Ive had some major lower back issues for the last 5 years or so and had a recent back surgery which resulted in a lot of scar tissue build up in my back, which resulted me in coming here to see Dr. Dan and the friendly staff here. My dad had purchased a couple chiropractor sessions for me so I could get aligned and to help focus on the pain and stiffness I was having. Glad my dad recommended this chiropractor since it helped me a lot. I felt refreshed and felt like the treatment and tables were helpful to break up the stiffness in my back. I could only do minimal exercises and stretches with Dr. Dan during my visits due to the scar tissue being so compacted in my lower back, but from the few times I visited with Dr. Dan, I felt some immediate relief that had me standing less hunched over than when I arrived. I'm glad I was able to come here and have a few appointments with Dr. Dan because I feel like he really knows his stuff and suggests the right exercises, stretches and machines that are needed based on your pain and discomfort. I also have a Groupon to come back and get a massage which I would be using soon, so I will update my massage experience once I get it finished. read more

I've come to Lavanga a number of times but only for massages. I first got a package for them on Groupon. They've stopped using Groupon now but offer their own packages. Danielle has been great. She focuses on any areas you let her know of beforehand and tailors the massage accordingly. The only minor downside is that scheduling is a bit hard on the weekends so you end up having to book it a month or more in advance. read more

I purchased a group for a 60 minute massage. First of all, the office is a disaster and so unwelcoming. Things piled everywhere. The receptionist showed me around the office and their new salt room -- a total joke! It is a couple of salt lamps you can purchase on Amazon and some outside lawn chairs in a room. I can't believe they get away with this. I've been to a real salt room, and paid much less than what they are charging. The entire time I was in the "office" all I was told was how great "Dr. Dan" is and what he offers. Weight loss (pills and shakes!), a salt room (the joke as mentioned above) and his 5 Steps to Wellness which seems like something you should take a work professional development class, not a chiropractic office. My massage therapist was late and spent literally THE ENTIRE TIME talking about Dr. Dan. It was actually kind of scary. AND HOW INAPPROPRIATE TO TALK ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS AND PERSONAL TRAINING WHEN YOU ARE IN SUCH A VULNERABLE POSITION. I kid you not, I did not have one moment of peace the entire massage. If I wanted to chat with a stranger, I'd go to Starbucks. It was a literal joke and definitely wasn't a massage. I am not even sure the massage therapist is licensed. Because if she was, she should have it revoked. I left shaking. The massage therapist finished the massage and said "I'll go get Dr. Dan for your free evaluation." I said no thanks, and she ran out and I never once saw her again. I should also add I heard the massage therapist talking about clients and that "Groupon Clients" don't get preference. If a client comes in, they are priority and "Groupon Clients" can wait or leave. REALLY? ISN'T THE IDEA OF GROUPON TO TRY A NEW BUSINESS AND PERHAPS BECOME A CLIENT? read more

I bought a Groupon for a 60 minute massage. When I entered 15 minutes early, as they had requested, I was given a tour of the facility. The receptionist had a very low speaking voice and I could hardly understand her, though I did catch the intent to show me vitamins and services that cost extra. Then I was asked to sit in a chair and watch a brief video about their practice. I was then given a three page document to fill out about my health, reasons for coming in, and my own beliefs about health and wellness. All of this took more than the 15 minutes they had allotted, so I was late going back to the massage room. The therapist was very brisk. She did read my paperwork while I was getting ready, but that was the last time I felt like I was being pampered in any way. I saved up for this massage and I wasted my precious time and money, since it was the worst one I've ever gotten. The room was absolutely freezing since the vent was directly over the massage table. She didn't ask me about the temperature of the room (standard practice), so I asked about warming it up a little since I was shivering. She told me there was nothing she could do, since she'd have to "stand on a chair" to reposition the vent. She then disappeared and must have turned it off, since it stopped blowing for a while. As soon as she came back, she started the upsell. I was told that a Swedish massage was light pressure and that I really should pay an extra $15 for the deep tissue, since that was her specialty. She even demonstrated the difference so that I would be convinced. I explained that I couldn't pay more and that a Swedish massage has always been fine for me. She then proceeded to mention that I should've done the upgrade at least one more time, since her clients all see her for that particular service. Her strokes were long and fast, neither of which is helpful for sore