I have been here before and had good experiences although this time was not the same. I came to get my nails done before engagement pictures. I got shellac although they pushed dip. The girl doing my nails was on the phone with one air pod in her ear and cut my finger when she wasn't paying attention. The tools she was using look like they had not been sanitized in awhile. Since I was sick for three days, I didn't have an appointment because I wasn't sure when I would feel well enough to sit for an hour. However, when I arrived and was taken to a staff person immediately, I told myself just to make the best of it and I tried, seriously to talk with the guy doing my nails. He was pleasant, at first, in his broken English. It was difficult for me to understand him with a thick mask AND the plexiglass between us, so I asked him to repeat himself, maybe, a dozen times. I asked him to do a good job on my cuticles. Oh, he cut them really short, so short I yelped 2-3 times! On top of that, he didn't use a disinfected tool! I asked him how to get strong nails, and it took him three times to tell me I could buy a supplement over-the-counter. I asked him if he would do a hand massage, but he only rubbed my forearms and NEVER MY HANDS at all! The color turned out gorgeous, but he tried to UPCHARGE me $5.00 for "removing my old color"! What a scam artist. I still tipped him $3.00 for how nice my nails turned out, but he didn't thank me immediately. He waited until I turned to leave to say, "Thanks" as he turned away. I didn't feel valued as a customer. They should value their customers better, especially since the store only had a handful of customers. I also HATE it when the staff speak to each other in a language I cannot understand. This is so RUDE, but many stores' staff do this. read more

Went there to get a new set of dip nails. Got there at 10:45 and started soaking off at 10:50. At 11:15, I was still soaking. Stephen the owner yelled at me when I said I had waited 25 minutes and told me it was 5 minutes. I had not been upset until this point but I don't like being called a liar in front of a whole room full of people. They were short handed and I was patient up until he screamed at me and was rude. I had been a customer for over a year. I will NOT be returning. Very disappointed in this business. Also, the work they do is not consistent. My sister and I wanted a pedi day together but that didn't happen. It was about 45 minutes sitting the chair and cold water before anyone came over and did anything. I have ingrown toenail's and don't need a non licensed person trying to fix them. Non the less it was painful and after I had told her she still continued. And last but not least very very dirty. Did the shape okay but when she glued the nails she glued on underneath and I have a huge chuck there. When I got my nails dried she stopped me so she could leave. She told me they were dry and they weren't. The thumb is completely rough and they turned like yellow on the white. All of them have dents. read more

I have gone here a few times and haven't really been impressed with the outcome. Now I've only had pedicures and manicures, and I try to give places a couple chances till I make up my mind. The few pedicures I've gotten I have asked for them to smooth out my big toe nails. I kind of have ridges going across, so when nail polish is applied, especially lighter coats you can clearly see them. So it kind of looks like I have light and dark alternating strips almost. I will admit the first time I didn't even think of saying something. But the other two times I did. My big toe nails barely got buffed and there were still the two ridges you could clearly see. One of my manicures were fine but the other one, There was so much of my natural nail showing around the edges. They all were friendly and the leg massages were nice but the outcome I paid for wasn't so nice. I most likely won't return. read more

This is a beautiful nail salon. My nail technician did an amazing job. She actually listened to all my little nags about how I like my nails to be done. And there wasn't any side conversations in the language that would make me feel like they were talking shit about me. They offered me water during my service. All around good and clean salon. First off, the people are all extremely nice here. HOWEVER I do not recommend going to *La Vie on 16th* I got dip nails like usual. I know the unsanitary thoughts about dip and I always thought whatever...BUT NOW I don't know if I'll ever dip or get my nails done again. I got my nails off because I didn't want my 1 inch nails anymore or continue with the upkeep. First, they cut my tips off with nail cutters which felt like they were going snap my true nails in half. I thought they usually soak them and then file!?? Anyways, then they burned every finger while filing away the dip. And yes, I told them that they were burning my fingers REALLY badly. Hot to the touch. THEN when they switched nail techs, I asked the new person if they had any idea what this spot on my pinky nail could be. My worst fear being cancer like that dip nail photo that's floating around Facebook. All they said was, "oh it's a fungus. It will take a week to disappear. Usually will happen when water gets trapped in your nail in a crack." Thank God but. Okay. I've had my nails on since my bday (12/31) and just recently noticed this. They dipped me 6-7 times so something was stuck between those layers. The tech tried filing it off & now my nail is VERY thin, almost a hole drilled right thru & hurting. My nail is lifting right in the middle of my pinky nail because the tech used the edge of the drill to file as much of the fungus away. read more

