I originally booked this massage as a Valentine's Day gift because of your high ratings. I truly do not understand how the business maintains such high reviews, as I have now had two very disappointing experiences back to back. During my first visit, I specifically requested a deep tissue massage. However, the therapist applied almost no pressure. I stopped her three separate times within the first 20 minutes to explain that I needed significantly more pressure. Instead of adjusting properly, she continued to lather oil and focus almost exclusively on my upper left side. It honestly felt more like she was lightly petting me rather than performing a professional massage. Each time I expressed my concerns, she said she would adjust, but either no real pressure was applied or when she attempted to apply pressure, it felt very off and uncomfortable. The technique did not feel professional, and I actually began to feel physical discomfort. I became so stressed and upset that I started crying and ultimately asked to end the session early. After speaking with the owner, it was agreed that I could return for another session since the first massage ended after only 20 minutes -- during which I had already voiced my needs multiple times that were not met. For my second visit, I carefully selected a different therapist online, hoping this person would better meet my needs. Unfortunately, this experience was also very disappointing. The room was extremely cold and the heating blanket on the bed was not working. The lotion being used was also very cold, and the massage therapist's hands were cold as well. There was no attempt to warm up her hands or the products before applying them. I had goosebumps the entire time and was unable to relax -- I was actually very tense throughout the session. I mentioned multiple times how uncomfortable I was. There was a small heater in the room that was initially placed far from the bed. She eventually moved it closer, which helped slightly (maybe 10%), but the heating blanket was not replaced and no additional effort was made to properly warm the room or ensure I was comfortable. Unfortunately, the massage itself also did not feel professional. The technique felt very basic and light, and it did not meet the expectations I had for a professional service. To be honest, I felt like my fiancé could have done the same -- if not better. Overall, this was not the experience I was hoping for -- especially as it was meant to be a thoughtful Valentine's gift. I left feeling disappointed rather than relaxed. read more

I had my second appointment with Acupuncturist Malka this morning. She did a follow-up on my condition following our first session. There was no remarkable change, but she indicated from the start that it usually takes a few sessions before changes evidence themselves. The outstanding qualities that Malka has that make a difference in each session are that she instills trust on the part of her patients in her expertise to administer treatment, is intuitive in interpreting her patients' concerns/questions and possesses a calming, caring nature. My first appointment with ohana. I went to Carole after reading the reviews, they do not do her justice. She is amazing. I had a small workout injury on my back. Even though it was small, it was pretty painful. I am so much improved in 24 hours. She is more of a practitioner than anything else. She is absolutely fabulous. I would be sitting in so much pain today if it was not for her. To say it was super therapeutic is an understatement. I am so grateful. The temperature of the room and bed are always perfect. Monica was exceptional. She did a little bit of stretching in addition to the massage. I'd been looking for a new massage therapist for several months and had tried 3 or 4. None were "just right," until I got to Ohana today. My therapist, Stacey, gave me a thorough therapeutic massage, specifically working on a few injuries and sore places. Her excellent training and experience were evident as soon as she began working on me and I relaxed immediately and enjoyed the experience and the space which was very quiet and healing. Ohana is a lovely, cozy place, super clean and smells yummy. Everyone there is professional and the prices are competitive for the area (Bethesda) but also a good value considering the quality of massage. Just had a massage with Amy. My experience was "meh", mediocre at best. The room was super cold and noisy with the air purifier and air conditioning (even after I asked to turn it down). The massage oil she used was also cold which made me even colder. The massage technique was basic. It was pleasant but not therapeutic at all. From the moment you step inside you can already feel the calmness. The communication, clarity with questions answered & treatment of their customers is excellent. Nicole was my massage therapist, she was warm and helped me quickly figure out what I may need some work on based on me sharing some info with her. She had the magic touch and the massage truly helped my entire body feel rejuvenated after she was done. I'm always into the atmosphere & calmness of spaces with light and scents when getting a massage; they have done very well in that department. The candles and warm white colors & tones, as well as subtle scents that drifted around were fantastic. I was never distracted from any outside noise either (despite it being almost directly near a new construction site during this visit), which I was pleasantly surprised by as I am easily distracted when hearing outside noises. I've been to several other places around the DC area and this may be one of my favorites. I can't wait to come back for some more detox from the world. After my first massage at Ohana Wellness, I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, Nicole is clearly a skilled massage therapist and was super respectful, and I was extremely relaxed throughout the session. However, there are several reasons I'm not rating Ohana higher than three stars: 1) After a massage, my muscles normally feel much less tight for the next few days. That didn't happen this time. I now realize I wasn't even asked when I booked what kind of massage I wanted: Swedish, Thai, Deep Tissue, Sports, etc. (Ohana offers all and more.) 2) Communication with Ohana was just so-so. I would text to ask about availability, and sometimes I would get a reply very quickly...but sometimes I wouldn't hear back for more than a day, and twice I did not hear back at all -- including when I had accepted a time slot that was never confirmed...and was then given to someone else. 3) Nicole put on a mask when she saw that I was wearing one. I wish the people who greeted me when I walked in had masked as well -- at least while there were customers around. 4) Ohana is wildly expensive. I realize rent in Bethesda isn't cheap, but this was way more than I paid for my last massage, which was a few months ago in North Bethesda -- at another business with five stars on Yelp. Sure; Ohana is in a better location, but that doesn't account for the huge price difference. This massage was a birthday gift from my parents, and they encouraged me to go all out. I only wish I had tried somewhere else. I was really expecting this experience to be top-notch, and unfortunately, it fell short. read more