muscles or tension. It was more like she was pushing my skin around, rather than working any of the tense areas. She never once asked if there were spots I needed help with, or how the pressure was. Both of those questions have been standard practice in every other massage I've had. She continued to talk for the entire massage, trying to convince me to purchase their other products and services. She asked me very personal questions, such as, "Do you date?" and "Do your children see their father?" and then punctuated my responses with phrases like, "God bless you." It felt very intrusive and inappropriate, especially since I was trying to relax and enjoy the experience. Needless to say, I was not upset when she wrapped it up a few minutes early. I was not happy with my purchase, nor will I ever return (even though they gave me a coupon for a reduced price massage). The massage was short, impersonal, and seemed like an excuse to try and squeeze more money out of me. I am a single mom and I saved up for that massage, and it was a total waste. The constant talking and personal questions, the rough manner in which she traded pillows and slapped a mask onto my face, her inability to ask even the most basic massage questions, and the purposeful upsell strategies made me very uncomfortable and disappointed. The only window of hope was a smiling receptionist who checked me in and out (took about two seconds each time). She was lovely. Everyone and everything else? A waste of time and money, and that's why I'm writing all of this. Hopefully you won't have to waste your own. read more

I got a Groupon for 3 massages and I completely regret it. The entire time you're getting a massage she's Indian burning you because her hands are dry. She also talks the entire time and tells you her life and sells you so much stuff. Even if you just say uh huh or I see, you will still get this at the front desk " so she said you want to buy these * shows multiple pill bottles*". It's honestly the worst massage experience. Its a shame I had the experience of working for a person that I thought cared about his employees only to find that he doesn't... Not only was I told to give my key back after he screamed in my face but when I received my pay I was screwed on that end too ... I came here several times for massage and this time I had THE BEST massage ever. Donna did a fantastic job to relax and unknotted my muscle. We had a nice conversation, she kept it professional and well known about her job. The staffs are all very friendly and always smile. I also met Dr. Lavanga, he's very pleasant and patience, he spent time to explain every detail about the muscle. Got it ? I made an appointment with Dr.Lavanga Since I was damn near unable to walk or sit without having constant back pain. My 1st appointment took awhile mainly since I was a new client (paperwork,flexibility checks) but I honestly didn't mind. I just wanted my back pain to go away. After a few adjustments,stretches and lying down on a massage table with an ice pack I felt and still feel back to %100 ... 8 or 9 days of constant pain, gone in less than 45minutes. Amazing. I bought a groupon for a couples hot stone massage at Dr. Lavanga's office. The massages were incredible! I felt paralyzed (in a good way) for the rest of the day. I've had several massages at fancy spa's and still nothing compared to the massage I recieved from this office. They hit all the right pressure points, and relieved the tension in my back (I like deep tissue). The staff was friendly, and accomodating. They even gave us coupons for our next visit. The only negative comment I have is that the room wasn't very relaxing, nor did it have any kind of ambience. It was a tiny, dingy space. Also, the massage therapists talked to us the whole time. My husband purchased a Groupon massage package for me, one per month, starting in December. I have had 3 so far, all beautifully done by Donna, and I can't wait for my next appointment. I elected to upgrade to a deep tissue massage for a small premium. Donna listened carefully to what my needs and concerns were, and addressed every point on my list. The first massage was so good and intense, i actually felt a bit lightheaded when i got off the table. I was a bit sore the day after, but I knew what I was in for, and expected the discomfort and then the great feeling afterwards. Be good to yourself - have a massage, and ask for Donna. I will start with the fact that I have had hundreds of massages ( car accident and general need due to labor job )trained myself and family members who do massages also.. Michelle is excellent, I give her 5 stars! Out of at least 30 plus people who have given me a massage, I have been impressed each time.. Yes, it's a 15 dollar upgrade to deep muscle, which I have had with other groupons, that's still 35 for a massage and I tip also, 15 -20 bucks.. But that's normal and less then normal.. I don't like a fluffy gentle massage, I need to get dug into.. Yes I will agree with the other people with the sales to other stuff in the gym.. The Lavanga 'Circle of Wellness' is a great holistic health ideal ! We can all benefit from a number of its well-taken points. A body-welcoming and very appreciated Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage