I absolutely loved this hotel and location! Staff was great, rooms were clean and spacious, lobby and breakfast area amazing! Location was across the street from a small store which we loved grabbing snacks etc. just down the street is the Royal Mile and lots of shopping and restaurants. The Castle was a short walk as well as the Black Abbey and St Mary's Cathedral. Short distance just past the Royal mile is another street and you'll find Kytlers as well. Love this town!! read more

The location is fantastic... that's about all that's fantastic. Parking is in a garage across the street with incredibly small spaces, so be prepared for door dings whether you are in your own vehicle or a rental. There's no dedicated loading/unloading area for luggage. There is a pull-off near the hotel main entrance but all kinds of cars seem to like hanging out there not just for loading, and no signs indicate they can't do that. Breakfast is not included. Shower supplies? No. Washcloth? No. Daily water? No. Fast wifi? No. Air conditioning is non-existent; they include a small oscillating fan even in the large rooms. There are no screens on the windows, so if you're trying to open them to get cool air, bugs come in. If bugs aren't coming in, then sounds are coming in, whether street sounds on the front side, and on the back side late night partiers coming through the alley, or dumpsters being emptied overnight. If it's not winter, I don't know how anyone could get a good sleep here. I loved Kilkenny, will probably be back, but will look for better hotel options. read more

My wife booked this hotel during our stay in Ireland. The photos are a scam, the staff were rude, and the room was a mess. The only good thing is the hotel is centrally located in town which makes it easy to get anywhere. Our room had stains on the carpet, a leaking bathroom faucet which I had to wrap a small hand towel around it so our personal items didn't get wet. The faucet itself was corroded and looked like it was falling apart. The shower was an old tub with a glass divider that moved. The tub is high off the floor which makes this a slip hazard for anyone getting out of the shower. The shower head was hanging away from the wall and was very outdated. One of the reading lights next to the bed was broken and was hanging with exposed wire. There was no AC but can't really complain about that since they made us aware of it during the booking process. They were nice enough to provide us with a fan. The outside of the hotel is nice and the lobby looks nice. Personally I think they spent their money on the appearance to give people the failed impression they are at an upscale hotel. We were only given one roll of toilet paper. When we ran out we contacted the front desk to have someone bring us some. The front desk clerk was not totally friendly on the phone. A few minutes had passed and still no toilet paper. My wife called back to ask again for toilet paper. The clerk told my wife we had to wait for the cleaning lady to come to work and they will have the cleaning lady bring us the toilet paper. Oh this was at four in the afternoon. So my wife and I left the room and I found a storage closet open. I went inside and grabbed my own toilet paper to bring back to our room. When we went downstairs I told the clerk who clearly needs a class in customer service we got our own toilet paper from the storage closet. My wife and I love Ireland and this is our second trip to Ireland. We will definitely never stay at this hotel again. Spend your money at a much better hotel where the staff believes in customer service and not Miss representation of the hotel or staff. Definitely do not recommend. read more

This hotel is a catfish. The hotel pictures online look amazing. The lobby in person looks amazing and beautiful. Going up to the actual rooms are horrendous. Picture frames on the wall halfway off, shower looks so outdated like from a horror movie, NO AIR CONDITIONING IN THE ROOMS AND WINDOWS THAT are locked so you can't even open them. Spots and stains on the carpet. Overall this place is so confusing. There was even a spa across the street that looks open that seems to be affiliated with the hotel but is completely shut down. Sink in the bathroom not draining properly/at all ( I accidentally dropped my soap bar in the sink that didn't drain) the dirty soap water splashed all over my face. read more

One day our room wasn't cleaned. Had to call for extra towels. The food in hotel would be okay; however, not a place I would seek out. People working there were friendly and hard working. Place centrally located and easy walk to town center. read more

Improvement Opportunities 1) Our group dinner for 40 seemed to overwhelm the restaurant serving staff. 2) The mechanicals in our room were challenging to say the least. 3) We couldn't find any temperature controls in the room and the shower controls were hard to figure out. 4) The shower was extremely narrow 5) You needed to keep a room key inserted into a wall slot to make the room lights operational 6) The elevators were extremely narrow and the floor buttons were in the center of the long wall and not by the door. This hotel is beautiful, well kept, and located in a spot that is near restaurants and attractions, but also quietly tucked away at the end of its tiny block. The rooms are very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff was polite, but also very kind of "hands off" by letting guests enjoy their own traveling companions. The tour group food menu was varied and the servings were filling and the food quality was very nice for a package deal meal. The breakfast buffet was varied and their coffee was delightful! The shower was the best hotel shower ever. It had two departs controls-labeled and explained-on for various levels of pressure and one for temperature by degree number. read more

