This station does at the most basic level. The entrance to the station has 2 machines which seems to manage the traffic well. For the most part they are always working and accepting both cash and cards. The station is well lit and the staircases have been upgraded lately. However, there are no elevators/escalators so if you're travelling with a stroller or luggage the stairs can be brutal. Shelter is a basic cover which has about 6 seats and then two outdoors sets of about 4 seats. Again, very no frills.

This is a older station so expect no elevators and about 15 steps to climb I think the Rosedale station and I know Jamaica has elevators. Make sure you buy your tickets prior to boarding or you get hit with a surcharge that could double your ticket price. Then the ride on average 22 minutes vs 1.15 and bus train combo Cost is on average 4 times more than regular transit during rush hour west or east off peak about 2.5 times more. Convenient Rail Road Station!…read more It's kept well meaning it's not dirty and run down. Also if you're planning on parking, there are residential areas where you can park and not have to pay. May be a little walking but it's worth it. As a previous Yelper states, the machines are never broken. And there's shelter to wait and it's heated when it's cold out. There also seems to be a cafe that is closed all the time (lol). This is a station that you just wanna be out and about. Get there and get on a train. Get off a train and leave. As simple as that. No point in sticking around waiting for your train.

And, if you are trying to get to the city, the Air Train is more reliable, faster, and predictable than taxis and rideshare at a fraction of the cost (and sometime more spacious or comfortable). Plus, it's luggage friendly and accessible. And they don't need to know your name. If you're confused, you need to take the smooth, magnetic Air Train to exit the airport to either Howard Beach to catch the A train or to Jamaica for the E, J, or Z train (or the Long Island Rail Road direct to Grand Central or Penn Station for $5.25-$7.25). To get directions in reverse back to the airport, just hold this review up to a mirror. Ideally, it would be great to have a direct link from airport to city, like Chicago, Atlanta, DC, San Francisco, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and Minneapolis and Portland (and Seattle if you walk 1000 feet), but I still appreciate the "two-seat" system because the signage is super easy. You can jump off your plane and follow the yellow signs straight to the air train, pay at the turnstile, and be on a train within 15 minutes anytime of the day. As of June 2026, it's $8.75 for the Air Train, and $3 for the subway. Pro Tip: If you are heading to Terminal 8 from the city, get off the train at Terminal 1, walk across the platform, and catch the clockwise "All Terminals" to catch it in 1 (not 5) stops.

There is no payment done here, as one can take the AirTrain to go from one terminal to another or to the rental car center. The $8.75 charge is only done if using either the Jamaica or Howard Beach train station to enter the NYC subway system. From anywhere in Terminal 4, there are signs directing you to grand transportation, and once closer, explicit signs directing you to the AirTrain. Once here, one has to make a choice to either take the Jamaica line or Howard Beach line. When we were here early on a Tuesday morning, each train was running every 10 minutes or so.

So make sure when booking your flights you know what part of NYC you want to get into. I flew in for the US Open. So this airport is literally minutes from Queens. Headed to Manhattan? Make sure you go to La Guardia. I really liked this airport because it was so convenience clean, and you felt easy easing into New York. Baggage claim was straightforward and I love their duty free shops.

Sometimes, especially during rush hour. The line for this bus can be a bit crazy. Definitely be prepared to wait in line. The bus line basically takes you down Lefferts Blvd. I'm not sure the exact route it takes to JFK but again it ends up there. The buses themselves are all upgraded now so they tell you the next stop, most have a map that tracks the stops, etc.

This bus serves airport employees as well as passengers which connects to J, Z trains and A Lefferts Boulevard train. Thus when short of cash, one can catch the Q10 Bus at the standard fare of $2.25 to board one's flight at Kennedy Airport. The bus stop on Liberty Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard is nasty everyday plasted with feces and other rubbish on this corner intersection. N.B. There are two routes of this Q10 Bus: * Q10 Limited (service to JFK Airport Central Terminal 4) * Q10 (last stop at 150th Avenue and 130th Place in South Ozone Park near the NYC Department of Sanitation)