is a fine starter, especially to a normally-aging body. Any one of us with various arthritis types or bursitis...or any other skeletal -itis types will be soothed by these massages. Donna does a wonderful job with these ! Although I haven't as yet explored any of the other offered treatments or products, I hope to return for another session. I'll also attempt to get my husband interested in any assistance he can get with his spinal stenosis and balance issues, which add up to a type of parkinsonism: axonal polyneuropathy. Do not waste your time like I did!! I bought a groupon of 5 massages expecting to have a fabulous experience like I had with many other groupons and I got so disappointed at the end. They re-schedule my appointment twice, saying the therapist had to leave early since my appointment was at 6 pm. And then one day before of my appointment after waiting 1 1/2 month they forcefully asked if I could come earlier. I said it would be tied but most likely I would not be able to since I had a 35 miles commuting. Without my consent they shifted the appointment. So when I got to the place, they said my appointment was 30 minutes earlier than what I originally had I scheduled a long time ago. They decided to shift my appointment because they had another customer paying full price. It was actually the first time I felt totally discriminated for having a Groupon voucher. I have been going for chiropractic care and massages at this office for over 2 years already. Donna is excelent, great massage and always ready to help especially when I am in pain. Same with Dr Dan, very good care, patient and ready to help in the best way he can. I bought a groupon for $29 for a Swedish massage but had to upgrade $15 because I was pregnant. I'm not really sure what the added cost is for just because I have to lie on my side instead of on my stomach but I paid anyway. The office is hard to find so I did have to call when I was lost. They must get that a lot because they gave me good directions over the phone. They told me to arrive 10-15 mins early and I thought it was because I had to fill out paperwork but it was so they could show me a video about the chiropractor and to sell me other services. That was tacky. When I left they kept trying to schedule a "complimentary" consultation with the doctor. The actual massage was amazing. The massage therapist's name was Oksana and I highly recommend her. She did a great job and I was very relaxed when I left. If they didn't try to insistently sell me on the other services I would have given them a 5 star rating because the massage was that good. read more

I'm surprised by some of the extreme reactions to what appear to be minimal complaints or things that would be resolved by just saying something. I also got a Swedish massage groupon but upgraded to the deep tissue which is totally worth the $15. I understood with a cheap massage is going to come a bit of selling of the practice. But after that I have started going to Dr. Dan himself and he is an excellent chiropractor. I have always been alittle apprehensive about going to a chiropractor but I feel so much better now. A Swedish massage doesn't help me so I always get an awesome deep tissue massage. Oksana is the best and doesn't talk at all. It is so relaxing. Perhaps there should be separate reviews for Groupon massages as that isn't really a review or experience with the chiropractor. The staff is super nice and helpful. They have worked with me to make sure that my insurance covers as much of the adjustments as possible. They are available all the time and have even emailed the receptionist at 8pm at night and got a response! This was a horrible experience! I scheduled a massage. On the day of my scheduled massage, part of my tooth fell out while I was flossing. I made an emergency appointment with the dentist to get a filling. I called lavanga to reschedule my appointment and I was told I would be charged regardless. This is entirely unacceptable. I purchased a groupon for 5 massages at a very good price. However, to really get a good massage you have to pay an upgraded fee so it isn't as good as you think. Also, today I had to call because my car wouldn't start so I had to cancel, you would think a business that was trying to reach another market of clientele wouldn't tell you that you lost the massage cause you had to cancel for a valid reason. This place says its all about the circle of wellness , in my opinion this place is all about getting you buy things and trying to sale pitch you through the whole massage that are not necessary so they can make more money instead of a place to help you get better because if that was the case they would understand that circumstances happen. Donna is the massage therapist that violated 2 of my patients rights, one is the right to refused treatment,everytime I go there for my massage she is pushing me to see DR Lavanga for my neck problems , I made her aware that I have herniated disc and disc compression and my neurologist advise me not to have neck manipulation. Donna still insisting me to see DR Lavanga and was even asked who knows my health better is the doctor or myself. I told her I trust my doctor and i know that she will do the best for