Mini refrigerator was stocked with sodas that we mentioned we liked. We arrived around 3 and went to our room. About an hour later our picnic basket was ready. The sandwiches and cupcakes were DELICIOUS! The next morning our breakfast included a croissant with some kind of blueberry compote and cheese filling with crisp bacon. OMG! The homemade food at Charred Oakes is worth the stay. What a lovely time in a beautiful BnB with very gracious hosts.

We've stayed in several inns, airbnbs, etc and this by far was the worst. I contemplated booking a place elsewhere but they were all booked for the festival in lexington. This place is very dirty and ancient, not quant. Immediately you're hit in the face with several smells, some diffuser trying to overpower the bad smells. The inn keeper slept on the couch every time we walked in which was weird. The dog was cute. The minute we got into our room I smelled pee. My husband smelled cat litter but I think it was a combo of the pee and other gross scents mixed with their diffuser. I sniffed and found a pee scent on the bed, going through each layer of the sheets, smelling it but not seeing a stain. I told the inn keeper and she didn't believe me. She came up and said she didn't smell it. When I persisted, she went to the mattress layer and found a massive pee stain. Apparently an elderly couple who wore diapers stayed in there last. Since there were no extra rooms she suggested we took a mattress from a different room: but how if it was all full? Anyway she had me and my husband carry the pee mattress out and the new one in. Even after the change it still smelled so bad in the room. It was so dirty and I just felt disgusting sleeping here. They didn't even have hand soap, she said to use the face wash. Also, our door knob barely worked it was about to fall off. I poured myself wine in the room and the glasses were so musty smelling I couldn't even enjoy wine to try to get through the night. I could not have gotten out fast enough

Definitely needs a remodel/refresh and it appears that Pam needs help, other than just a cleaning crew. It needs pressuring washing, landscaping, tree trimming. I would give a 2.5 if that were an option. EXPERIENCE: The next morning, we go outside to walk to the main house/breakfast, and the dog, Sadie (a Golden Doodle I think), is barking in the parking lot. It was about 8:45 so I commented to my husband that I hoped no one was trying to sleep late (the doors are on the outside like a motel). So we go in to breakfast and sit in one of the booths. Sadie is right in the dining room pestering a single male guest. Then after we get seated, Sadie comes over to me and tries to get me to take her slobbery tennis ball and I don't so she drops it on my bench. There are a couple more couples and two older ladies. Pam is in the kitchen and she serves each couple/guest individually as they come in so it takes a little bit to get our food. I couldn't find any hot water to make tea so we just had to sit there until she came in; about 4-5 mintues. Sadie kept going from table to table begging for food. Now keep in mind that this dog is kind of tall and when she puts her paws on the table (yes she did), her head is at the same height as the guests. The single guy ate fast and left. The two older ladies were about to have a conniption. One young lady loved Sadie & took a selfie with her on her bench seat. When Pam came in to serve more food and then sat down to chat with everyone, the ladies tried to diplomatically point out that Sadie was jumping on the table trying to eat people's food and/or begging for food. She basically called Sadie "Rotten" and joked that she had spent $3,500 on training school to no avail and that she herself had lost the Alpha Dog fight because she gave in to "Rotten". Then something super weird happened: Sadie got in Pam's face (again she was seated but Sadie was at face height) growling. I could see from my bench seat and thought the dog was going to chew her face off! It scared me and I am not afraid of dogs, not even growling ones. But this was a snarling lunge, like something set her off. Then Pam made jokes, trying to fluff it off, and Sadie backed off. But not cool - what if she had bitten her? Or one of the guests? Again - I hate to write this, however it is important that folks know that this happens, particularly if you are not a dog nor animal lover. And even if you are, no one wants other peoples pets trying to beg food - not paying ones anyway. Then, of course, it makes you think about how much Sadie was in the kitchen while Pam cooked as the dog does have a crate but apparently not in it during dining time. Then the ladies left but then came right back and pointed out that Sadie was leaning on the kitchen counter eating everyone's leftovers and Pam just shrugged, like "what can I do?" The Good Points: 1)Pam is nice 2) our Cottage room was very clean/large & the porch area was cute looking out over the meadow (if she cut the greenery off the fence so that you could see from sitting in the chairs) and had tons of towels 3)the AC blew really strongly & cold 4)the sheets were soft 5)the bed was comfy except the light metal frame squeaked when you moved 6)liked the pork tenderloin with potatoes (cooked in the crockpot) and bread. We paid $345 per night which is pretty pricey considering the area (not the greatest) and the not new/fresh state of the Inn. Honestly, worth about $199 per night. In no way is it worth $345. It must have fetched that price due to leaf season and the Louisville convention with thousands of attendees. If you don't mind older furnishings/style, and don't mind eating with a large moody dog, then this place would work. Otherwise, I think I would pass. (I ran out of space so I couldn't post the whole review).