We chose this place based on the current rating of 4.6 so needless to say expectations were that it was a decent place. Unfortunately, that was NOT the case. In all my years of getting my nails done, this is the worst experience ever. They were not friendly at all and they didn't even attempt to try to communicate with us. If I could do 0 stars I would, this is the worst pedicure j have received. I paid $60 for a pedicure that looked like complete trash. Automatically they start trying to up sell me on the most expensive pedicure, $62 and it's already $15 more for the gel polish I receive. I pick a milk and honey which was $45, my friend started before me and also did not have prior gel to remove. My pedicure ended before hers, not only was she yelling at me hot to move, smacking my foot to put it back in the water, she also was throwing around the shaver for the bottom of my foot so carelessly. She cut my cuticles down to nothing, they were so raw they almost started bleeding. When she had passed me off to get painted the lady even stopped and spoke to the other lady I'm guessing saying it needs reshaped because it looked so bad. They are lucky I paid them but they did not receive a tip and they WILL never get a recommendation from me. Get your shit together La Vie. read more

The woman did my nails nicely, however she went to trim some of my hangnails and pulled out a hangnail clipper from her box of things and started trimming. I never saw her sanitize it at all. The place is overall kind of dirty, the chairs are all stained and the counters are messy and dusty. However the price is cheaper than most, and my nails turned out just how I wanted. read more

THIS WAS LITERALLY MY WORST NAIL EXPERIENCE EVER IN LIFE!!! I went in yesterday after work to get a fill and my toes painted. I'm not used to getting a warm welcome when i walk in so when i didn't get one this time i wasn't surprised at all. Once i walked in the older man (which i assume is the owner) said "pick a color". As i start to look for a color i notice the man standing there just staring at me with an annoyed look on his face which made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable!!! So i ended up just grabbing a color that i don't really like just because i felt rushed. So as i'm walking to my seat the same man looks at me and says "If you don't know what you want, don't come. We busy!" And YES, those were his exact words! Crazy right?! They weren't even busy! Also, I had been in there literally less than 5 minutes. Then i watched him greet everyone else that came in behind me with a smile and laughing and joking with them. I don't understand why it was different with me as i've never had any issue before that. Then my fill doesn't even look like they filled it and my 10 yr old could've painted them better. Smh Then when it was time to go i watched him tell everyone else goodbye as they walked out the door, and guess what happened when i walked out! NOTHING!! He was beyond thee rudest person i've met and my nail tech also acted like she'd rather be doing anything else rather than do my nails. I was SO uncomfortable. She didn't say one word to me! This place was horrible. The entire time we were there (for manicures/fills) they didn't speak to us. When they we asked how much it was going to be they gave us one price for a fill but it wound up being more than if we had started from scratch; over $70 for fills. They use inferior paint as it started chipping and breaking away with every day activities (where as I've been to other places that the paint stays solid until I come back) almost the next day. And the actual acrylic started chipping a week later. Again, not something that NORMALLY happens from just every day use. The reason we went here was to see if they were any better than our normal place. They didn't even trim the cuticles prior to globbing on the acrylic so it looked like they were already grown out after I had to do that myself. I will NEVER be back here and highly recommend literally any other place in Cedar Rapids before wasting your money here. read more