The hotel itself is lovely but this review is for the bar/restaurant area. My husband and I sat down at the bar to have a cocktail after a long day of traveling. I asked the bartender if he could make me a dirty martini, he snapped at me and told me I wouldn't find that sort of thing in Ireland (we are from America), and that they didn't make martinis. He made me feel pretty awful for asking so I asked for a drink menu. Listed on the menu were several different kind of martinis, honestly it felt like he didn't like us because we were Americans. He was rocking a mullet with some great glasses but he was so RUDE It ruined our whole experience. He was called elsewhere to make drinks and we were greeted with a much more pleasant bartender. Unfortunately our night was ruined after that whole experience. But Americans beware of this place, I don't want you to leave feeling awful about asking for a drink! read more

The hotel is clean, and neat. Rooms are beautiful and clean. I had vegetable soup which was great. Please be aware that they stop serving food at 8:30. Night manager Ross Leonard was amazing. He check to see of the chefs had soup leftover. He brought me a bowl with a beautiful presentation. read more

Great location probably keeps the place busy. The room was very dirty and tired...(very worn) There were no remote controls in the room for either tv and it took them two calls and an hour to deliver one...? We booked a suite, expected and deserved better from them. I have stayed here in the past, not sure I will again. I hoping the remainder of my stay gets better... (I will update) Update: walked around our suite and found broken glass shards on the floor and coffee table and fingernail clippings on the floor. They are sending a manager to come check out the room. Also I gave them the benefit of the doubt about the tv control, they still haven't brought us one, I have now called a third time... Average, with a very good location. Parking is directly across the street from the lobby, and while it's a parking garage in Ireland, it's better than most. (FYI, if you are driving, the Ormonde St. entrance looks like a driveway or parking entrance from Lower New St.). The room is pretty average, decent size, adequate bathroom with good, if slightly inconsistent water pressure and temp. The beds are average, the TV was above average. However: the room does not have a room safe, and the wifi signal and performance was very poor. Service was conscientious and the rooms are kept in good shape, if a bit worn. Would probably come back, hut wasn't exactly a "memorable highlight" either. read more

This was such a lovely hotel to stay in. we were in Kilkenny for a birthday party and stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. it is central to the city but doesn't feel like it. its peaceful and comfortable and feels like its out in the country. we didn't eat but the bar is lovely and comfortable. rooms were spacious and spotless. special thanks to Sinead and Deborah on the desk who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly during our stay. an absolute asset and a credit to your hotel. we cant wait to return read more

Good hotel with nicely appointed rooms, and in a great location for enjoying everything in Kilkenny. It's not super luxurious but it's still nicely done. The windows aren't super thick so even though we were on a high floor, we could hear some (drunk) people having fun in the street. It's an easy walk to Kilkenny castle and everything else. This was probably one of the worst breakfasts we had in Ireland, but it was free with the room rate so it's hard to complain about that. It was the typical powdered eggs that hotels like to churn out en mass, and they weren't even warm. So if breakfast doesn't come with your room rate, you're probably better off going elsewhere to get a nice hot breakfast. read more

Updating: I left my iPad in the room and Catherine and Goainne (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly) went OUT OF THEIR WAY to help me get it back safely. Goainne drove way out of the city to drop it off at the DPD depot to have it sent via courier to me at a future hotel on my stay in Ireland. Yet another amazing example of the stellar and friendly customer service experience in Kilkenny. Thank you, ladies- you are rock stars!!! read more

The Ormonde is in a great location to walk through the heart of Kilkenny. It's close to great shopping and pubs. The hotel itself is above average with nice rooms and accommodating staff. The only issue I had with the place is the card key only worked when it wanted to. read more

Very nice hotel! It's in a great location that is very close to everything in the medieval mile of Kilkenny. It was a little tricky to find at first because it's down a narrow alley and you do have to park across the alley in a separate parking garage, but the location is perfect. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to see in the town. There's a great restaurant one door down as well. The room was charming. read more