When looking for places to stay in the area, the large soaking tub is what sealed the deal for me and it was even more beautiful in person. Right in the middle of town you have your fair share of restaurants to walk to. The local people are super friendly so you can't go wrong with anywhere you go! You can also choose to stay in and lounge with a cocktail in the beautiful seating area of your suite. The fully stocked kitchen area isn't short on glass or cookware. The bed is comfortable and made for a good nights sleep. So whatever your pleasure, Trail Suites Inn is sure to satisfy!

Rooms are nicely appointed, although the bathrooms need an exhaust fan - got pretty steamy after a shower. Tall ceilings give the room a feeling of a lot of space. Super clean - its brand new. Bed was comfy - great night's sleep. Staff was helpful and the Cyprus and Oak next door is a solid choice for dinner. Limited on street parking, but on a lazy Sunday we did not have a problem finding space. Additional parking is behind the building.

**A Magical Stay in the Heart of Historic Frankfort**…read more Our recent stay at the St. Clair Hotel in Frankfort, Kentucky, was absolutely wonderful. From the fantastic food and welcoming staff at The Howser Tavern which is downstairs from the hotel to the beautifully designed hotel suite and historic surroundings, the entire experience exceeded our expectations. We arrived a little early, so we stopped at The Howser Tavern for a quick snack and some excellent drinks. The restaurant is fantastic, with kind, attentive waitstaff and genuinely great food - I mean **great food**. The pizza choices alone included pepperoni and hot honey, pesto, Margherita, BBQ chicken, Buffalo chicken, and the Howser Special with capicola, green pepper, red onion, and Kalamata olives. The menu also offered cheese and charcuterie boards, soups, chicken salad, and wonderful sandwiches such as capicola and pepper jack, prosciutto and smoked Gouda, and salami and cheddar. Add in a wide selection of professionally mixed drinks served by a cheerful, knowledgeable staff who were happy to answer questions, and The Howser Tavern is worth visiting even without a hotel stay, try an Old Fashioned or bourbon. One especially fun benefit of staying at the St. Clair was a complimentary drink in the speakeasy. What a cool concept - and such a treat for tired travelers! Checking in was easy. The St. Clair entrance is clearly marked and visible both from the street and from inside The Howser Travern. We had one quick question about the room's keyless lock (that was us, not them), but the managers at The Howser Tavern who support the hotel helped us in about 30 seconds. We were inside the room immediately, and it was very nice not having to keep track of a key card. There are stairs and a roomy elevator for ease of access to the rooms. The moment we entered the hotel suite, we were impressed. The St. Clair beautifully combines the character of a historic building with modern comfort and convenience. The exposed brick walls, architecture, upscale furnishings, and new appliances create exactly the right balance of history and luxury. Whoever designed this hotel apartment did a wonderful job. Our suite had two spacious, comfortable bedrooms - one with what appeared to be a queen-size bed and the other with a king-size bed. The bedrooms were separated by the bathroom, which helped keep each room quiet and private. The mattresses, pillows, and linens felt luxurious, and everything was exceptionally clean. The entire suite had that perfect fresh, clean hotel smell without being chemical or overpowering. The bathroom was modern and spotless, with a very nice shower, plenty of towels, and a soft bathmat. My photos do not do it justice because I neglected to turn on the bathroom lights before taking them! With the lights on, it was bright, attractive, and extremely clean. I had seen another review mentioning water escaping from the shower, but we experienced no such problem. We experienced a well stocked, clean, modern, good water pressure shower. Down the hall was a large living space with a huge television, a comfortable couch, and chairs. The full kitchen included a table, plates, glasses, cups, a full-size refrigerator, a Keurig with coffee and supplies, a sink with soap and a sponge, a dishwasher with detergent, a stove, and a microwave. Everything looked clean, modern, and new. Parking was also convenient. We found easy street parking, and there is also complimentary spaces available to hotel guests in the garage directly across the street. The hotel's location makes the experience even more special. It sits along a charming old-town street with architecture spanning the 1800s through today. Nearby is a wonderful vintage-looking theater (with movies and bands), an outstanding music shop that we loved so much we wished it were closer to home, interesting restaurants and stores, and numerous historic landmarks. The Old State Capitol is at the end of the block, and the surrounding area offers waterfront parks and paths, historic information signs, beautiful churches, and homes and buildings from several periods of American history (1700-1900s) We enjoyed seeing places such as the old courthouse, Garden Hall, the site of the Love House, Liberty Hall and its gardens, the Bibb-Burnley House, the Lafayette tour plaque, and many other historic sites. Our visit felt magical, and I would love to return someday when we have more time to explore Frankfort further - we did drive by the current capital building (and visited the overlook) which was all somewhat close by where we were staying. I highly recommend staying at the St. Clair Hotel in the historic district. It offers beautiful accommodations, excellent food and refreshments very close by, friendly service, entertainment, fascinating history, and wonderful shops - all within easy reach. Did I mention the close buy cake, coffee, and the ice cream shops. It was truly a fabulous stay.

