This is your typical government building. It was very sterile, and serious, and quiet. No fun is to be had here. I checked in via the QR code on the sign when you first walk in. They do also have a touch-screen kiosk for checking in as well. The lobby was clean and the security guard stopped someone in the doorway who was attempting to enter with a beverage. When another patron began playing videos on their phone with the volume on high, I was disturbed by his inaction (this is one of my pet peeves). Their phone was extremely loud and there are signs posted stating that all ringers and such should be set to silent. They weren't even watching it either. They were speaking to each other in even louder voices, attempting to talk over their loud phone. I gave them the side-eye and then gave the security guard "the look", like dude, do your job! "The look" worked because he then announced that all phones should be on silent. Thank you for your service, kind sir. My number was called pretty quickly and the gentleman that assisted me was thorough, but also quick. I appreciated that. He congratulated me on my nuptials and handled my request for a new SS card in minutes. I commented at the end "Well, that was painless" to which he responded "Yeah, I don't usually start inflicting pain until after noon" See, you can have fun at the social security administration!

There's a kiosk to check-in. Plastic molded chairs to sit in and a security guard for safety.Visitors are called to the a service window based on the reason for their visit. Medicare, Retiree benefits, Disability benefits or a Payee Representative are a sampling of titles that could bring you to the door of government bureaucracy. The staff tries their best to accomplish tasks for visitors, they are pleasant, helpful, and informative.

While I've had my issues with Carmel, the truth is this is a city that does its landmarks well and that includes bridges. The Bur Oak Bridge spans 500 feet across the White River. It's 14-feet wide and is designed for both pedestrians and cyclists (or, in my case, wheelchairs). What's cool here? The Bur Oak Bridge connects Carmel and Fishers by also connecting Hazel Landing Park (Carmel) and Heritage Park (Fishers). It also serves as a connector for Monon, Nickel Plate, and Big 4 Trails. This thing is honestly beautiful to look at, constructed very nicely, and super friendly to users. The Bur Oak Bridge was reportedly named after input from Native American tribes and reflects the nearby presence of several bur oak trees. The bridge was an $11 million project. It was a collaborative effort between Clay Township, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation, Hamilton County, Delaware Township, and the City of Fishers. While I'd seen it a couple times before the recent snowy weather hit, I had the chance to stop by this week and check it out even in the snow (and people were still using it). The place is beautiful! And if that wasn't enough, the Fishers Art Council organizes a monthly art exhibit to fill the walls of the first and second floor lobbies. My friend and I wandered around the lobbies checking out this month's art work: a local artist had gone to Mexico to cover the Day of the Dead festivals. The artist had photographs, paintings, and drawings of what she saw and experienced. The facility was easy to get around with a grand staircase as well as elevators. This is a very small but nice memorial park located of the Central Green in front of Fisher's City…read moreHall. It was built in 2011 and is a memorial that features a monument dedicated to those who have served in the armed forces and is the home to our annual Memorial Ceremony. Around the base of the monument you will find the logos of all the uniformed services and Fisher's Police and Fire Departments. They each lead to one of the points on the six-point star that the monument sits on. There are benches in the area for visitors to sit and reflect. The monument itself has different sized granite slabs with stars on the and the tallest one having an eagle on top of it and the inscription, "Liberty Plaza, Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land, Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof." The monument sits in a functional fountain, which is laid upon the six point star. The city holds its annual Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies here. There is a decent amount of free parking on streets near the Plaza and there is a parking garage nearby. This place is very well maintained and nicely done. This is a good stop to make if you are in the area, but I would probably not make it a destination stop. So, to all the veterans and public servants out there, thank you for your service.

The courts of Delaware County have moved around quit a bit over the years to accommodate the 15th…read moreJudicial District's growing caseload. This new center opened in 2020 and houses clerks, five courtrooms and even a prison that can hold around 500 inmates. Prosecutors and the Sheriff's offices are also located in the sprawling campus. This complex is the sixth location to house the Delaware County Courts since 1829. I was told by a deputy, that the current building was originally a school that was converted to courts, rehab center and more. RQAW Corporation of Indianapolis designed the brick center. The location is quite different from most Indiana courthouses, which prominently stand on a square centrally located in a town. This 2020 Delaware structure sits a couple miles southeast of Muncie surrounded by cornfields. I did not go inside as it was raining and the building didn't fulfill my need as inspiring, historical architecture. In retrospect, I wish I had entered to seek historical provenance and engage with staff. There is parking in front of the facility.

I've been a homeowner here since 2003, and I have to say it's really grown on me. After growing up in Chicago (the city, not the 'burbs), living for several years in Minneapolis (ok, the 'burbs but I worked in the 'hood) and many other cities in between, at first I found Noblesville to be remote and boring. Over the past 9 years, the Indy Metro has expanded towards us, and the town itself has grown. Things I love about Noblesville: -- We have great movie theaters without having to make the trip to Carmel or Fishers. I don't know how Great Escapes survives since it's always empty, but I'm glad they're there ... hidden behind the Lowe's on 37. And if you want the huge screen and packed house, there's the Goodrich at HTC ... Watching Dark Knight on their IMAX screen during opening weekend was one of the most exciting experiences I've had in a movie theater to date. -- Old-fashioned Main Street/City Square with historic buildings, many locally-owned shops, restaurants and antique stores. In the summer, there's festivals, street dances, music and art fairs. On Saturday nights in good weather, car enthusiasts come out with their classic/exotic cars and it's fun to walk around and talk with folks ... just a great small-town vibe in the Square. By the way, those aren't birds circling around the old bell tower, they're bats ... cool! -- Farmer's market every Saturday May - October, and every year there's more locally-grown produce, butchered meats, and crafts. It's a great way to support local businesses, run into neighbors and try new things. Summer BBQ's aren't complete without Dad's Best sweet corn. -- Excellent public library with a huge collection of CD's, movies, and downloadable e-books. I think they still have some "retro" (real) books as well. -- Wonderful biking/walking trails connecting many neighborhoods to Morse Reservoir and Forest Park. -- Easy drive to Bonge's Tavern in Perkinsville ... mmmm Harger Duck and Sugar Cream Cake. Don't mind the tailgating, my own liquor is cheaper. -- Easy enough access to Indianapolis via US 31 or shooting down Binford, plus it's less than 3 hours to Chicago. We can easily get to downtown, Broad Ripple or wherever else we want to go without much fuss ... but still waiting on better traffic control for the stop lights, come on Indiana, other states have had this technology for a decade. Things I'd love to see: -- More access to public transportation, but this is an issue throughout the region. -- Better designed traffic control with lights that can respond to current traffic situations. -- At least one more good restaurant on Morse ... I don't mean to disrespect Wolfies but let's be honest, we go for the beer and the view, not the food. -- A really good Chinese restaurant ... delivery would be a huge bonus. -- A cool deli/smoked meat & cheese shop, along the lines of Smoking Goose/Goose the Market ... and please bring the cookies from H2O with you!
