My sweet pup Stevie was running in our yard and essentially stabbed herself in the chest on a large…read morepiece of driftwood that had come up from the marsh. We just moved to the area and hadn't been to a vet in the area yet. She had a large hole in her chest, that had me, quite frankly, terrified. My son and I got her in the car and I looked for the closest open animal hospital I could find on a Saturday. Luckily, that was PRVH. I called them on the way and let them know the situation. They helped me get her out of the car and took excellent care of her. They sedated her, did xrays to make sure she hadn't punctured the chest cavity and wasn't internally bleeding, and stitched her up. Dr. Marikay was kind and helpful. The rest of the staff was so caring and kind to both Stevie and myself, and when I called back multiple times with a million questions, they handled me with continued grace and kindness. To those of you complaining about cost, it's all about perspective. In other towns, veterinary care is more expensive. Emergency vet care at an emergency clinic is WAY more expensive. I highly recommend acquiring pet insurance for your fur family members. Yes, it costs money each year. But it is also there in case of emergencies like this one, to help offset the costs incurred. I'm so grateful to Dr. Marikay and the rest of the staff at PRVH for taking such good care of my sweet girl.

I work in healthcare and volunteer as an animal advocate. My sweet Lola had nausea and vomiting…read morexone otherwise still playing eating running. Because she is 9 I decided to get labs and have a vet visit. A vet never stepped into room the entire visit nor spoke w me. I was provided a shockingly high vet bill over $1000 and the vet felt it was ok not to see me or my pet? Most vets examine pets in your presence Her labs did not show dehydration and they provided her iv fluids even though she only threw up once and was tolerating liquids without nausea and vomiting. If you need xray or labs for your pets definitely price compare. $621 is not the going rate for such test as I have worked in pet rescue over 30 yrs . I palpated my Lola abdomen and she was not tender They prescribed gabapentin that is off label and not fda approved although my pet exhibits no symptoms of pain I declined. Propectalin for diarrhea was prescribed for $80 my dog was not having diarrhea. I am a woman of integrity and it is the vets responsibility to provide diagnostic etc etc I was so upset over the treatment I did not ask for vet to stop by to speak to me it should not be my responsibility to do so. definitely will not ever go back Prescribing unnecessary meds is not ethical When I informed the vet tech I would not come back the owner called my volunteer group who does that? My volunteer group has nothing to do w my personal pet The owner called the lead of a pet rescue to discuss what went down w my personal pet. The owner should have called me the pet owner not someone else. I am no longer w the volunteer group who uses this vet office for care of their rescues so therefore I can now share my opinion. I will pay extra $$$ to organizations w integrity excellence and caring and I did not have this experience at port royal vet. to future clients please call other vets for price checks on labs and imaging or meds prior to scheduling here. One last thing you pay $65 for the vet visit over the phone when you schedule They deduct $62 at check out So essentially office visit is $68 Best of luck Marikay Trying to provide me unnecessary treatments for my dog is not ethical and calling someone to discuss me and my pet is unjust You can't do that You need to call the owner of the pet Best of luck I will not read any replies trying to placate the situation or undermine it a kitten screaming in an pain w huge abdomen and unable to poo screams obstruction PRV kept this kitten for two weeks running up huge vet bills to only say it had obstruction This is just not right That poor baby suffered at your hands I cried over that sweet foster and still do Who could do that My hope is for improvement not certain that is possible

I honestly do not understand any of the negative reviews posted. I moved back to Beaufort in 2017…read moreand was very nervous about finding a new vet for my two boys. Their Vet in New York was absolutely wonderful and understood how neurotic I can be when it comes to my dogs. Dr. Fetterman and the rest of the staff are wonderful. Dr. Fetterman also understands and manages how I can be when it comes to them. I just lost my boy Riley on Monday June 9, 2025. Riley was my world and loved unconditionally; he was a kumbaya boy; my travel buddy, my boat ride or die and my swimming partner (you jump...I jump) for 16 wonderful years. He was a brother, a best friend and a playmate to Cooper for 11 years. To get back on topic...they both have/had separation anxiety (Riley a bit more than Cooper). Dr. Fetterman was the only Vet to put Riley on a medication that actually worked. Dr. Fetterman and the rest of the staff at Sea Island genuinely care for both fur-baby and human. I trust them unreservedly. Thank you Sea Island for everything that you do for my fur-family and Beaufort's fur-community. Tracy Della Pia (Landry)

I later learned that the fluids only cost about two dollars a bag at a pharmacy. Another vet told me about it and gave me a prescription. I was new in town and my dog of 12 years was dying.