me. Donna said that dont believe/trust evertyhing my Doctor tells me, medical doctors are after your money they dont care about your health, so you better take care of yourself. I told Donna that I knew my doctor since 2006 she's been taking care of me and I dont think she will let my disease detiriorated. Instead of stopping there she told me that she is sorry for me, I said to her dont be sorry for me, I know what is good for me , then she repeated it again she said No, I am sorry for you, for your Ignorance. I told her if she will continue harrasing me and disrespecting me I will not coming back and will get a refund for the massages.Donna stopped doing my massages and told me go ahead you can leave and get your refund , left me in the room. She is very proud of kicking me out. When i came down to discuss the incident with DR Lavanga , DR Lavanga said to me I am sorry for what happen, everybody has a bad day and Donna has a bad day today. DR. Lavanga does'nt realize that Donna can not advise someone medically. it is not in her scope of practice. She is a massage therapist. she is not a neurologist/medical doctor to advise me what is best for me. She cant advise force someone to see DR lavanga even if patient refused to see them.She cant tell a patient that medical doctor is after patients money , doesnt care about patients health. and will insist that Dr lavanga is very good will take care of my neck and will feel better after he manipulates my neck. And who is after patients money now isnt it Dr Lavanga now because he has an employee that will do everything she can to get you to see the Chiropractor. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - READ THE FILTERED REVIEWS!!!! Used Groupon. Sat through the video and met Dr. Lavanga which, I understand, is necessary as he is offering a discount on massages to bring new patients into his office. I get it! First massage was not horrible; what I expected. Second massage tonight was identical to the other reviewers who experienced the hideous hands of Donna! Didn't stop talking.... when I declined the deep tissue upgrade, she just rubbed lotion on me! After five minutes of her incessant banter and inept hands, I politely asked if we could stop the conversation so that I could relax and try to enjoy to which she answered that she DID mind and that talking during the massage was what she was supposed to do! I told her that we were done!!!! She ran out of the room to advise "Dr. Dan" what had happened and he pretty much told me to call Groupon and get a refund. NO interest whatsoever in the details of the experience. Of course not! He didn't get a patient so he's better off getting rid of me; however, my daughter had just called today to book a massage and meet him because she DOES have the beginning of back issues and WAS in need of his services. STAY AWAY !!! They refused to honor the Living Social Voucher. Saying it was only for New clients, where there is no mention of that anywhere, even on the fine print. I live a hour away, only to find out I wasted my time and money. They tried to do a bait n switch, by saying we won't except the living social voucher, but we will give you a different coupon off out regular price, which amounted to a lot more than what I already paid for. To make matters worse, after many phone calls to living social to get my money back, instead they contacted Dr. Dan, and emailed back my attorney saying that he would now accept my voucher to call them back. I called them twice, and left two messages with his employees, and n0 call back. On the third time, he answered and said I know why your calling, and it is my day off, to call back next week. I was floored by his total disregard for me as a person, and a client just trying to get a message from a paid coupon. By trying to have what I thought was a professional place to relieve stress, they multiplied it 10 fold. He has a lot of nerve treating people that way. I did file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and look forward to seeing him in small claims court. Nobody should have to go through this type of unprofessional behavior, and be treated in this manner. I wouldn't be surprised if they get shut down soon, if this is how they treat paying customers. DR. LAVANGA is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL & THERAPISTS ARE VERY INEXPERIENCED. STAY AWAY! We signed up for yelp account today specifically to warn others about this place after today's HORRIBLE experience from start to finish. Truth about this place lies in the FILTERED reviews below and I ABSOLUTELY can not understand HOW or WHY the filtered reviews got there. Yelp should definitely follow up with the individuals whose reviews somehow erroneously ended up in the filtered reviews to verify the truth and place these accurate filtered reviews back where they belong in the unfiltered section. This place rescheduled our appointment FOUR times, including once WITHOUT our consent and if yelp or Groupon want proof, I have voicemails the office left us. They just leave you a message on the voicemail stating the new date and time. Made me wonder if they kept rescheduling us for fully paying customers. Today, my husband and I had the worst massage sessions ever in life. My husband and