Beautifully remodeled furniture store turned boutique hotel in downtown Frankfort. We stayed on the 4th floor in a king bedroom with kitchenette. Perfect room for weekend getaway. The tall ceilings made the room feel spacious but still cozy. Updated furnishings with modern decor. The bed was very comfortable! Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available in shower. The Howser tavern downstairs has a bar and provides room service to guests. The only thing that would be nice to see is maybe some vending machines in the lobby area. We wanted some late night snacks but didn't want to drive. Speaking of driving.... Parking was confusing until I googled and found an article that actually mentioned the parking garage being difficult for out-of-towners to find (thank goodness I wasn't the only one). The vehicle entrance to the parking garage is located down Catfish Alley. You can find designated spaces for St. Clair Hotel guests on level 3 of the garage. We definitely want to return for another stay at The St. Clair. Perfect stopping point on our way from Missouri to Pittsburgh.

Attractive decor, bourbon themed, a very nice bourbon bar! We went for an early dinner. Just my wife, a friend and me. There were a couple of other tables. Not at all busy. Our server was quick to greet us and met all expectations. Friendly, knowledgeable, etc. We started with cocktails. They've got a good selection and some mocktails. A bit pricey, IMO, which extended to the food. The food was good though. But I couldn't make it a regular visit as they price like fine-dining when it really isn't. We had a burger, a duck dish, and.... something else. Plus some deviled eggs. The duck was a bit too fatty and the portion plus side were more a small plate than an entree. Wife and friend enjoyed their meals. I'd go back for a gathering but wouldn't choose it when looking for a local night out. I don't live in Frankfort so that'd be unlikely anyway. Give it a try, it's a good place, but overvalued. The bar looks like a nice place for a drink but $$.

She LOVED it. She said it was the right mix of rich, but not too heavy. I enjoyed a ham and egg croissant, which sounds so simple, but done so well. The ham was thinly sliced and really delicious and fresh tasting. Plus, their croissant were gorgeous and beautifully layered and baked! A delicious high quality brown deli added such a nice flavor and pulled everything together. I'm talking Jewish deli worthy mustard. To top it all of, I tried a bell pepper paloma that we both couldn't stop gushing over it. It was so refreshing, works very well as a palate cleanser, and has a genuine vegetal flavor. Our server was lovely. The ambiance felt artistic, welcoming, and cared for. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming though town.
