We just returned from Ireland and had a great visit to Lawcus Farm. Mark and Ann-Marie are warm and have created a lovely spot in the countryside. My kids aged 6 and 8 loved visiting the goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats, donkeys, and Guinea pigs. We enjoyed the view and walk by the river. There has been such attention to every detail here that it comes through. Make sure to stay at least two nights so you can enjoy the village of Kells and relax at the farm.

We are finishing up the last few days of a 2 week holiday in Ireland and made this our final BnB stay. Without a doubt this was one of our two favorite places on the trip. Ann-Marie and Mark have built (literally) an idyllic spot straight out of a Tolkien fantasy! The accommodations, county side views, animals and (not least) Ann-Marie's culinary skills created a memory we won't soon forget!

And, wow!... the breakfasts are outstanding, and so beautifully presented. But what made this place truly special are the kind and caring people who worked there. We really enjoyed getting to know them, and their stories. Our favorite places for dinner and within walking distance were: Rive Gauche, Rinoccini, Zuni, and Petronelli. Enjoyed a private walking tour by Pat Moylan, Kilkenny Walking Tour that the Butler house lined up for us. Pat is truly passionate about the history of Kilkenny, and we learned so much! And, Waterford was a quick day trip by train. Highly recommend the walking tour by Jack Burtchaell (meet at the Granville Hotel).

I have to admit that a little bit of the five stars I'm going to give Bridge View B&B is because I was somewhat of a rude guest, in that I arrived over an hour late after getting side tracked driving across Ireland then having my rental car locked in the parking deck across from Smithwick's Brewery (that one closes at 6PM - the 11PM one is up the street). Despite all of this, our hostess Eimear accommodated our tardiness and was very pleasant throughout the whole experience. That's reason enough to book this homey B&B, with the comfortable rooms and ideal location (along with metered parking nearby). The B&B sits right on the River Nore minutes away from a very convenient pedestrian bridge to downtown Kilkenny. The rooms are modest, with comfortable double beds and private bathrooms. The breakfast is delicious and made to order from the menu at the tables. Very much a mom and pop vibe, as Eimear made our breakfast (her husband is a musician we heard play at the Kyteler's Inn the night before - a small world indeed). The place is cash only, so be sure to have enough for your stay - if not, there are ATMs across the aforementioned pedestrian bridge. Overall, when I come back to Kilkenny I'm coming back to Bridge View B&B, and I promise this time not to be so late.

When we arrived on our first day the front desk staff were able to check us in early and even upgraded our room to a castle view which was an exciting surprise! Our room was comfortable although one thing to keep in mind is that the hotel does not have air conditioning in the hallways and rooms, although it was cool enough at night to keep our windows open and the rooms do come with a small fan. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was very nice and the pastries (especially the chocolate croissants!) were delicious and a wonderful way to start our days before exploring Kilkenny. The hotel does have complimentary parking, which was extremely useful. We parked our car at the hotel when we first arrived and didn't end up moving it until checking out two days later since everything was so walkable in the city. I would highly recommend staying at the River Court Hotel!

I got no email conformation so I called on the Thursday before we were due to arrive and was told all was ok with the rooms we booked. So we had traveled all the way to Kilkenny with my mother in law and had no where to stay... as it was the weekend of the All Ireland final all accommodation close to the City was booked. I suspect they got an offer of letting out the rooms for a longer period and decided it was worth bumping our one nights accommodation so they could make more money. Hope people find somewhere else to stay that has more ethical practices, so maybe they will also arrive to no room :(

There is a decent amount of adventure in the estate, which is massive and with a great scenic view; and yet at no point did i feel unsafe or that there was room for risk. we were a bunch of friends and a family with 2kids under 10 were taking part too. we all had the same amount of fun. Words of advice: your body temperature is going up amd down, be prepare for both. there were no tea/coffee facility when we came which is a real pity so you mihht bring ur own water.we ve been told june onwards is mad busy so booking well ahead is crucial. If you re only interested in the accommodation part of their activity, lets be honest, the houses are ugly unfinished looking things. didnt check the inside tho. i guess the amazing view and the remoteness, along with the river liffey and the sound of birds could make up for that but seriously they could have done a better job at the aesthetic of the houses. great place for fun time in families and friends.

First impressions are the properties are in a remote location well suited to people who want to get away from it. However, the Estate also doubles up as a team building/corporate centre so it can be far from quiet. We booked a week out of season (May 2008) for 5 adults and two infants in one of the 4 bedroom self-catering apartments. The booking was directly through the compehensive website. The standard of the property we stayed in was average - nothing special. It consisted of 3 bedrooms (one with ensuite) and bathroom on the ground floor and one bedroom on the first floor where the main lounge, dining and kitchen area was located in open plan format. The kitchen is not particularly well stocked with utensils, especially for a large family group, and it was difficult to obtain missing items from reception. Overall I would say the property was OK. For families with small children you should be aware that most days needed an hour in the car to get to the major attractions nearby e.g. the beach south of Wicklow, Glendalough, Powerscourt, etc. This also applies to provisions as there are no shops around the corner - a good 30 minute drive the nearest grocers so stock up or be prepared for a drive. However, it is a good base for day trips to Dublin. Drive to Dublin Zoo and jump on the City sightseeing bus - a good cheap option to get into Dublin avoiding the traffic. Overall, if you really want to get away from it all I would suggest looking for a cosier property that would feel comfortable in bad weather (which can be common in these parts). Unfortunately, this place did not do it for us but this is my opinion so others may love it.