I each bought a groupon for 5 sessions of swedish massage for a total of 10 massages. My husband who is in his 70's has consistently had over 40 yrs of weekly swedish and deep tissue massages and I've (in my mid 60's) consistently had swedish massages 5-6 times a week for past 35 yrs both in the United States and all over the world as a president of a major company overseas for many years for my husband and as a concert pianist for myself. Today, when my husband and I got to this office, we were forced to watch about 10 minutes of advertisement about their practice. When we questioned why we had to watch the video when there was no mention of having to do this on the Groupon we purchased, they very curtly said because they are chiro office and that is what they do. My husband had Donna and I had Ocsanna for swedish massage, which for both of us consisted of literally just rubbing oil on our backs, with little to no pressure. When we asked for more pressure (in other words, swedish massage we actually paid for), they both kept trying to upsell deep tissue massage for additional money, which would have completely defeated the purpose of buying Groupon. In addition, they kept talking nonstop during the entire massage session about all the other programs/products this place offers in which we had no interest. Both massage therapists insisted that literally just rubbing oil on the back was swedish massage. But, as very experienced/seasoned massage recipients from various providers all over the world due to our professions, it was very clear that either the therapists had NOOOOOO idea what a swedish massage is or had no desire to give swedish massage we purchased from groupon with the motive of having us upgrade our massage to deep tissue for additional money. For myself, Ocsanna asked few times if I wanted deep tissue upgrade to which I said no. She asked if I wanted more pressure and I said yes. At the end of the session, she insisted that I pay additional $20 for getting deep tissue massage that I never consented to because she insisted I said yes to wanting more pressure which is appropriate for swedish massage. I felt that she thought she could pull one over me for the additional upgrade charge because my speaking English is not completely fluent, despite my receptive English language skills being fine (My husband and I both received our graduate/post-college education in the United States). When my daughter and I questioned additional charge, the therapist started yelling, "Fine, then I'll pay $20 of my own money for the deep tissue massage." Dr. Lavanga rushed out of his office to say in raised voice that they can't work with us, not to return and to call Groupon to get our money back. Then the therapist Ocsanna literally shoved our tip money back at us saying, "And I don't want your tip either." We called Groupon immediately after returning home to file a complaint which was escalated. We have been die hard loyal Groupon customers and have never experienced anythings like this. Groupon, as per their complete satisfaction guarantee immediately refunded our money back and reassured us that they will escalate the case and do a full investigation. Groupon should contact Yelp to unfilter the filtered reviews when Groupon realizes after their investigation that the truth lies in the filtered reviews on yelp for THIS massage place. Yelp really needs to revamp their filtered review process because for loyal yelpers myself, who initially only saw the unfiltered reviews for this place, it is really misleading. AWFUL! I should have listened to the filtered reviews! Hands down the WORST massage I've ever had. Like other reviewers, I purchased a Groupon for 3 Swedish massages. I have never been there before so there was no issue with them accepting my voucher. Probably the only positive thing about this experience! My masseuse begins my massage by demonstrating the difference between a Swedish and deep tissue. I've had both Swedish and deep tissue massages many times before so I know what to expect from both of them. The type I paid for had absolutely NO pressure whatsoever. Nothing at all, which was unlike any of my previous massages at other places. All she did was put oils and lotion all over my body. She tried to up sell the deep tissue for and additional $15 making the total cost equivalent to a full price massage elsewhere. I opted out of the upgrade out of principle, my logic being - what is the point of purchasing something through Groupon at a discount if I could just do a little research, find somewhere myself and give them my business directly! She then began talk the entire session telling me all about Dr. Dan's "circle of wellness", her personal success story and all he does for people even though the receptionist had already made me watch a video he produced on the subject. I felt like she was attempting to brainwash me. I was not interested in anything other than a relaxing massage which this was anything but. I think left with more tension than I arrived. I then immediately called Groupon the second I walked out the door to complain. Fortunately they refunded my money for the remaining 2 massages so I don't have to return to that awful place ever again! Everything the recent, "filtered" reviewers