BEWARE!!! Hiring…read moreDoug was the worst mistake we made. We hired Doug to build an addition onto our house. He was suppose to start on 7/6/26, but didn't show up until 7/16/26 10 late. From the start he told us it would take him 2 months to complete, he even asked if he could work on it 7 days a week, we said sure, well that didn't happen. We paid Doug $30,000 up front to buy materials and get started, and then 2 weeks after he started I paid him another $15,000 and then had to go pay for materials, because some how he had already spent the $45k we have given him. We were lucky if Doug and his employees would show up maybe 4 days a week, and when they would show up they would only work 4-5 hours a day, only a few days did they work 8 hours, always had excuses as to why they couldn't come to work or why his employees weren't there. It takes them a week to build the sub floor and laying the Advan tech tongue and grove flooring, well through out the entire flooring there are gaps in it anywhere from 1/8"-3/4" of an inch, when I asked him about, he said it's suppose to be like that, I take his word on it. Now comes the framing of the walls, Doug removed the siding from the side of the main house, and in the process torn a lot of the house wrap, so when it rained I started getting water in my Kitchen and basement, and after bringing it to his attention he still failed to reseal the main house. It takes him 4 1/2 weeks to get the flooring and framing of the walls, done, but never getting the roof built. Well here comes all the rain. I tell doug I want the addition to be covered to protect it from the rain and keep the flooring from getting soaked, he told me that the advan tech flooring was water resistant so we didn't need to cover it, I made him cover it once, and after that he refused. Well we started get flooding rains, which was leaving 2" on standing water on it, and he would refuse to come out and try and dry it out. We end up getting a week on down pouring rain, he keeps telling me the flooring is good. So I contact the manufacturer, they informed me the flooring is water resistant, not water proof and it wasn't made to be left with standing water. So what does Doug do he goes and drills 1" hole in all the flooring to drain the water into my crawl space. I think I made point about the flooring, onto the outside walls. Doug wanted to do 1/2" zip system, no problem, but when he installed it he put up both 1/2" and 7/16 sheeting. Figure that one out. 2 different sizes of sheeting for the outside walls. You can see in the pictures, brown is 1/2" green is 7/16" then they completely butchered it cutting the doors and windows out. When I asked Doug about it, his exact words were "it will all be covered up you won't see it" and "trust me I know what I'm doing" well that was my mistake because I hired him and trusted him to do the job and he failed on every aspect of it. I ended up having to fire him, because he didn't want to fix his mistakes or show up for work. Since I fired him I hired a home inspector to come and inspect his work, well the inspector said it was one of the worst builds he had ever seen. So now I'm out $45,000 I paid to Doug and out of that $45k he only spent $12,500 on materials. Now I have hired another contractor that has had to tear it down and start all over rebuilding it. Also Doug quoted us to do the plumbing, which you have to be licensed in our county to do the plumbing, which he isn't licensed at all in Ohio to do plumbing, he tried to talk me into getting the permit and saying I as the home owner was doing the work. I also rented a dumpster for the project, but Doug and his employees were too lazy to clean up after themselves, left trash, cigarette butts and scraps all the addition and my property. I would definitely NOT recommend Doug to do any work at all. Worst contractor ever. I give him a minus 5 star review, the work was so bad I couldn't even give it a one star. Which you can see from the pictures and video I posted to the review
