He believes his drink was spiked, as he only had part of one drink. Now he is being prosecuted for DUI even though he was the victim of drink spiking. My friend has never had a DUI in his life. Instead of going after unlawful drugging, prosecutors are harassing the victim and wasting tax dollars The hospital told us they knew he was a victim of drink spiking, which has seen a tremendous rise in occurrence in Indianapolis, according to the hospital counselor. He is also a cancer survivor who has serious lasting side effects from radiation treatment, which raises additional questions for us about the amount of alcohol the State alleges he consumed. We obtained the medical and EMS records, and what we found was deeply concerning. The officer reported signs including an odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and red eyes. However, the EMS documentation recorded his responses to questions and described his eyes as normal. We also saw my friend shortly after he arrived at the hospital, and we personally did not observe or smell signs of alcohol. When someone's livelihood and CDL are at stake, discrepancies like these should matter. Every person deserves to have ALL of the evidence carefully and fairly considered before their career and reputation are taken away. My daughter has been a prosecutor for many years, so I understand and respect the important role of law enforcement and prosecutors. But I also understand how important accuracy, fairness, and accountability are. No one should be judged on assumptions or one person's version of events when other evidence may tell a different story. I sincerely hope Indiana officials will look at the complete record, investigate the discrepancies, and make sure my friend receives a fair and impartial review of his case.

There have been several death investigations over the years attributed to suicide. Reports of physical abuse rarely get noticed. The mental health cell blocks are where I experienced the most inhumane treatment. Deputies and mental health staff can place a defendant on suicide watch whenever they feel he or she is a threat to themselves or others. This authority is often abused by the staff and defendants are placed on suicide watch frequently without just cause. The housing units used to hold those on suicide watch are the nastiest areas, with serious health-code violations. Defendants are placed in cells naked with a mat, special blanket, and smock to wear if they have to leave their cell. Feces, from who knows how many different defendants over however long period of time, is clearly visible on most of the surfaces in the majority of cells. Defendants are rarely given the opportunity to shower and when they do, they find the showers covered in the same fecal matter as described in the cells. Defendants are under 24 hour surveillance by a camera sitting on the second row of bars directly in front of cells. Deputies are also suppose to make rounds verifying the physical safety and well-being of defendants. Since the majority of those placed on suicide watch have documented mental health issues, the environment is loud and agitating. It is almost impossible to sleep with the constant yelling, banging, and shaking of the bars. If you did not have serious mental health issues before going to suicide watch, you most certainly did after a few days in this environment. Deputies often physically abuse defendants and have the authority to take away the mat, blanket, and smock. I was left in my cell with nothing but my naked body and a steel bed-frame for several days at a time. This only further caused my mental health state to deteriorate. There are so many more horrendous, gruesome details that I am not including in this review. I feel they deserve their proper attention in a court of law. Through it all I never once attempted to harm myself or anyone else, which was their justification for keeping me on suicide watch. I was fortunate in that regard knowing many other people who ,while being held at Marion County Jail, took their last breath.

Tough department for one of the lowest crime areas in the country. Pulled my son over on his way to school for simply getting confused when faced with a situation he hadn't encountered - instead of a warning, we have to get an attorney and go to court. The lieutenant who I spoke to came across triggered at the mention of a review being written. He also insinuated that if you are a buddy of an officer, they waive tickets. No doubt there are some decent officers at CPD, but not the ones involved with our situation. Beware parents, Carmel Police have nothing better to do than target teenagers.

They concluded after extensive research, and at great financial cost to the city, that the reason the population stays the same is because every time a woman gets pregnant a man leaves town, never to return. Okay, you got me, I just made that paragraph up, but it made you smile, right? Crime statistics of 2013 show that Shelbyville rated a 129.2 overall crime number, and the US average was 261.6, the lower the number the less crimes. By far the highest percentage of crimes were thefts. Which were about 5 times higher than all other crimes. Violent and major crimes were very low. Although illegal drugs remain an issue, as they do everywhere. The city police patrol an area of about 4 square miles and get about 16,000 calls per year. There are 45 police officers, plus the reserve units, office personal and 9 dispatchers. The current police Chief is Keith England and his Deputy Chief is Mark Weidner.