If you are in need of some relaxation and me time, I highly suggest checking out Ohana Wellness. They recently renovated and the space is really calming and relaxing. If you are expecting to come to a spa with a lounge to wind down and veg after your massage or that offers spa water/other goodies, this isn't the place for you. It's essentially no frills with a small waiting area and several treatment rooms on the first and second floors. There's four dedicated parking spots in the rear of the building, metered parking, or garage parking nearby. Once your treatment is booked, you'll receive an email with instructions for your visit and a code to enter the suite. I've been here a few times now ( twice for a prenatal massage and once for a Swedish massage) and no matter what massage therapist I have had, they have all been fantastic! What I love about Ohana is the fact that the therapists spend the full 30/60/90 minutes of your treatment actually working on you. They don't deduct those several minutes during your intake off of your massage like most other spas do. The massage therapists also take the time to really understand your needs and what you are there for. Talking during your massage is kept to a minimum and the amount of pressure applied is confirmed at the beginning of the massage. I never thought I'd enjoy more of a hard/deep pressure (generally tend to stay with medium pressure), but boy do I come out feeling great after 60 minutes. If you are looking for a spa to get a massage from friendly and professional therapists in a small, relaxing environment, Ohana Wellness is for you. read more

I had an issue today with parking causing me to be late. they were so understanding and my massage therapist Amy gave me my full hour in spite of being late. I've seen Amy a number of times. She is a terrific therapist and she never disappoints. I like the quaintness of being in a house but suspect it would be difficult to use the stairs if one has mobility issues. read more

I had a 60 min massage by Carole Dean who was phenomenal. She was a great listener and provided and very relaxing experience and checked in gently to see if I was well and feeling comfortable. I had my first massage at Ohana since Covid started, and it was great. I saw Greta, because my former regular therapist Brigitte has now become too popular, no doubt because of my previous reviews. (Is that an indication of being a narcissist? This word barely existed before a certain person came along to revive it.) My previous reviews of Ohana were sort of like drunk texting, but I can assure you that I am cold sober for this review. Because of covid, my therapist greeted me in a hazmat suit ... no I'm joking! I was able to relax quite easily even though this was a new therapist. Because I'm old, I no longer have to worry about an inappropriate body response other than the occasional fear of farting (This is where the term old fart originated.) In fact, I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep. As far as I know the therapist did not leave the room and start playing cards, but my eyes were closed for modesty reasons. I can't see myself naked. (Quick: R.E.M song, Night Swimming). Oh, wait a minute, I don't want to give anyone the impression that I was naked. I was covered by a mountain of sheets and blankets. It was 20 degrees outside. I would highly recommend Ohana Wellness, although in the future they may request that I curtail my yelp reviews. So quick summary: great massage, good place to go. read more
