a patient dismissal letter! I would not recommend Dr. Walker to anyone, especially to those with diabetes. In my opinion at a minimum Dr. Walker needs continuing education in the area of diabetes and a fair dose of attitude adjustment. I would not recommend Laurel Internal Medicine to anyone with complex or difficult medical issues. They might be OK for a young person with an occasional sore throat. read more
