She is extremely professional- from her booking system to her "table"-side manner. She is also very intuitive and experienced/educated in terms of touch. She was able to feel and manipulate trouble spots on my body that most practitioners don't notice or don't know what to do with. I had my first massage with her last summer when I was recently post-partum and that was equally wonderful. She is conveniently located in Columbia Heights with easy parking, no stairs to climb, and has a clean, personal, cozy space. After a series of injuries, my running coach recommended massage therapy. Lauren is conveniently located ~0.5mi from my apartment, so it was an easy sell. Plus, did someone say massage?! No need to twist my arm. I signed up for my first deep tissue massage not really knowing what to expect. Lauren was warm, welcoming and professional. First things first, she performed a thorough pre-massage questionnaire. During which she was clearly interested in understanding what my issues and needs were which I much appreciated. Anyone who has ever had a deep tissue massage will understand why I'm electing not to go into the specifics of the massage experience itself. Lauren is amazing. If you are looking for more than a salon-style fluff massage, she is for you. I'm seeing her for a sports injury, and her work has sped up my recovery process by leaps and bounds beyond what I was getting in just physical therapy. I searched for months to find a good massage therapist in DC, and tried out a few different places only to find massage after massage that put me to sleep with soothing music. I have used massage therapy, yoga, and physical therapy to heal the over stressed muscles in my lower back a that modern medicine said was in need of surgery. I have had many massage therapist work on me in the past 10 years. So far to date Lauren has been the most skilled and through massage therapist. Sadly, I no longer live in DC, and thus cannot enjoy the relaxing splendor that is a massage by Lauren Piro. Seriously, she's the best. As soon as you talk through her door, her countenance puts you at ease, no matter what stress you were carrying. And she's totally insightful with massage: she always knows how your muscles are interconnected, so while you may see her for a shoulder problem, she'll help you realize that your pain may be associated with muscle groups other than your shoulder. But most importantly, Lauren identifies and alleviates all your knots and tightness in an hour. Lauren is amazing. I saw her regularly for a time, then that thing called LIFE got in the way, and after a roughly three year "pause" I finally *made* the time for a long overdue therapeutic massage. Much has changed for me / my body since our last encounter, but as another reviewer noted Lauren is very intuitive and knew exactly where to find my trouble spots. I knew from my previous experience with Lauren that the massage would be wonderful, and frankly it was even better. I've squeezed in a few other massages while on travel and the treatment I received from Lauren far exceeded all of those combined. As silly as this may sound, it's as though her fingers have magnets that somehow manage to pull the pain out of achy, tight, overly used parts. Her space is cozy, inviting, clean and safe - all of which also reflect Lauren herself. The healing process can be challenging, even scary, yet Lauren somehow makes it a truly joyful and deeply rewarding process. Obviously I can't say enough good about Lauren (nor can I fathom why oh why I waited so long between treatments). Lauren was excellent in my very first massage ever . She was extremely professional and the entire environment was very relaxing and comfortable.. She worked out some of my shoulder pains that I'd been having and explained to me some things to help strengthen my posture and body so hopefully I can avoid more pain in the future. Lauren Piro gives a fabulous course of instruction on infant massage. Sitting side by side with us, Lauren used an infant massage doll to show us a wide variety of strokes and presses on baby's legs, feet, belly, chest, back, and head, while we followed along. The best part of her teaching style is that I didn't feel like I was being "taught," per se, but rather was led on a journey of fun exploration with my baby. My husband and I learned a lot about the health benefits of the strokes and saw first-hand the immediate calming effect it had on my very active boy. Also, Lauren's presence was soothing for both me and my baby. The atmosphere also was perfect for this: lights dimmed, music playing lightly in the background, and temperature warm and cozy. My whole family continues to enjoy the benefits of the infant massage. I highly recommend learning infant massage from Lauren! read more

I had my first massage with Lauren this week and it was amazing! So good, in fact, that this is my first Yelp review so that I could tell everyone how great she is. I made and appointment with Lauren because I couldn't get in with the woman I have been seeing. I run and bike and do a lot of other exercise and I told her I like really heavy pressure. She did just that. She asked questions about my massage history and health concerns and was very attentive to what I told her. I will definitely be returning to Lauren regularly.