wrote was 100% correct. I bought a package directly from the practice of 5 swedish massages for $100. I received two of the massages with different massage therapists and was very pleased. On my third appt. I had Donna. She started rubbing oil on me and proceeded to explain how this was what a swedish massage is, she teaches massage, and if you wanted any, and I mean any type of pressure at all, that was considered a deep tissue massage which would be an extra $15. She showed me the difference between the swedish and the deep tissue. I've been getting swedish massages for many years and have tried tons of different masseuses. This was totally a bait and switch tactic. I told her I was not paying an additional amount, and if she was just going to rub oil on my body, which is not a massage at all, it wasn't going to do anything for me and was a waste of my time. She agreed and said that's why I should upgrade for the additional $15. I wasn't going to be coerced into paying an additional $15 to have a normal swedish massage, which is what I paid for. I ended the appt. After I got dressed and came downstairs, Donna came out and said Dr. Dan offered to refund my remaining money of $60. I didn't want a refund, I wanted to be able to use my other two massages and have another masseuse do it. I asked the receptionist if I could speak with Dr. Dan. He refused to speak with me. I've known Dr. Dan for a long, long time. He's a dynamic speaker and I've always thought he was a nice guy. I'm not only very disappointed in my experience after wasting my time driving back and forth in the rain, but I'm floored Dr. Dan didn't even have the decency to speak with me and is partaking in shady business practices. When I heard he was not willing to speak with me I accepted my money back. Most masseuses charge between $60 - $70 these days. I've bought many Groupon or Living Social swedish massages for $39 over the years, which I feel is a very good deal. I would have rather paid $35 per massage up front, than have someone try to scam me by trying to force me to pay an additional $15 over the $20 I was charged expecting to have a normal swedish massage. Most people know what a swedish massage is, and even the ones that don't aren't going to appreciate someone trying to throw a $15 upgrade on them after the fact. Very unprofessional. I know Dr. Dan is successful and I thought he was a smart and savvy businessman. I realize he's promoting the massages to feed other aspects of his business, which totally makes sense. Nothing wrong with that. Some people will be interested and others won't. Even if someone isn't interested, doesn't mean they won't refer people. Unfortunately, before this incident I referred two friends who bought the package, and one friend signed up for additional services. The worst thing you can do in business is to lose someone's trust. This place is a fraud practicing in Bait and Switch as mentioned by another Yelp review. First I was given a hard time with my Groupon as the person at the front desk said that the Groupon was for "new customers only". The disclaimer on my voucher specifically stated that you could not receive services in the past 6months and I had saitisfied that rule since my last visit was over 6 months ago. Reluctantly they took my voucher after consulting with Dr Dan. Next, despite the fact that I made my massage appt with someone in particular (Michelle H?) who I had used before (and gave a good massage) this was not honored. Instead another person (who I had a bad massage with previously) was thrust upon me without any warning or notice despite my 2hr appointment with a selected therapist. I tried to keep an open mind however, this person proceed to up sell me to a "deep tissue" stating that all they would do for 2 hours was "rub massage oil on me" and that there would not be any benefit. I have had dozens of swedish massages before and never had an issue. I was left little choice, laying on the table but to elect to upsell from my groupon another 30$ for the 2 hours. Next, I told the massage therapist that I was there to relax and that I wanted to be calm and quiet when they started to tell me of all the things that Dr Dan can do. The next two hours was nothing short of mind rape. After about 10 minutes of nonstop talk. When I specifically asked for quiet relaxation the massage therapist refused. She said to me that this was not that sort of place and not what they do. There was total disregard for me as a paying customer and the lack of respect clearly showed. I am now stuck with another 3 massages (I purchased a series of 5) and actually dread the prospect of going back even with the desired massage therapist. I plan to call Groupon to try to get a refund on what's left and report their tactics to both Groupon and the Better Business Bureau. I have purchased other Groupons for massages in the past and this was the most degrading experience I have ever encountered. I would like to state that I totally get the holistic concept of massage, chiropractic, nutrition and exercise. I did not need to hear for 2 straight hours the benefits of each in an attempt to sell me on the these additional products/services. I deserved to be given more respect than I was shown. read more
